i would agree on the fact that p-platers carnt drive GTRs, but what about gtst's ?

you know its not always the young drives who have accidents.

eg: brissy crash with the 30+year old male who was wraped his skyline around a tree/pole ? (no-disrespect)

their should be some sort of law on p-platers. maby take them all through a extream driving course and if you pass then you can buy your high powered car ?

i know what you mean dude ive droven a gtr for 7,000km's :) . not much but allot for most gtr's in not even half a year of ownership.

i've done 35,000k's in 9 months in mine. :D

My GTR will hit 110+ in 2nd gear.

Cameron - I know what you are saying, I have lost 1 point in my years of driving and have never had an accident, but that being said, i wouldn't have minded some sort of car restriction (probably because i couldn't afford much more than my VC commodore!:) ) for the first few years.

Christian

not having a go at any of use but lets say that use were 18 and you had the money to buy a gtr but their were laws on it that you weret aloud intill you were on your opens.

whould you be saying fair anough or would you be gettings quite anoyed ?

This thread is really good :D glad it happened and not one was hurt.

Cameron, the sad truth is that despite how desirable the GTR/skyline is to an 18 year old, the majority of those that own them on p plates etc lack the experience and ability to get themselves out of trouble if a situation arises. The power limits would exist as a safety measure - you cant really gripe about that.

That still didnt answer my question. hehe

i meant that if you were still 18 or how ever old and wanted a skyline but their was laws that say you were aloud intill you had your open licence ? what would you do at this point ? :)

Don't take this the wrong way but perhaps you should buy your next car without your folks help. That way you treat it like king. I know I treat mine like king. It's easy to take things for granted when it's given to you. And the next time you get the urge to do something silly, you will remember this incident and also that it's your money it's going to be paying for the damages.

Think about the possabilites and the consequences before you act. This is what's lacking in younger drivers. Last thing you want is to take out some innocent by stander or passanger. You don't want to live with that on your mind for the rest of your life. Think about how your death will affect the people around you. I don't mean in here since it seems that there are people who are upset at you, but more so your folks. You don't want to see them morn over your death now?

PS. A blast around the track is ten times more fun than anywhere on the road. Period! :)

I recon p platers should all have to drive 800cc 3 cyclinder cars from taiwan. hahaha

Hey that's a bit unfair....

I'm on my greens (19) and have an R32 GTS-t which is my pride and joy.... (ie i don't go thrashing it around)... yes i give it a good squirt everynow and then (as we all do!) but i don't think just cause i'm young i should be banned from having a nice car...

I appreciate my car for what it is. (A SKYLINE!)

I appreciate the look, the feel and yes, the power...

but that doesn't mean i abuse it....

Maybee an exam to drive cars over a certain limit... or set exams for set limits (and even pre-requisits eg driver training etc...)

but not total banning....

Just my 2c... Don't label us all the same because of a few unappreciative d***heads...

Agree

well said :)

This is a good thread for its backs and forwards and different perspectives. Also seems to be gradually migrating into interestingly "under 25" vs "over 25", which is ironic in a way. I remember when I was on my p's i was like many of the attitudes expressed "i am a good driver, i can drive a fast car if i want to".. but now it seems those who are older DO realise that experience does help, and everybody having their near misses over the years realises that sometimes having more power on tap never helps the situations.

i meant that if you were still 18 or how ever old and wanted a skyline but their was laws that say you were aloud intill you had your open licence ? what would you do at this point ?

I would be pissed off about it, bitch and winge.. but in the end wouldn't have a choice now would I?, and that would be the end of it. I'd just have to wait until I reached that magical age or whatever. Patience sometimes breeds responsibility, in more ways than just the obvious.

Little difference, and everybody knows you can almost double the power of a gts-t without spending too much..

If they are doing that, there should be a blanket ban "No p plater is allowed to drive these cars: x, x,x, x, x, x". Its not hard to enforce at all, you drive a powerful car and the cops catch you, you get fined. I mean unofficially its been that way for years in Victoria, it just has gradually "reverted" in this era of turbo charged cars. I remember when i first started driving, there were cars that i could simply *not* register and drive.. such a 308 commodore, 250 Cortina. I mean they're nothing now, but back then they were what a fast skyline is today and desireable. Lots of people wanted them, but not many could afford them, or wanted to get pulled over.

It was a known fact, and not many people got around, people just did without. I mean, f*ck is it THAT hard to drive a slower car for 3 years?? does a p-plater HAVE to have a really fast car for the first few years of driving? i mean think of the money you save for a start! You need *something* to look forward to after drving for a few years.. i think its a worthy goal to try and encourage drivers to remain accident (and to an extend penalty) free

I don't know why the restrictions have been relaxed, but they clearly have.

Experience is great, but i still believe its the attitude that counts.

And when ppl refer to driving ed and defensive driving course (Defensive comes before Advanced Driving Courses) they focus more on attitude with only part of the day spend behind the wheel.

Has anyone had a scare when driving normally??? Now that wakes you up to how things that can change in an instant!

Hell yeah, exactly what happened to me, 50 in a 60 zone round a long corner in the wet, back end out over oil and water and onto the grass. hello tree. No one is safe.

    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
