I have the whole service manual if that's what u were after? Let me know what section (s) and I'll upload it. I tried to buy a consult iv reader from China but ended up being messed about for ages and was then told it wouldn't work. Who knows if that was true

My Chinese Consult III unit works for diagnostics, but only the more expensive and latest ones work apparently. If anyone is interested I will do a group buy as the price comes down as you buy more units.

Does any one know if our Stagea's are J1850 PWM or J1850 VPW protocol???

I successfully connected with my android phone using J1850VPW and got RPM reading (using a cheapo ELM327 bluetooth adapter) but I was under the impression that our ECU's were PWM (pulse width modulation). I did not test any further after RPM feedback so it might be that while I connected under VPW I might have limited sensor readings.

I am getting to the point of frustration that I am maybe going to look into writing my own android app. But having time with work and personal life could be the limiting factor for me.

Our car ECU's are OBDII compliant (at least at the physical level) however there are at least 5 different protocols of OBDII and they can have different initialisation and handshake commands.

I am just trying to source any and all info on our car ECU to scope out the level of difficulty of writing my own app.

Bringing this topic up. I'm looking for info to get access to whatever data I can with an OBD2 standard socket.

Looked into latest versions of Torque app but apparently this ecu hasn't been taken care of yet.

Found some nissan consult projects on github written in python, will give it a go.

From what I could see on forums, the M35 has an OBD2 port but uses Consult 2(/3?) or is it an other physical port in the car with a Consult socket ?

Hopefully I can get one of those python libraries to read the data and make a nice GUI for my tablet :)

Not sure but from what I could see, only the VQ25 is special (how lucky...) and chances are that it will work with standard ODB2 protocols for the VQ35 (could be wrong).

The HKS OB-LINK is still worth $2xx so I will try to get something on my own ^^

I just need to figure out how the HKS plug is wired to actually connect to the ECU, after that, it's just a matter of interpreting the data that comes from it (probably similar to what Consult libraries do if it is really a consult interface with an OBD2 shape).

Best chance is to run some tests and try out different pins until I get a prompt from my console.

Is that strictly for the VQ25 or does it apply to the Vq35 too? It was hard to get anything definitive from the above thread but I gather the Vq35 works ok with the run of the mil scan products?

VQ35 is fine with all the usual options.

My Consult 3 from aliexpress works well....well it works well after I changed the usb cable from a chinese to HP one. The Chinese USB cable had it disconnecting every 5 min.

Enables minor timing adjustment amongst other useful programming and logging functions

    • I hope it's actually possible. This is a write off in insurance world.
    • Yup. 2-way with shallow ramp angles. Still works.
    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain. 
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
