Cant Edit Posts

Recommended Posts

ull find a lot more people care than the ones making an effort to complain, but personally for me its just too much hassle to PM mods about it for every single edit, instead (in the classifieds for example) i just create another thread with the first post updated with the correct details.

You shouldn't need to edit a post.

Clearly I do and so do lots of other people. You just outlined a way to give users access to be able to edit their posts that sounds very easy to me, why can't you do it? Surely it is more effort to reply to a PM and edit someone's post than to just add them to a list?

I really do not understand why you can't do this. If it is so much bloody effort give me access to do it, I'd happily sit here for an hour adding everyone who has complained in this thread with posts > 200 on the list.

It can be easily done, but you refuse on the basis that 'You shouldn't need to edit a post'. Even though 100s of reasons have been given in this thread and it obviously is a massive disadvantage to power users on this forum. I don't get it, you seem to get some sort of enjoyment out of this, much like when people on the forums are proved wrong.

Mate look - i've told you quite clearly it wont happen, that is that. If you dont like it or can't accept it, go elsewhere.

It is not as simple as you think, i use the Admin panel everyday, manually, forget it.

Even to do it via DB update would take ages due to user names and display names differing and various other issues that it has with group numbering on the backend DB.

Hey guys.. i need something sorted that is relevent to this thread.

I PM'd Ash regarding the matter but had no reply back

Can a mod or an Admin pretty please, with sugar on top delete my ancient thread which more than two years old in the For Sale section as they contain my contact phone which i don't them to be displayed.

Hi Ash,

Can you possibly delete my past few threads that date back to 2008 in the For Sale section please?

It holds my mob number and i really don't want it to be displayed there.

Cheers

I know it's a lot to go through but as you can see they're couple years old now and serve no purpose.

Or perhaps can you guys sort out function, or a link to get these old threads deleted by Admins to make it easy for both members and admins?

Cheers, thanking you in advance

did you try using the 'report' function and ask what you wanted to do there.? thats what the mods have said to use and i did it a couple weeks ago and it was taken care of (which is good because back when the edit function was first removed, reported posts were often never acted upon)

What about becoming a paying member? Does that give you the ability to edit? From what I can gather it doesn't.

If I'm right, why doesn't it?

This is hte only forum I've even chatted on that has removed the ability to edit posts and I have to say, it sucks the bag.

yup

So none of the money paid out by club members goes to maintaining the forum?

Being a member is not donating.

Club & Forum = separate.

The clubs have their own private area's to exist here, and SAU does not ask for any money from the clubs to do this.

afaik, not directly as membership money funds the clubs themselves (which sounds like an expensive exercise in itself). but i assume that if christian were to ask any of the clubs for a little bit none would refuse.

Nope.

President hat - I know Vic has given Christian a donation over the years and will again, i assume other clubs do this as well if they wish to.

Admin hat - However SAU does not require the clubs to donate, we are self sufficient for the most part (where we can) and put all the clubs up for nothing as goodwill to the community that has given birth to the clubs.

SAU Website/Forums & State Chapters = separate business enities. They are not linked financially.

No thread in Sale areas is removed so that other users can see your selling/purchase history.

What about phone numbers etc? I only want my number up there while an item is for sale....not up there for the world to see forever.

Can i just contact mods to edit the number out when item is sold?

Why not just do as aus300zx does and not allow ph # to be displayed publicly in sale threads, leave it to be sent out via pm or email only?

That way if there are any dramas regarding prank calls etc it can be traced back by the OP as to who he has sent numbers to etc. Not fool proof I know, but just a thought.

WOW this new thing where i cannot edit my Ad, or cannot add a reply is really crap.... Before the sale section was alive and kicking, lots going on, now its dead...

I have added 4 replys now to my post, waiting for them to be checked and added, after 4 days, only one reply got added, trying to add more pictures and change of price.. but no, it wont let me, and the "moderators" wont add my new info.

If things are gonna be checked, thats fine, but can they be checked quickly and then added!?

    • Yep, back in the day when you could pick up a Stagea RB25 NEO for $1,500 it was worth it. These days... just chuck your V8 or B58 in.
    • from my limited BMW experience: - they burn oil WTF (B48 FTW 170kW engine) - dump oil every 5,000km and you'll be ok.. until it drops a bearing and rebuild time. replace engine with B58
    • I would avoid the AWD motor in a RWD using a modified RWD sump and pickup. The way the pick up is positioned, you'll have oil pick up issues on hard acceleration on a track around bends. Even with a baffled, gated sump. I suppose if you don't race on a track and it's used for straight line activities or street use you might be ok.
    • They absolutely are, but the thing is, if you're only exposed to these circuits for a while, what I normally think is good driving suddenly isn't so much. I was a pussy at the Nurburgring (GP) entering corners at 180kph - the difference in the balance of the car suddenly becomes so much more pronounced and I'm still a bit regarded at left-foot braking - something I now practice on my commute. So the (dream) plan with the E90 is to make it a 325i Cup car. Whether I get there or not is another matter. In my mind the simplicity of having the NA variant and cost made it a bit more appealing. Plus, like mentioned above, I'm actually too much of a pussy for big power. Of course I f**ked up by not researching enough on the N53 vs N52, the latter being more robust without the DI system.  Suspension-wise on the BMW, and I've been reading the technical requirements for the 325i cup, basically everything except struts has to be standard - bushes are free. I figure you get about 5-10mm adjustment with the rear camber bolts which should translate to 0.5- 1.5 degrees of adjustment. So with coilovers, lowered at 30/40mm I expect I can dial out some of the camber from a drop and attain -1.5 to -2. If necessary, I could get the same effect as the M3 arms with some offset bushes. There is a limitation on ARB width to qualify, although I absolutely want to get either M3 ARBs (can't say sway incase I upset GTSBoy) or the H&R ones - both of these are the cheapest options. Like mentioned, M3 arms are on the way and I should have them fitted within the next week. How are the BC Racing coilovers btw? Reviews are mixed but I think for me they would be fine; a friend of mine uses them on his R34 for track driving and has nothing bad to say. I'm looking at these or the ST coilovers (German brand, new to me) as prescriped the in Cup spec sheet. They're both similarly priced and offer camber adjustment. It's fine but it really upsets my OCD. I've got a couple of options for dialing out the rear camber and keeping my ill-fitting wheels: raise the rear a little bit, say 5mm, that should permit -2.5 camber or drop the front to restore that slight bias of more negative camber up front (not optimal with the roads here). The next alignment won't be until at least next year and I really need to rebuild the rear subframe. For now, I'm not using it at all on the streets except occasional blasts through the German countryside. I was covering about 10k kms p/year in Japan, I expect this to now be about 3-4k. You could say buy better sized wheels, and yes, I should have. But the wheels came from the Z and price of good wheels is just insane now. Again, a couple of options: get a new set (I want 17" RPF1s) or buy two used 9.5J TEs, both are about the same price excluding shipping.
