Wow... I've been considering upgrading to the 7163 based on some of the info found online.

But as it now may even be more responsive in variable twin scroll, it looks like I'll be waiting for some results of this new turbo.

This isn't really new technology, as it's very similar in concept to a quick spool valve...

But being incorporated into the housing it should be an improvement on the quick spool valve due to less turbulence in the exhaust flow.

Hopefully it's released soon so we can see some data.

Hi Geoff,

I definitely prefer the single over the double so most likely will get the 8374/0.92 IWG. Like the simplicity.

1 question Geoff, do you do a downpipe for that turbo to go to a standard position Cat ( r33 gtr) obviously using your manifold.

Do all my own installations at home but not so good at making downpipes. that would be cool if that is possible.

Hi Mike, yes its no problem to supply the downpipe for our single turbo RB setups. we have a dedicated GTR front cut specifically for test fits and mockups like this. email me directly [email protected] and I can help get this sorted for you

Can you provide a v-band EFR turbo already modded to T3? Which in your opinion is a better replacement for the HKS GT-RS, the 6758 or the 7163? I don't want a less responsive turbo, but the 6758 doesn't look like that much more power than the GT-RS.

Hi Ryno, yes we can convert the vband EFR turbo to a T3 inlet. This is a special order only but we can do it. here is a photo:

Hi Geoff, Have you had any results with the EFR 9174 hybrids? i've read the spool performance is only 50-100rpm down on a 8374 but your compressor efficiency moves up the revs a fair bit.

hi, the EFR9174 is an interesting turbo. BorgWarner has just released this 9174 combination for 2016 and is the only large B2 Frame EFR with the lightweight alloy bearing housing. It spools very well (similar to 8374) and has great topend (close to 9180). It is also capable of 125k rpm shaft speed (whereas 9180 is only 116k rpm). We have these in stock now, very good turbocharger when the engine can gobble up the airflow. I am planning to put this on my RB26 next

word on the street is that borg warner have started making these turbos with investment cast housings again

correct, been that way about 14 months now

The A/R selected for these initial prototypes was a direct match to the existing housings - for the B1 frame 7163 it is 0.80 a/r and for the B2 frame it is 0.92 a/r. This housing design is very much in it's infancy of the development process. Based on a combination of testing and other competing technologies it's unlikely to hit the streets anytime soon. Beyond that - actually fitting this turbo to any engine is serious work. Completely new manifold and downpipe design required from any other existing turbo or any other EFR

the 6258 twins with 0.64 a/r and a stiff actuator are not far off from stock spool and can make >800hp

No doubt the twin 6258 spools well for an 800 hp set up, but if youre comparing it to the dog shit 100% stock car that is lazy below 4k rpm its sort of unfair.

An rb26 that has stock turbos can build 5psi no prob at 2k rpm when basic mods are done. Mine would toot around in 5th grear with 255/35/18's at 60kph. 6258 are atleast 100hp each more and with runners that are not optimal for low power/rpm/boost tootleing around. No way would it have factory type drivability which is of concern for most who like in a major metro city in australia which does not have the open type roads America has.

So what kind of EGT are you guys getting on your EFRs?

Trying to find out what would be acceptable in the long run.

But so far no "precise" values to be found?

Reason I'm asking is, my PTP turbo blanket is pretty much done after only ~5000km (may be ~100km on track/hard driving).

Where is that taken from, Geoff?

A sensor in the collector?

That'd be logical, max heat is max you want into the turbo, so thats measuring it as close as the turbo inlet as possible. Not sure how much the temp would drop through the runners, but i doubt it'd be much so perhaps wouldn't matter much where you measured it?

nitto RB32/26 currently running -5's on E85. Making 580hp, full boost under 4.3k or something.

Would love to be making 750hp whilst maintaining a similar level of response if possible. More than happy to make the switch to single if need be.

Noctis - when a tall RB30 block is used, I suggest twin EFR6758 (or twin EFR7163 depending on fuel and boost target). The twin EFR setups are not for everyone - there is more piping/lines/two turbos ... twin EFRs fit better than a large single in these cars - and for a responsive 750hp there is nothing that can touch this. We make the downpipes and charge pipe so this is a bolton affair to replace the existing -5s

    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here  
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
