Q: Formula One innovations of the past - ground effect, active suspension, turbocharging, six wheels, the list goes on. If you could bring back one past innovation, what would it be and why?

MW: 1300 horsepower. Big engines and big noise. That is what fans relate to Formula One.

Q: What innovations would you like to see in the future?

MW: Bring back refuelling. It is better to drive cars that are lighter.

Has anybody got a letter from the Australian GP Corp. about 2012 tickets?

I just mine and the prices have been jacked up slightly, but their four corners deals are still really good. Plus they're throwing in some invites to see the new Senna film at the end of next month.

Its first in best dressed with these kinds of things so ill be jumping on this before teh end of the week. Anybody else keen?

What would Webzy know about 1300hp GP cars? He's never driven one

All he was doing was answering a question about what he would like back, not what they were like. He like the rest of us would have watched them race.

8 Litres was probably a bit optimistic.

Let's says 3.0 charged or 6.0 atmospheric.

still way too much in my eyes. more like 2.5 charged and 4.0 NA would be closer. maybe even 2L/3.5L or even as low as 1.8L for the charged cars 3.5 NA. still think 6L NA is way too big for an F1 engine.

if it's possible I now love webber even more. he's the thinking mans F1 driver! I reckon he'd do alright in a 1300hp F1 with no TC. he has a lot more experience in hard to drive cars than many of the younger kids like vetsmell.

I believe he was referring to the experience of watching them rather than the dynamics of driving them. Regardless I'd say he's much more qualified to give his opinion than most of us.

What are the dates? I am massively keen to get down there this year before all the races are moved to the sphincter of the universe.

The four corners packages are the shiz-nit

they start at $390 and go to $440.

The one that is (i think) $430 is what ill be doing next year i reckon. I can put up a scan of the brochure if you're keen

As far as im aware bernie hasnt released the 2012 calander. But it stands to reason that it'll be the last weekend of march

Engine rule changes delayed until 2014

Formula One's role players have reached a compromise, for the time being at least, over the introduction of the new 'green' engines.

The sport was due to switch from the current 2.4-litre V8s to the more fuel-efficient 1.6 litre four-cylinder turbo engines in 2013, but the move has now been delayed by a year after the changes caused division amongst the manufacturers.

While the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes, Cosworth and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone were opposed to the new 1.6 litre engines, Renault threatened to walk away from the sport if the lawmakers didn't implement the changes.

However, the stakeholders accepted at Wednesday's F1 Commission meeting in London that the best way forward is to only implement the new rules in 2014.

BBC Sport adds that in addition to postponing the introduction of the new regulations, F1 bosses also agreed that 'the new engine formula will be for six-cylinder engines rather than the four-cylinder units' while the 'new engines will remain single-turbo units, with much more extensive use of energy recovery than exists with the 'Kers' units this year'.

The rule changes are expected to be confirmed via fax vote by the World Motor Sport Council on Monday.

turbo six's im totally cool with, hopefully they up the the size to 2000cc.

A 1.6ltr engine is a bit soft. My missus 'rolla out-displaces an F1 car? bit sad

.... shiiiiiit

If you gave F1 teams 5 litres to play with, there wouldnt be anybody with internal organs robust enough to acctually drive the thing around

Im pretty happy with the turbo six idea, the sound of the cars coming off boost should be pretty sexy

Hopefully it brings back the 'engine wars' from the 90's. I really miss that now with the engine freeze

Scan would be good. A mate wants to come but it is dependent which weekend due to custody of his kids being alternate weekends. Hopefully it is the last weekend including Sunday 1 April.

In the turbo era, Most of the cars were 6 cylinders anyway, only one or two engine manufacturers ran 4 cylinders.

I think it is a good move.

1.6 litres is too small though.

anything between 2 and 3 litre 6 cylinder turbo and I will shut my complaining mouth.

However the FIA will find some way of keeping them slow.

    • So....to find any R chassis part number, get your VIN (will be something like ER33-xxxxxx for you) and go to: https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan and enter it. From there you have access to a web version of Nissan's part system, FAST. It is a bit tricky to get used to, so maybe have a shot and post up what you think.  You can also search by general model but note in some cases your car might have different options so VIN is safest.  On diagram 211 I got 14075-75T16 for Connector, Water Hose If I search for part 14053‑21U10 that you posted, that is also a water hose but not the one bolted to the plenum and 14075‑04U00 is the fitting where the water hose goes into the block.
    • Yeah now we are talking I much prefer coolers in the front middle because it lessens the chance of a small bump to a corner stopping the whole event. I was thinking the AT cooler can move out of the radiator, delete the AT/engine coolant interwarmer and mount a separate cooler with a thermoswitch somewhere further back as is common in racing, that would be one thing. Beyond that, the engine oil cooler is an obvious one to move to the wheel arch, potentially one on each side, but unused space is an issue. I did have a earlier pic with the bumper off but it doesn't show how busy the corners are: DS is full of the auto driving sensors and PS is totally fully of windscreen washer fluid reservoir But ultimately I was hoping to keep the AC, and the water/air heat exchanger is fundamental so it is not just the radiator that needs to be in front BTW here's airflow to the rad as it ran at the track (one horn is gone now and I'll remove the lights next time):
    • your right the maps for Australia came out in 2017 but are 2010 maps. i got the updated maps SD card put it in and it was the same. Same maps in my Brothers Nissan Patrol. 2020 i think his car is
    • Yeahhhh, the costs have killed me. Spent more than the cost of an engine rebuild and it most mostly servicing and a tune lol.
