A thought just popped into my head...

makes me laugh a little

3 years ago anyone conpemplating a MHI/Trust turbo wouldve have been hunted down and shot and told that a GT30 or GT-RS is the only way to go for an RB25.....now we have people droooling over a cheap EBAY copy of an MHI turbo

only the puppets... been a trust / blitz apexi guy from way back... it only takes a few trips to real jap shops to see the creme de la creme.

Every drift car in aus with a genuine l2 on it came one way or another from me as did the rx6 kits.

now there is cheaper options it all makes perfect sense but 3 years back when we were using the ebay gear direct we copped alot of flack... many dealers got the shits as we were selling the turbos for less (1100 back then) and making less margin than the garrett equivs but got the results.

With me its never about the money (profit)... its about the result. Cats turbo was 2500 alone but its what i wanted and it gave the results.

so i was looking up different ways to mount an ext gate and across this method.. how interesting for those who used to run IWG versions but dont want to block it off simply take out the flap and do this.. oh and before you say anything this is working on a 500hp Volvo S60R

That would work but I think its inferior to the way ARTZ has his done.

His is the creme de la creme of factory position EWG IMHO

there is a difference between working and optimum and thats far from optimium, we tested that with the kando and it was still down on power compared to swapping out the rear housing for a proper ex gate item.

Your probably not wrong, I wont go there for now. Hate 'he said she said's', especially on the net lol. V8s did end up going E85 though, but with the guaranteed content CSR shit.

I have heard reports that eflex is fairly consistent at the e70 mark.. But I just cant get past the fact its a varying content fuel. Like I said in the HG thread, I fully believe in it as long as its used with a content sensor.

Once it properly rolls out in NSW and is available everywhere I will honestly be buying a flex capable ecu and getting it tuned on that :)

I just did a huge test (2nd round of independant tests) on a 420rwkw gtr (autronic eflex setup) last weekend and can tell you now that all the brands ended up with a big fat DRAW.

testing showed united and caltex to be on par and about 4kw down when at e70 compared to e85 on a safe normal customer tune so you wont notice any difference, yes the af changes between e85 and e70 as we all know but it is manageable and the 4kw difference shows the amount of change.

Tuned hard beyond the "normal" customer tune we found the 3 types of fuel to be on par and we got to the same peak power give or take 3-4rwkw which is probably more heat related than fuel related.

Graphs attached are the final 20psi results with -5's on bp98 and e85 and with the old garret supplied preloaded gates... which needed to be RE TENSIONED... bastards.

Oh gawd that is horrid..why do people think they can merge a WG in 10 inches from the turbine at that angle and expect it to perform well..

At the very least merge into a larger diameter pipe

You are running an autronic eflex setup as mentioned so the ECU is obviously compensating for the difference. As stated prior I honestly dont have an issue with that and would happily run it myself (its just an expensive outlay when there are only 2 servos near me that sell the stuff, and both are 20k from home).

What I really want to clarify is the untuned and uncompensated difference between E70 and E85. I would like to see the result of a car tuned for E85 and then switched to E70, without compensation to the tune. IE tune a car with a Nistune to E85 and then fill it up with E70 and see what happens.

The reason I think stating only a 4kw difference is inconclusive is because Im not concerned about the potential of the fuel vs the motor. As I am confident you can extract more than what most setups can give on E70 making E85 redundant.. But that doesnt indicate anything to the mixtures and the resultant safety margin.

If you could comment on that scenario that would be great.

i wonder if all tuners would keep to the same margins. my biggest concern liesin a car tuned on e70 and tunedto its ragged edge, then filling up on e85.

We are going to plumb it in, screamer doesnt do it for me..

it will plumb in just before the cat on a very slight angle, 3' and 2' Into 3.5'...i will run it on the dyno to see how much is lost doing it..

Not exactly as the drum e85 ie sucrogen is a higher octane

Had another fail tonight with the internal 20g. Customer has modified the gate and the dump pipe but still boosting up to 22psi. After inspecting though the wastegate arm isnt moving freely. It seems as though the bush has failed when he has heated up and welded the internal gate etc.

So i gave him my old ebay 38mm gate to weld on and try.

Retune on monday or so.

Hoping but cant promise i can tune the drifter tomorrow during the holidays. If my boss lady lets me

    • Must have been an absolute nightmare to drive when the power steer was out, the rack ratio/wheel size/caster is all set up for power assistance

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA

There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way.
