i actually thought it was my external BOV causing the richness........ maybe ill plumb it back and see if it still occurrs.

maybe its programmed for overrun for big burble with big exhaust sounds :P

Lol, I wish it worked like that. With the amount of unburnt fuel coming out the back, I was surprised there wasn't 2 feet of flames. No such luck however.

Did anyone with an intake notice that they ran particularly rich when backing off? Before the e-manage tune of course.

I've tuned mine so the AFR's are good at light to medium loads (runs really nice actually), but when I lift off after accelerating, the AFR's start to go lean (as they should when coasting) but then go full rich (10:1 on my display) for a few seconds which causes a heap of smoke out the back.

I can post pics of log graphs if it will help, but it really just displays what I said (I hope  ). I'm thinking of returning the intake to stock to confirm the problem goes away and then get some graphs to compare with the new ones, but that will require some work...

As an aside, I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but it appears to me that the standard ECU has another map that it refers to after a certain rate of acceleration (or throttle application) occurs. I found this out because my AFRs remained essentially unchanged at the top end regardless of what I did to the AFM signal at those load points. It is like it ignores the AFM signal & does it's own thing.

Where have you plumbed in the BOV, it sounds like you haven't merged it into the intake properly...

I made a new intake to throttle today, to try and fit the electronic throttle (without the butterfly in it). The cable throttle has been working flawlessly but the cams still arent working, even with the gutted electronic one still plugged in. >_<

The turbosmart BOV needs a much stiffer spring too, I had it venting and it leaked badly, I removed the hose and it still leaked on boost. Blanking the hole caused the hoses to pop off, ruining the under-bonnet sound deadener.

The Fcon has a miss which im not happy about, probably caused by the emanage being in the circuit still. That and the cams not coming on make it feel very laggy, it feels dead down low until I get above 4k, looks like the Emanage is the better option at the moment. I may end up going with the PS2000 soon if this goes nowhere.

pheeeeew

saved me some $$ there...

so u can't get it to work on its own correctly?

Craig fitted the new bushes to the front end tonight and it is a massive improvement.

I have been getting this vague wobble in the front end recently and by replacing this bushes this has improved the feel in the front end dramatically.

best mod ever hey?

The throttle wouldnt work with the short time I had to tune it so I just fitted the old cable throttle until I could work it out. Runs fine just that the stock ecu is in limp so the cams wont advance. Theres no way I could live with a laggy pos like this, the cams allow around 30kw of midrange right where you need it.

Its a completely different feeling having full control of the engine and throttle, for a change.

I finally got my idling issue sorted about 2 weeks ago!

Yesterday (Tuesday) I got the pink slip done, then took it for a wash. :D Today it rained... :( F'king typical! I really should get a rear wing, the rest of the car stays clean when it's wet, but the air must recirculate from the tailgate and keep all the dust in that area.

it makes me wonder if that guy in NZ actually got it working.

I think if he did he'd be talking about it instead of disappearing. He did mention the shop in one if his threads so someone should call the shop and ask...

nah i think he got a "HKS Rep" to do it, RIPS were doing all of his Fab work.

Lol! Stupidious Giganticus!

Must say I feel a bit stupid for defending him, he still gets on here, last active; Aug 01 2011 01:15 PM

Install must've been a raging success :whistling:

He was very active here for a while, wasn't he. People are funny tho. I've got no problem trying stuff & reporting back that it didn't work. That's how we all learn & what makes this forum better than 99% of them out there.

I checked the OE pipe & the angle it enters appears to be less than mine (first pic, far side). All the original hoses were left as they were, with just an extension bend added to turn it in the right direction.

Do you think that's the issue? Any suggestions on how to improve that part of the design?

Thanks, Leon.

Sounds like you need to just fit a MoTeC and be done with it?

    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
