just a suggestion i had a strange whinning noise that i thought was the turbo lacking oil on startup would last a little while and then go away. it was like a nasty queeling noise and eventually i traced it down to the belts on the front of the motor needed some dry lube, WD40 done jack sh*t but helped me find it as its not easy to get ur hand past the clutch fan to lube it up.

dont know if this helps but anythings worth a shot!!!

Thanks for the suggestion mate, I know exactly the noise you're talking about Theo; but this is definitely appears boost related.

Basically as soon as it goes positive manifold pressure; the whine starts. It overlays the normal whine that the turbo has.

Sounds like the t3 exhaust gasket, I have had a few like that. Could be the front wheel rubbing though.

Need a replacement stock turbo? It could be a better option if you don't want to highflow...

Hmm, I don't think it's a leak; I'm going to get it on the hoist and stall it up, we should definitely be able to see/hear a leak if there is one.

Frankly, I'd be happy to stay with the stocker; but who's to say how long a second hand one will last? Are you talking about the one you were running on yours in between setups?

Feel free to PM me if you have time mate; it might be a viable option.

I don't mind Lainy, I like talking to other people. With the car at my house I should be able to get parts shipped quickly, not taking 2 or 3 months like 'other' members. :P

lol.

Yeah that Lainy guy is a bit of a member... :whistling:

i got stranded today the damn battery in the key/remote went flat............ unlocked the car with the key and the alarm went off and then tryed to start it but the alarm wouldnt stop so couldn't go anywhere untill i got a new battery in the remote. very convenient when i was at the dog park, luckily a mate lived close by and we ran up to the shops and got a new one.

so for anyone needing a battery the part number is CR3020.

Hmm, I think I asked that Lainy bloke for a part to be measured ages ago, just after he got his hands on the wreck, actually. Still waiting for a reply...

Bloody Skoda drivers!

Oh yeah, I got my clutch replaced on Friday - out with the supposedly heavy duty Exedy, in with a Nismo twin-plate. Getting used to a new clutch and re-acquainting myself with driving a manual at the same time, after roughly 5 weeks of rolling around in only autos.

Saw your pics Nick; you must've been pissed to find whatever that thing was, that was masquerading as a Heavy Duty Clutch!

I'm assuming that was a workshop job? Good to see you've got what you paid for this time.

How are you finding the Nismo clutch? I was going to go for the coppermix single plate when i did my manual conversion, ended up being a bit too expensive at the time though.

Nah, I bought the last clutch myself, Dale, and had Unigroup install it.

Sourced the Nismo myself again, but Unigroup were flat-chat and I wanted my car back, so I got another local mechanic to do it, about 2mins drive and in the same suburb as Unigroup. We deal with them a lot, so I know they do good work too.

Oh, and here's the supposed "heavy duty" Exedy job - less than a year in the car:

It's butter-soft, Brian. Loving it so far! And no, it wasn't cheap, but they do come with a matching lightened flywheel which kind of makes up some of the cost.

    • First time visitor and currently getting ready to start work on my HK Premier.  Its all stock, 186 with 3 on the tree.  The only mod i have right now is extractors.  I am hoping to get some guidance on slightly modifying the engine to bring a little more power. Just going for a nice, comfortable cruiser.  The car is very straight, however i have been out of the country for 20 years and its been gathering dust at a family farm.  Will be doing quite a bit of body work to cut out some small rust areas (frnt quarter panels and a few other small bits) and fix up the paint.  Will be redoing the interior (its currently black and the seats are in real need of recovering and respringing the driver side (its front bench seat).  The dash needs a little TLC, but no real damage.  As my heater has degraded I am considering fitting something after-market that will be both heater/AC (recommendations here are always welcome). Wanting something discrete that will allow me to use the same controls and not be obvious once inside the car.   For the engine, i have been told i could consider upgrading my cam (imagine i would need a new head as well) and putting a new carby (currently the original stromberg).  However not sure what is going to be the best route.  Would certainly welcome any comments/suggestions.  As  a final step I am looking at changing the wheels. Current hubcaps are in dire need of refurbishment or replacement (imagine its a bit like hens teeth).  Thinking of some clean/classic looking mags (7-inch should be more than enough - not going for a large change in look).  Welcome any comments/advice and of course any questions.
    • I got the ARC M079 due to the space constraint.  Been running mint for the last 3 years.  Plazmaman also seems like a really solid choice but not used myself.    Hunt around for a better price but this is what I have - https://www.rhdjapan.com/arc-brazing-intercooler-smic-m079-bnr32.html
    • Wanted to follow up on this. Did you end up getting the M073? Still deciding on what to get between nismo m073-79 and plazaman.
    • I was just watching these boys up in QLD AWD'ing their S13 too.
