I wish at 21 I could afford a GTR or R8 maloo. Rich daddy or hello debt. whistling.gif

drive both.. make your choice..

/thread

^^

You're asking a Skyline forum. Most people are going to tell you the R34 GTR.

If you want my opinion go the GTR, sorry but it's in a different league in so many ways even to the R8 Maloo.

The maloo looks like an uglier version of the already ugly SS.

The GTR is just sex on wheels.

But as above, you shouldn't care what we prefer. Drive both, decide for yourself. I wouldn't buy a $50k+ car that someone else thought was good.

As for which one will beat the other stock (sounds like a school holidays question tbh); In what way? Straight line, track work? Drift?

Quite a different option in car there..

What do you want it for?

What one do you like?

Why are you only picking between those two?

I really don't understand the purpose of these threads that are always created on here.

"Hey guys, I want to buy a new vehicle but I wont tell you what purpose I need it for. What do you think is better, a Mazda 6 or a Toyota Hilux or a YZF-R1? These are the only choices I have made but I won't tell you why."

Very hard decision for that one , both really nice cars ! I would think what u really want from the car , then test drive both & make the decision ! Eg GTR is going to handle alot better , have better traction & carry more people . The Maloo stock will have heaps more power , carry bigger objects in the tray & can handle a little towing if need be . I think at the end of the day also is what are u going to do with the car , leave it stock with maybe the mild mod or go all out crazy & mod the hell out of it. If leaving it stock i would choose the Maloo , but if mods are in i would choose the GTR :worship: Both are Great performance cars , but so completely different cars

who fucking cares what he want's it for unless it's a work ute or a tow car.... which is all any holden has ever been usefull for

sorry to any bogans lurking, but commodores are overpriced, under engineered, low quality, slow peices of shit. there has never been a single decent one and there probably never will.

can go fast in a striaght line when modified yes... but lets face it, drag racing is for homo's

They both weigh about the same (~1500kg). 34gtr's make about 230awkw's, the holden "makes" 317Kw, but i've no idea what rwKw they make, but i'd presume it'd be less.

Ute might be a little faster in a straight line, but i'd get the GTR anyway. (well actually if it were me i'd buy a '32 gtr and pump the rest of my money into modifications)

The kind of person serious about buying either of these cars doesn't base their decision on what forum goers say...they go and test drive the friggen things. Very school holidays!

Hamish my man, the Aussie cars aren't really overpriced. Even if a second hand R34 GTR represents better value (depending what you want the car for), it didn't sell for 60k brand new like the Maloo did. If they did then I would agree that the Holden is overpriced and underengineered for what it is. But Holden and HSV have to work to some shitty constraints...and considering how small the Aussie new car market is, compared to say Japan, they do a pretty friggen good job of it IMO. Alot of Aussie cars are now sitting on the world stage in both performance and luxury compared to international offerings of similar money, and we're exporting more cars to more countries than ever.

The Maloo actually weighs as much as a Clubsport, which is about 1775kg - quite a lot. You're right about the R34 GTR being about 1560kg.

I agree, completely different cars, but I guess he just wants a nice fast toy around $50K. The answer is always the same though; drive them both and pick whichever you prefer.

I agree with Birds as well; Aussie Ford/FPV/Holden/HSV products are considerably better than most people give them credit for.

As with all other "VS" threads - closed.

Each car is different, performs different and will even give different results in different drivers hands.

Its upto you to look at what you want, specs/use and make your own decision.

"VS" threads are largely pointless, perhaps try reading Motor Mag if you want to find some sort of "rank"

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
