At the end of the day you do get a shitload of car when you buy a Commodore/Falcon and no one can deny that. To get the same amount from a Jap/Euro car you pay double the amount. Yes the quality may not be as good, however you have a shitload of money saved in your back pocket.

I'm not a huge fan of most Commodores and Falcons as I'm not a big sedan lover(love the Monaro though), but I can understand why they are popular and they definetely fill a perfect position in the car market that most people can afford.

Perhaps you need to get out more then

Or maybe they breed them different in your part of the world.

Plenty of wankers on the streets around here. The highest percentage seems to be either V8 utes or imports / evorexes. The v8 utes tend to be the ones weaving through traffic on the M1 to get ahead of everyone else, and the imports tend to be the ones wrapped around street signs and fences near roundabouts every time it rains. Funny how there's a pattern there.

Besides, just as import owners whinge about being labelled hoons becasue of a small minority, don't you think it unfair to label falcadore owners the same because of some brainless bogans? It goes both ways, regardless of how biased you might be.

^zactly, this is what I talk about in the wasteland when I say this forum is full of hypocrites who call all Commodore and Falcon drivers bogans and then wonder why some dickhead in a Commodore or Falcon does a shout out to them. Both stables are as bad as each other.

Import enthusiasts chase acceptance just as much. Even as a minority they are still part of their own culture. Look at all the threads that get posted on here asking for advice on how to get "flush wheel fitment", which by all rights should be a subjective thing, but instead you have an owner who doesn't even know what they want...they just want what everyone else has done and says looks good. TE37s aren't that cool, and no one wants to spend $3000 on a set of wheels, but they're the done thing. I bet you half the owners don't even like the style.

Man i've seen dropkicks on the roads from every different car enthusiast community... imports, commodores you name it.

OP, just buy what you like and deal with others having opposing views.

Falcodores are a good "cheap power" car, easy to extract power from like most imports.

So I see the appeal & I might buy a V8 later on...

& in my eyes the current & past few generations looks 1/2 decent enough.

Most people complains about their interior (all plastic bits & pieces) but I don't really care about that.

I have no idea why someone would pay good money for a brand new Falcon/Commodore, but 2nd hand, that's a no-brainer.

They're dirt cheap and no problem to insure. 3rd party property damage, fire and theft insurance and she's ready to roll for around $150 annually.

Immobilisers from factory, spare parts from Autobarn, lazy torque for the city and good highway economy.

Excellent aircon and moderate glass areas so you're not cooking while you drive.

The worn out stub axle/front end days have gone so they sit reasonably well on the road at highway speeds.

Brakes are fine for normal driving conditions, most are autos and perfect for city traffic.

Towing will rip their arse out but who cares, they leak like seives from factory.

You can drive passed the revenue collectors in a dunnydoor and not get a 2nd glance, same can't be said for an import. Expect to get a thorough going-over and if he doesn't like you, off to the pits for some added inconvenience.

Anyway that's why we've got an everyday dunnydoor.

So stupid really, when it's pissing down and I'm shitting myself on slippery roads, I think of the GTR that's made for those conditions, sitting under tarps in the shed.

in my early 20's I had a VT LS1 6 speed for 3 years, back in the day it made 213rwkw

was cheap to insure, looked stock, and did a decent skid and i event took it to the track a few times, some motorkhana's - it was really fun!

back then I was more the V8 >. person.

with doing track days in it, I did a few with a few members on here, sold the V8 and bought a skyline.

however to go quicker again at the track I sold the r33 and bought the mx5.

each car has their good and bad points - and each group of cars has the usual bad owners who give the rest of us a bad name.

eitherway - any car thats RWD with some mods will be fun - you just need to give it a go

They perform terribly compared to other cars on the market, and whilst the upper models are somewhat luxurious, I would not call them prestigious. They're hardly unique, which is what many enthusiasts desire. Quite the opposite, most people who don't care for cars couldn't tell you the difference between a high model and a base model.

Can someone please enlighten me? Cheers.

The good thing about them is they have small increases you can do from factory. You might buy the Ford Berlina for $20k and for an extra 2k you can get leather seats. For an extra 5k you can get another badge and red or blue backlights on your dash and bucket seats. However at the end of the day, the still are a Falcon or a Commodore, regardless of whether you paid $140k for a limited release one which is slow anyway.

How many people do you know that aren't into cars can tell you the difference between a R32 and an R33 without looking at a picture? To the majority, Skylines are just Skylines, whether you have a GTS, GTST or GTR, they're all the same. Some make tu tu sounds and some don't.

Like the other guys have said, they are practical, you can throw a towball on the back, pick your angry single mother and her friend up from the city at 2am and all those other fun things that come along with owning a sedan.

If you know anyone who owns one, get in a worked Xr6 turbo and tell me you don't want one.

+1 for a boosted XR6 turbo

For a stupid quick roadcar that you can drive from Sydney to Townsville in one day and still be able to hit the piss that night, well, the things are awsome.

The new Commie V8s are allright too from my experience, OK on fuel but need alot more work than the Ford 6 to make simular reliable power.

If I could convince the missus to get rid of her Alfa I would get her a new SS Commie Wagon, but alas, she likes the POS Alfa........

im hanging to get a hsv, but they arent really another falcodoor based on what i read here since they are 300+killerwasps look dope and do 0-100 in a touch over 5seconds oh and not to mention does it in comfort all day every day stops on a dime yadda yadda ya can tbeat it for the price you'd be talking M range from ya euro's to match the luxury AND performance which means your talking at least 50k more.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
