vesh
I have just purchased a R33 GTR and wanting to do a suspension upgrade. The car has 345kw at all wheels and it will be tracked. I have been told by some to steer away from Teins, Cuscos, etc etc and get my self a good strut and spring combo?? I have been looking at the Tein Mono Flex, any opinions? I am also looking at getting new sway bars for the front and rear, are the Whiteline adjustable items any good? Will replacing the front and rear sways be a step back or forward in regards to handling? I know that some cars perform better with only the rear upgraded Bushes will also be replaced as the ones in the car still look to be the factory ones. Adjustable caster rods are also on the cards but not sure which ones to get? All help is appreciated, cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355800-r33-gtr-suspension/ Share on other sites
vesh
Just came across something else, my car has Hicas and after searching have found that it is best to remove it. What options do I have in doing this? What brands/models are you guys using in eliminating it?? Beer Baron
tein mono-flex is a good choice. they will be fine. as for swaybars if you like upgrade the rear first and see how you like it. if you find it too oversteery then by all means upgrade the front too. the whiteline bars are ok, just don't always fit 100% and are very heavy solid spring steel. the cusco ones are pretty good, light, but not adjustable. ARC even better but $$$$$. castor rods go straight for cusco. good quality 3 piece rods ends with good silicone boot to protect it, easy to adjust. hicas is pretty easy to remove on a 33 GTR. there is heaps of info throughout the forum. levinboy
just a generic lock bar would work for removing hicas. currently i have on my 33GTR cusco zero2 coilovers with nismo swaybars front and rear IMO pretty good combo very predictable handling heaps of feedback Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355800-r33-gtr-suspension/#findComment-5696641 Share on other sites
blind_elk
What's wrong with Bilstein shocks? Why does everyone recommend Japanese shocks with super high valve rates, and that are designed for super-smooth Japanese roads? vesh
What's wrong with Bilstein shocks? Why does everyone recommend Japanese shocks with super high valve rates, and that are designed for super-smooth Japanese roads? Are you talking about the Bilstein PSS9's? The car is not a daily driven car and will be raced on the track . . . I am deciding out of the Greddy Performance Dampner Type S or Tein Mono Flex. Any suggestions?? Duncan
I run the base model, non adjustable bilsteins on mine and it gets around OK. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355800-r33-gtr-suspension/#findComment-5698244 Share on other sites
gr8whiterb26
Have you had a look at Aragosta coilovers? They're mega expensive though, here they are in my cousins V-Spec Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355800-r33-gtr-suspension/#findComment-5699188 Share on other sites
djr81
I run the base model, non adjustable bilsteins on mine and it gets around OK. I run the same. They are good value & work well. I have no idea why people fixate on adjustable shocks when so very few have any idea what to adjust. And that is before you factor in their lack of repeatability, linearity and their generally poorer damping performance compared with a cheaper non adjustable shock. I recently considered buying some high end adjustables. But it all fell apart when the vendor utered the following phrase: "We dont provide graphs for them." OK, so how do I have any clue as to what effect adjusting the shocks has on the damper characteristic???? Whoneedstherapy
I've got Ohlins in my 33 GTR couple with nismo swaybars and i am very happy with the way it rides and puts the power down. I'm not sure of the exact part number but they have external oil resevoirs and i have to say, it's one of the most composed GTR's i've ever been in. I can't imagine they would be too cheap though. blind_elk
The car is not a daily driven car and will be raced on the track . Bilstein built the shocks for the R32 Nissan Group A race cars. Can't be too bad a shock. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355800-r33-gtr-suspension/#findComment-5699640 Share on other sites
rehab2010
Have you had a look at Aragosta coilovers? They're mega expensive though, here they are in my cousins V-Spec They are mega expensive - but also probably hard as a rock - I think the ones pictured have springs rate of 15kg/mm - great for some smooth tracks... maybe, but on our roads - forget it. GTR-N1
...onto my 4th GT-R > "S-Tune" sourced 2nd hand F & R from an SAUer for $750 > best I've had so far & completely happy on all surfaces and speeds Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355800-r33-gtr-suspension/#findComment-6308005 Share on other sites
Mick_o
I believe the blitz units are just BC coilovers + more $$$ My old man has just installed a set of BC coilovers in his 33 GTR and from the factory setup i can tell you it feels HEAPS better he got the 6 & 8kg spring rates and they feel quite good on shitty western sydney roads (not too harsh) and in the tight stuff it feels like a completely different car. Yet to see their reliability but certainly at this stage they seem like a great value for money setup Has anyone had any experience with Blitz Damper ZZ-R?? KiwiRS4T
Read the Shockabsorber 101 at the top of the page. I have non adjustable Bilsteins in my car which I track regularly. There are better shocks if you have an unlimited budget. Don't be in a hurry - go to some race meetings that feature Skylines and see what the faster cars are using. For HiCas removal try Google - there are many options. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355800-r33-gtr-suspension/#findComment-6310199 Share on other sites
