hmm i have some camber on mine not sure how much, not much but a portion of the tyre is not in contact with the road, after driving on dirt you can see this. Kinda sucks, might have to pump the guards for zero camber get full contact.

295 on a 10 +38 with nearly 3 deg camber slightly pokes, for those wondering :D

Nice! Only problem is proper Semis will be a lot wider from what i can tell... 275 street tyres fit with plenty of space but a 265 in a semi is nearly contacting both sides as its much wider... That and -3 degrees wouldnt help much with traction so it kind of defeats the purpose of going to a wider tyre ;)

Mat, how much camber are you running?

In the front... Fk all! As i havent fit the camber arms yet, hence why the front tyres were nice and toasty on the outer edges on the left side at Wakie and cold in the inside.

On the rear, i think its back to rough -1.5 or somewhere near it as i had the track day to do. I had them down to -0.5 at one stage.

Love this car Matt, looks so basic and then it cracks gate haha

Thanks mate! Its a lot of fun...

Can't really say it looks so basic now with the cage back in

Safety first ;)

The stock look was a bit of fun for a while

  • 1 month later...

So i havent really done any updates in a while, basically because not much has happened... Since Wakie the car was unused and just sitting around... With all the talk of trackday prep i thought i best do some myself... SO i charged the battery... Prep complete :P

I went into the SMSP South day knowing the left side tyres were pretty banged up on the outer edge and also the alignment took a fair hit at Wakie when i had the offroad excursion, i drove it down the street and it was left hand down and pulling left... With SMSP Sth being a short track and just a fun day i wasnt to stressed and just ran it as is.

The one thing i took from this track day was that SAU NSW are a fkn top bunch of blokes! It had to be one of the best track days yet in terms of having fun.

The wheels just have black plastidip on them to cover the crazy gutterrash from Wakie... It looked pretty messy so as a temporary measure i coated them with the black. Of course we had to do the white writing on the tyres to match -

This pic actually shows some of the tyre damage on the outer edge...

With the lack of camber in the front it was just melting that damaged section...

Here is what the wheels looked like after a quick coat of plastidip...

What's with the headlight?

Headlights looks maad! The left one is open for intake yes?

Loving the car man!

Yeah one of the eyelids on my proper set of headlights got broken and looks really bad so i figured i would take them out and do the lense restore and replace the eyelids... The black set is just a set of empty shells of a GTR and was mainly for something different :P

I purchased one of those cheap rubber strips off ebay and put it on the bar... Now wish i had done it a LONG time ago as it makes the crappy looking stock bar look heaps better...

Looking awesome!

Its certainly not nice and clean like it was many years ago, but i still love it :D Everytime i get out of it these days it with a grin ear to ear...

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
