Hey guys,

Bad news from CAMS;

Bathurst 2nd Circuit – The feasibility study has been released and it is a positive report overall and does build a picture of the need for another circuit in NSW. Unfortunately the cost quoted in the study ($47m for the 2nd International level circuit and $57m for ancillary facilities) has seen the state government back away from any commitment.

Ringwood – The sale of MGCC Newcastle land has gone through. The new owner/developer has had preliminary discussions with Council about a proposal for a race circuit.

Lucas Heights – Process is moving slowly as a CAMS club works with the land owners to gain access to the land. The club is looking at a Motorkhana/Khanacross facility.

Nowra – As of January 2011, Shoalhaven Council voted to establish a committee to undertake a feasibility study on developing a motor sport facility. CAMS have been in contact with the Committee and have offered to assist with the study.

ECIR

The Chairman, Mr N Turner reported that at the recent V8 Testing day at Eastern Creek over 14,000 people attended and an announcement was made on the development of Eastern Creek.

$9m development ($7m from State Government, and $2m from ARDC) and will be spent on building an additional 1.8km circuit and associated infrastructure. The circuit will have four different configurations, with two configurations being able to be used at the same time. This is a major boost for motor sport events in the Sydney basin.

Great news if you're into Hillclimbs though;

 Cooma Council has donated $30,000 to develop a Hillclimb in the area.

 Proposed Hillclimb in Gunnedah with the Gunnedah council on board.

 Ron Hay was elected as Secretary, Alan Barlow elected as Website Editor, Barry Thew elected as Treasurer and Greg Sticker was elected as deputy chairman of the 2011 NSW Hillclimb Panel.

So HUGE WELL DONE to Gunnedah and Cooma Councils for actually doing something about motorsport without waiting for the State Government to do something about it (as we know, they wont).

Feel free to discuss, any points/comments I can take to the relevant people at CAMS or the sub groups for the relevant area (tracks or hillclimbs) :)

Bad news , but Bathurst doesn't need another circuilt. Put the money towrds Ringwood instead....:D ...my opinion maybe a bit bias on that particular issue.

Would prefer it at Lucas Heights. There's ample ground around there for the track.

Amusingly enough, you get more radiation spending a day in Westfield Parramatta than you would at a motorkhana day <1km from the reactor. I'm not sure on exact figures, but the actual workers at Lucas Heights don't get much more radiation than people in large (concrete) shopping centres either...

^^^now that's a rant.

Besides my preference for ringwood, I do believe the track should be somewhere outside of Sydney. Somewhere that isn't in close proximity to an already established track that is open to the public.

I thought bathurst 2nd track was too much - however I really wish they would start EC and hope Ringwood becomes a track.

they have wakie south, EC Sydney. Bathurst west - need something north IMO

good to hear that the new state govt are withdrawing support for the taxpayer 500 at homebush. that is the worst thing that has happened in NSW motor racing since bathurst council killed Gnoo Blass.

but to claim that giving the ARDC a blank cheque to create 2 substandard tracks out of one boring one is a "major boost for motorsport" is a very creative interpretation.

What we need is another permanent track within reach of Sydney. simple. and get people out on it, and keep it off the streets. It took the drag guys 20 years to get WSID....I hope the circuit community have the same perseverance.

This makes me wish newcastle airport did not have a raaf base, it would be perfect for a race track/ skid pan/ dune buggy track.:nyaanyaa:

the whole of stockton dunes is a dunny buggy track..sortoff...if you dont mind been limited to 40kph

LOL, THE SKY IS FALLING, the radiation at Lucas Heights is the last thing you need to worry about, your phone does more damage, also where do you think the medical radio active stuff is made, cancer treatment, X Ray stuff.

End rant.

Newcastle would be good for a full sized track but Lucas Heights would be perfect for a driver training come skid pan area, I think it would get a huge amount of people who don't want to drive for hours (Marulan) or wait for a event at E/C.

Also I don't know what area they want to use but there is some good areas around there that you could make a nice hill climb section, bring it on I say, I'll go.

I walked right around the old 50's model reactor they had there, was 1m from the core. I didn't die. And now that they have a new and even safer reactor, I think i'd still not die. Hell, if you fell into the coolant pool of the new reactor, you still wouldn't die!

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
