Yeedogga
What an awesome day- as a track day virgin this was a real experience! Thanks to the organisers for such a great day! Having experinced drivers on hand to give tips was really worthwhile as well. Apart from some fuel pump fuse woes, i had an absolute blast! The car was heaps better than i thought it would be too :-) See y'all at the next track day!! jebud
That rain made the time on the track more enjoyable... I have a new appreciation of a 20yr old 4WD / 4WS system. Bodella
Thanks to Adam, Eric and Duncan for letting me ride along. I was hoping you'd scare me off track days, instead You helped convince me to take the Stag out as soon as I can. Next time.... Duncan
Thanks very much to Matt and the rest of the team for organising this day, it was a small group and average weather, but the venue is great and everyone got plenty of good track time. For those that haven't been there before (or still haven't ), this is a shortish, tight track which is brilliant fun. It has everything - tight corners, blind corners, great camber and elevation changes, and a lovely arse-puckering downhill section where commitment really pays off. It is a great track and easy on the car (other than brakes) due to the short sessions and shortish straights. The only real downside is some run-offs are tight (right Eric?....haha who I am kidding....my off was HGE!!!!), so take it easy and you will really enjoy the place. It was great to see so many new faces, and I bet you all learned heaps about how your car handles, and what you can get it to do as a driver. In particular I went out in about 6-8 cars during the day, and i hope the feedback was useful to everyone. Finally, we had a great reception from the guys at MDTC; at the start, during the day and even afterwards. In a world where new tracks and venues are hard to find and very expensive, MDTC shines as a place where you can still enjoy beginner's motorsport.....big thumps up to thos guys. At only $115 or the day, I reckon most people spent more on tyres/brakes/fuel than they did on entry. A++, will try again Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374765-saunsw-mdtc-wrap-up-thread/#findComment-5977484 Share on other sites
benm
First time ive been to mdtc, looks like quite a fun little track with great facilities. Would have been great if they had built a viewing platform up above the main office/canteen. The lack of run-off area does look abit dangerous. That wrx found 1 of the spots that has a 1m drop off right on the edge of the track and it looks like on the majority of corners if you move even 1m off the track you're facing an embankment which for a driver training facility does have me a little baffled. Brought my helmet and license but wasnt going to risk the ute in the wet. How often could sau book mdtc? (harder or easier than wakefield?) Duncan
Anyone want to buy a used R34 GTR?One owner (at the moment) good car, shoots flames. Lots of flamesFML sooo....did you make it back OK? (big thanks for Bunsen Scott for tailing you home ) Any verdict yet? Big thanks to Matt and Duncan! (but somehow i now need to get an electric rattle gun... and i blame you Duncan . Was a great day. My brakes seemed to work fine despite the sparks... The rain just made it "different" not "worse". lol sorry. but that's how i bought mine too....I borrowed someone else's Let us know if you work out what was happening with the brakes...the track is slow and hard on brakes so maybe they were just hot, but it really seems like you have some sort of sticky piston somewhere? or maybe a bad wheel bearing? That rain made the time on the track more enjoyable... I have a new appreciation of a 20yr old 4WD / 4WS system. Thanks for a good day guys, and the oppotunity to show it to that damn rex. Great driving Adam, you were keeping a bunch of quicker cars honest out there. Thanks to Adam, Eric and Duncan for letting me ride along. Duncan
Yeah Ben, it is much easier to book than Wakie....less than half the price and available with 2 months notice instead of 2 years.....we will be back there for sure. I don't think the run offs are a HGE issue with the low average speed (except in a bloody 450kw Z....), and I'm sure they will work on them over time. Lee....were in the WRX?....if so, find out what's wrong in the back of that car! I don't think I've looked through the front windscreen of another car on a race track so many times on the same day before Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374765-saunsw-mdtc-wrap-up-thread/#findComment-5977596 Share on other sites
Tps
Yep Rex repairs high on the list for the next week! but the rear view mirror was playing up.. Only way to see who was behind was to turn it round ! Note to self dry setup in wet no good ! Harrys lap timer worked well Adam pulled between 50 to 52 when I was in with him ! Look forward to using it more Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374765-saunsw-mdtc-wrap-up-thread/#findComment-5977659 Share on other sites

In the areas there is very little, your car doesn't want to point in that direction if you do lose it, and due to the low speeds (I believe max speed I heard on the day was 130KM/H. Eric can confirm what he was getting down the straight in the GTR). If you do lose it, you don't get that far off the track (Unless you're Duncan and do it with WOT in 3rd with 400RWKW being let loose... And even then, it wasn't a big off) The track is awesome as Duncan said. And we will be booking it again. We had 3 cars who had issues with noises, and they all ended up being allowed to run, as the MDTC staff will help you to quieten it down, in quite a smart way. In regards to booking again, we can basically pick a date that is more then 6 to 8 weeks away, and we can nearly be guaranteed to get it. Pezhead
My car was maxing out at 120KM/H and the 350 clocked in at 126. I can attest it took a good few sessions for me to "sort out" myself and I did have a number of offs in those first few sessions. There was adequate runoff in those areas. So yes there are some caution areas but if you keep a level head you shouldn't get yourself into too much problem. I'm headed out there tomorrow again and hope that it is a dry day. If so then I'll have wet and dry data to share. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374765-saunsw-mdtc-wrap-up-thread/#findComment-5977730 Share on other sites
rgb
Big thanks to the execs for setting his one up, and what a bargain! I really enjoyed driving in the wet and I was absolutely amazed with what a car is capable of doing even in terrible weather. This was my first track day, and definitely will not be my last, much to the dismay of my better half Thanks to Duncan for the ride along, and so close after lunch too. I took Adam out on the very next run and he commented that I was doing certain sections really well, and those were the sections where I really applied your advice! I have a ton of photos, but I am completely burned out right now, so I'm off to bed, and I'll make sure to post some of them tomorrow. Risking
Was my first time at mdtc. It's a fairly technical little circuit. I can see it being hard on brakes but fairly mild to the car if you keep it off the concrete. I rekon most responsive cars would top 150km's on the straight if they have good stoppers and get a decent run out of the last hairpin. The downhill like Duncan said rewards the committed but if you second guess yourself it could go real bad real fast. Really needed to settle the front end into the fast downhill right hander or the following left hander just won't happen. It's not the place to take a big Hp laggy GTR.
