for every win its likely to be 10 losses, agree though ash oppertunity to make good money has been there a couple of times when market tumbles "most in XXXX years" just gotta have the knackers to jump in and hold on tight haha

And yeah, amazing how much you learn and how quickly. It's one of those things where everything is so fascinating you just want to soak it all up.

What I found cool, but dangerous, was the abilty to buy and sell in the same day...with money you don't even have, because of buy and sell contracts being settled on the same day. As long as you had the money to cover the potential loss, say a very conservative 50% fall in the space of a day, you could invest double what you actually have as long as you sell before market close...

And then there's margins lol...

Agreed luck does play a big part. You can do all the research and fundamentals on a company but it may turn south, and south quick due to market sentiment. A company may be structurally sound but the market is driven by greed and fear.

Back in the hay day the most I made was $15k in a week, this was off $12k capital. But have also lost just as much.

These days I just put money in the mortgage :D

yeh i rkn insider trading must be rife, i mean stamping out is almost impossible if you happen to know a guy who knows a certain company has just won/is about to wina big contract or find a new oil field gas line etc then BOOM jump on that shit

lol insider trading is so rife it's almost unwritten law...only have to look at number of trades made a day before big announcements...complete horse shit but there's no way to prove it. ASX query goes "please explain the big price rise/fall and sudden heavy trading in your stock" "blah

blah we blame market fluctuations and release of quarterly reports".

Even the pros get f**ked up in this day and age. For every successful investment story you hear about there's at least another that doesn't go so well. And too many guys attributing all their success to skill, when luck is half of it and someone has to come out on top. I remember all the cunts who were going on about how they predicted the GFC etc. didnt hear a peep from them before it happened!

A lot of them get greedy though.

I know a few already in that boat. Some that'll have to now hang onto the stocks for a good 6 months before its viable to sell. Simply because they wanted that "extra couple %"

I say fk it, if you've made over 10% - sell. If it's at 30% then good on ya.

People get regret that they sold before the "peak" in many instances but you cant have that attitude or you'll go mad

Lol was just wanting to see how someone that had to pay for a holiday with a credit card, has a vested interest in anything

You cannot be serious... >_<

Not really.. only said that to make him feel a little better lol

Who gives a shit anyway. Dezz obviously does though, cheeky curious cunt

I was always one to cash out as soon as I'd made a few dollars. Same with any game at the casino. Don't care what could have been if I've still got something out of it. A mate on the other hand, he's held onto one share through around 4 big peaks and troughs, refusing to sell and buy back in each time that I've advised him to...he could have more than doubled his money by now if he listened to me. I didn't have the guts to follow my own advice, it's easier to make decisions on money that isn't yours. I don't know what he's waiting for though...

I travelled all over Europe, as well as L.A,, Vegas and San Francisco, and paid cash.

But thanks for thinking of my feelings

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
