I don't get why the media is focusing on the Jill Meagher case so much though. I mean yeah it's terrible and all that, killing someone is not right no matter how farked in the head you are - and I say bring back the electric chair.

But people are killed all the time and receive no media attention at all and cases drag on for months/years as a result. The only reason i can think of, it because she was in the industry.

Does it mean the media does not care about the deaths and murders of other people as much? What about the public, Facebook groups springing up all over the place for instance with people that otherwise wouldn't know about the murders and other heinous crimes that are committed each day.

Raises interesting questions.

^^ This. It's a horrific crime, but it's far from the only one that happens

What about all the missing persons in Australia? How many woman that have had the same thing happen but no-one knows because ours not blasted on media sources. People are ignorant if they think this is the only time this has happened, and going by some of the responses on fb groups they are

It's KONY all over again.

Give it a week.

Yes and this is my point. She wasn't famous or anything a week ago.

So why do they (public) know about it, why is the media focusing on it? Aside from the industry - Maybe because she is attractive/white/female?

Why do people only care when it's shoved in their faces on the front page of every paper & news station?

Not that any of the above questions will be answered - although I'm sure Birdman will have interesting views on such a topic :)

It's still farked either way (the killing bit).

The media don't care, sad reality of it. They are a business like any other; profit driven. If they don't show the popular story, people don't watch/read their shit. It is true that celebrities / beautiful people will get more initial exposure from the media, we care more about them than average people in life...why not in death, too? Murder is murder in a legal sense, but as far as the media and public attention is concerned, there are varying degrees of it. Abduction is great for ratings - we love a good drawn out mystery. If the first news report finds a body and prosecutes the killer in one go (e.g. nightclub stabbing), all the juice has been squeezed already.

In this particular case, besides comparatively slow news at the moment (watch her story disappear if we had a terrorist attack in Australia), I think you're on the money. It hits home for a radio station, so it's a big news item for them and their industry contacts and details are easy to draw on. Then there's the snowball effect: the more media report on it, the more people talk about it and vice versa until you have a national story.

As for the public...people don't actually care about Jill Meagher. It /is/ only because it gets shoved in their face, because we don't like to hear about the bad things happening to people. Well we do, but only when no one is looking (the first question is always /how/ she died). So who will be speaking her name in 2 months when the killer has been put away and the articles/reports aren't the "in" story anymore? Not me. I don't wish what happened to her on anyone, but what I'm having for lunch today will get more thought from me...alas, I'm honest.

Also agree about ignorant idiots on Facebook. Usually people who've never given thought to the possibility that thousands get murdered every day around the world. If they did, they might side with apathy, like I do.

P.S. apologies for the tl;dr, you can blame Ash.

I knew it would be a good post. I agree, well said :D

@ emts

Sad day for the owner. I will make sure this car makes it's way back to Sandown lol

and rightly so.

was quite quick for a un opened engine, give it a nice bottom end and you should be in for some fun.

bit of a pity as well, as Bel was a nice bloke, pity he no-longer out on the track. tho there is some rumors he moving to a wrx and might be back out.

Well it was pushing 270rwkw on Racepace's dyno on 14psi with stock turbos. I found that to be quite high as well..

With regards to the bottom end, I'll see what Tony comes up with the N1 block, I suppose be easier just to do the bottom end once and for all.

He was telling me around 12 months, due to new addition to the family. But if it's gonna be sooner than that, then props to him

Indeed a great bloke, was very thorough about the car and was able to answer questions and provide documents where necessary.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
