I'm no expert on the physics of flow and pressure, but I would think that regardless of length (to an extent), once a tube has been filled with air or fluid, then changes in pressure should be near instantaneous at either end?

Think of it this way..do you want air pockets in your brake lines?

some fluids are very im-compressible so yes the pressure change would be near instant.

something more compressible ie air, it's going to take more to impact it, your going to have to change the pressure of a much greater volume so I would expect lag to increase.

plus same goes with zorst gases getting to turbo they have to travel more distance.

But in having more distance to travel there is also restriction too, so whatever detriment it gives to spooling the turbo, it could help with the engine building up RPM too?

As the turbo is 4-5M back from the engine it shouldn't get too hot, there will be a heat shield over it all, and hopefully carpet back over the lot. I have to test it with an infra-red thermometer on the dyno first.

Lol something about a turbo sealed in the boot makes me feel uneasy.

That is going to be a lot of heat and no doubt the hot air will enter the cabin area.

Cut into the floor of the spare wheel bay and set up some cold air feed

i'd say there should be a little lag with regards to spool but, nothing serious. 4-5m isn't that long. As air is a compressible fluid, at even at scotty's 45psi, that just resolves to 3bar, which does nothing for compressibility, so there will still be an effect, though, pipe length is a lot less of a factor than a restriction.

But theoretical vs physical, i still think scotty should give it a try.

The turbo won't be laggy, the engine should have the .82 rear GT35 pushing 20psi by around 2.5k, but it may not be as responsive as it would be hanging off the manifold...

The piping up and back is 2.5 inch so not too much area to fill.

Haha, days off important too :P. What is not good is when you take days off, and then unexpected events mean you can't go on days you were planning to go !

Also gotta figure out if it is indeed just my bulb that has burnt out in my headlight... if it is... china bulbs off ebay, $10... phillips like $67+ ... DECISIONS... Not sure if trust quality (+ shipping time probably like 2 weeks+) ... but then dat money =[

    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
