anyone know how to time yourself at an untimed event?

mates doing sandown. untimed event.

theres probably an app you can get for your smartphone, not sure how accurate or reliable it would be though.

could always have a mounted go pro and check the video later at a certain spot for times? again bit of a guess & hassle but would give you a pretty close idea..

Download RaceChrono for Android...

Pair it with an external 10hz Bluetooth GPS like a Qstarz BT-Q818XT stuck to the top of the windsheild if you want anything resembling accuracy (as a phones inbuild gps isn't going to be able to update fast enough, especially down low in the car (pocket or glovebox or center console))

Add Sandown to the list of "My Tracks"

hit "Start Session", then drive.

+ 1

Its accurate to within tenths of the actual natsoft times.

I also mount the phone onto the dash so i can see live sector and laptimes

Have it in the car and concentrate on the stopwatch while doing 200 down the main straight...

What?

It's no different to quick look at the gauges while doing 200.

Yeah I'd rather not click a stop start stopwatch when on a race track.

What?

Again, it's no different to switching lights/indicators while doing 200+ km/h anywhere really. Won't cause you to lose control and heading for armco barrier or concrete wall.

You land vaginas need to ride a bike at 250+ for some perspective

Or watch youtube footage of nutters doing that speed.

Or watch crazy goat lovers doing 250+ in highway between Istanbul and Ankara, while being followed by couple of BMWs driven like its stolen.

Therefore you'll be fine with a $2 stopwatch. Cos you're not me.

I'm not saying it can't be done it's just not preferred

And I would prefer not to do it, same as every other track day car, haven't seen one driver go out on a hot lap and time himself with a stopwatch in the events I have been too

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
