seriously though, wagga wagga is 6.5 hours from newcastle.

when you have people driving from newcastle/central coast to wake field park for their only fair priced track (4 hour drive for me) theres a market for it on the central coast and i cant beleive someone isnt pouncing on it.

There was talk of doing something out behind wyong somewhere but as always too many people whinged and didnt want it anywhere near them. But I'd agree a full sized public track between the coast and newcastle would be a great idea.

As for the track layout I'm glad i'm not the only one who thought it looked a bit basic.

i only know 1 sau member from the illawarra (and has also moved) that goes to wakie, everyone else comes from sydney :S

What's needed is a facility that has a sealed track, a dirt track, a motocross track and a 4WD track.

All we need is some super rich guy who like his motorsport to buy some land and build it up, shouldn't cost more than $50,000,000.

Have it close enough to the big smoke to get in the punters but far enough out to stop the whinging bastards happy.

If I win the $70,000,000 lotto next week I'll do it, I'm sure you could make some dollars by getting all the disciplines using it, hell the sealed road, tower and sheds would be the main things that big dollars would be spent on, the dirt sections are the work of a loader and grader which would only need minimal maintenance and the 4wd track wouldn't need maintaining much as they like getting bogged and self recovering anyway.

All we need is a table top mountain somewhere with about 3 square kilometres.

And a rich guy.

Apologies for the lengthy post.

It’s been a long time since posting (or reading) the forums. Good to see the track days are alive and healthy. It looks like everyone is having a great time and benefiting from the opportunity to give these high-performance machines their head in the relative safety of a controlled environment.

The Riverina Motor Complex is a proposed driver training and motorsports competition venue for Wagga Wagga in NSW. The aim of the project is to provide a boost to the local economy and to give the region's clubs a track day option that lies halfway between Sydney and Melbourne.

The project is coming up against some local resistance and a petition has been circulated to generate support for the project (see the end of this post for the link to the petition).

My view, after 6 seasons of inter-club motorsports competition (and at least 1 club record along the way) is, that the opportunity to channel my driving "enthusiasm" (aggression?) through healthy competition (thanks Budge, Adam, Ray, Scott and Chris for some memorable “non racing”!) in a safe, well structured environment, meant that I didn't feel the need to express that same spirit on our public roads.

It also meant that I was far more familiar with my own car’s performance envelope, so that in the event of a "situation" I was better equipped to make the right decisions –more quickly.

I fail to see how the opportunity to “test and learn” on a track or skidpan could be a bad thing given the rate of road fatalities -particularly amongst young males. When we consider the lack of entertainment options that regional centres often struggle with when mixed with the attendant boredom that results and we add the appeal of an open country road and high speed (not to mention a splash of alcohol) it’s not surprising.

I am signing the petition (despite the fact that I may never use the facility) because I have experience of having to regain control of my own car and 2 sons that will eventually become drivers. I hope that this facility is successful and it results in prosperity, enjoyment, improved skills, safer drivers and it saves some lives along the way.

There are quite a few SAU club guys who travel out of Wollongong to use wakie.

And outside of our club there is a VERY strong attendance.

Within 2 hours of Sydney, we have three tracks. One very affordable, one hard to book, one ludicrously expensive.

Unfortunately we lost one of the best tracks around... Oran Park

Its in Kulnura. Apparently the owner has a fleet of Lotus Elise's that he and his friends race around the track in. Don't quote me on that though.

I think we should rally around to see if the guy will let SAU use the track, it would be well worth it...

It would have to be a 'drive at your own risk' policy if you were allowed to drive on it - but how often do you see that

And of course there would need to restrictions on the number of people who turn up, and the type of people who turn up (the latter seems to ruin some motorsport events and meets)

That and the day he chooses to sleep in he's annoyed by people running around in cars that are noisy as frack and they end up trashing his property.

To get on his private "track", you need to be invited.

Its not a race track its a private road. Its a very nice road, The long straight is actually down hill with no run off area. He is very strict on noise levels and driving style. It is mainly used for up market drive days for new models etc

Its also 5.2km long

the proposed track reminds me a bit of barbagello (or whatever the track was that the v8's raced on on the weekend)
