I had an awesome day, lots of fun, can't wait to get back out there to do it all again soon..

Thanks again Martin for being my driving instructor at the start of the day, learnt heaps!

Blew out the 2 manifold-to-turbo gaskets (one on each side of the spacer) towards the end of the day haha, so I will have to take the turbo off to replace them.. No biggie.. other then that I had a good day! Was really happy with my times considering I was using street tyres and being my first time at PI

Hey guys, it was nice to meet many of you at what turned out to be a great day. I had a great time and with Jack scoring a PB on the car's second outing we were stoked. I have a few pics up (mostly of our car) but a few random pics too. There's only a few but some of you might find them interesting. I'm not much of a photographer though so while there were heaps of shots, not many were good enough to publish. > http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.484856611541762.121171.122361571124603&type=1

Cheers, Jarrard.

Im surprised they didnt give out a dB reading or some sort of evidence to back up claims.

also, cheers for the pics links. werent gonna buy any, but the thumbnails will do :P

Katie musnt have liked the Pulsar :(

we had the battery go flat after the second session so lost lots o photo time, (my fault for not charging)

that said next time you come along intro yourself to her and tell her what car and group and believe me you will be overloaded with pics.

Good to see new people out there giving it a crack!

Blew the motor. Didn't really get a chance to test the splitter and cannards...

Do a PIARC weekend. Lots of track time and no ghay 75db restrictions. Can't believe how many people got done! I reckon their meter was inaccurate.

PIARC is a 95db day.

Shit, that sucks! Hopefully you'll have it up and running soon. You still gonna enter wtac? What's the plan, a built motor?

The splitter and canards looked the business, hopefully they'll make a big difference.

Best of luck mate, hopefully you'll get it all sorted soon.

Congrats to all those who scored PB's! As others have said, it was a great day for it, just a pity so many people had dramas whether it be mechanical/noise or otherwise.

I was bitterly disappointed my day was cut short by mechanical gremins but what can you do (thats the last time I'm fitting gtst parts to a gtr hey bris). As for the whole noise thing, Snowie hit it on the head in that the club running the day has no control over the matter. So many things effect the noise reading...clouds, wind direction blah, blah its hard to know what pushes one car over the limit and not others. I've said it before but I will say it again...as far as I am concerned noise limits do not belong on a trackday. You go there to see how fast you and your car is....not to back off at the location where a sound meter is

Completely agree Ant - its craziness, especially at PI - who the hell is gonna complain, penguins.............

Yeah I'll only ever be going to PI on PIARC days from now on! I still got done with gate plumbed back and muffler on it. Blew the motor at that stage so wasn't too fussed. Definitely not worth going down there if it's a 75db day.

Sorry I didn't have more time to chat Jarrard. Didn't realise you were driving Jacks car too. Looks to have survived the track! What time did you guys get?

Hey Russ I got a 1:58 (that was my PB).... Which isn't big boy stuff.... But I'm chuffed that I made it through a whole day on a fairly stock motor - even though I blew something in the exhaust side of things...

I'm really learning how the car handles (compared to my GTR). The tyreleifs take the headache out of setting tyre pressure! I'm seeing how the Achilles track tyres perform. It seems they are more capable than me!!

If you have thoughts on us moving from wrx days to pirac days at pi def let ms committe know

I will be suggesting it as well.

Think it time we looked at some other days not just wrx ones after a few things this year.

If you look on the WRX forum, there seems to be some unrest:

I'd hope they keep things together, to keep promoting track days.

In comparing AROCA to WRX days at PI, definitely prefer AROCA.... they appeared much more welcoming and helpful.

I think thats a great idea.

If the sound measuring equipment at future events is likely to be as bad as it was this time round, forking out money for a quieter exhaust seems a waste.

Hey Russell didnt you run your car with the muffler on at Sandown no problems? That was back about this time last year. Was the gate in or out?

The noise thing will always leave people upset. You can be sure the officials hate being the ones telling you that you have to go home....it is a thankless job and they are just doing what track management instruct them to do re noise warnings.

A guy I know who races in the state series was telling me that the noise is a strange thing....he was saying on overcast days his and fellow competitors cars always read higher. On windy days they get away with their better flowing mufflers...and he had to do a custom weber airbox as after quietening up his 9,000rpm twin cam 4 he was still getting pinged for what ended up being induction noise.

So gates etc are a no-no and even street systems will have trouble on certain days. Leon got away at Sandown with the worlds loudest SR20 but I got done only bedding brakes and cruising around in 1:25s. :(

Its BS, and part of the reason why I have not tried Sandown since being booted twice in 4 weeks

I enjoyed the day, second time as a driver at the island and i'm hooked.

got a pb, also got pinged for noise, but only once, which is strange in itself...

ps: best/cheapest place to buy splitfire coil packs online?

Shit, that sucks! Hopefully you'll have it up and running soon. You still gonna enter wtac? What's the plan, a built motor?

Another stock motor and fix whatever caused the lean out on cyl 5. Then back out there. Engine was out yesterday and new one should be in by the end of the week :)

Good stuff mate. Not a bad time at all. Tyreleifs??

Gate would have been gate in coz you were still here and your dad hadn't finished making the screamer yet haha. No noise problem but maybe they weren't testing that day...

No probs mate, I was pretty occupied anyway with everything else that was going on. I was just spectating today, Jack was doing all the driving, I just stood around inflating tyres and re-attaching blown inter-cooler plumbing.

The tireliefs Jack was referring too are a device we've attached to the wheels which relieve pressure from the wheels as your tyres heat up. So, in our example we had the tyres running 34psi, so we inflate the tyre to 34psi COLD and as the tyres heat up the tireliefs release air pressure and maintain a consistent 34psi pressure. It means airing up after each session but once they are set to your desired pressure, you can simply fill the tyre till you hear the tireliefs hissing....you can leave them knowing that they will relieve the pressure to 34psi without the need to check etc. Handy little things.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
