Good afternoon Benjamin,

I have reason to believe you may have taken ownership of an R33 GT-R recently and, perhaps more importantly, this car may be of a higher specification than many others.

Would you be so kind as to share some images and details of the car in question such that we may all enjoy its beauty and outstanding quality?

Cordially yours,

Dan.

This week we are working on the nightmare of mounting the EFR. There is NO room in an S15 engine bay.

To anyone reading thinking of using any bigger than dual 38mm gates on an SR, don't!!! You will end up panelbeating your car to make it work. Thankfully, we have millimetres to spare and don't have to do that.

The wastegates are in the way of the turbo drain adapter, so this will be sorted with an Aeroflow 8 orb to 10an swivel adapter arriving this week. Speedflow wastegate fittings are ordered so we can plan our route to the MAC valve, and after that finish the remainder of fabrication in the engine bay. The next hurdle will be the NASA fuel system which will take a LOT of hours to sort out  : | .

Looking forward to refitting the interior, front bumper and taking it to the tuner.....

It's amazing how as a build progresses there are unexpected changes, especially upon the realisation that modern day tech from other countries is light years ahead of a 'japanese nostalgia build'. The car wouldn't be where it's at if it wasn't for the intervention of Piggaz & Mick_o, the most expensive BBQ I've ever had as the build went in the complete opposite direction.

Progress on the S15 continues, just received these photos.

Remainder of work requires mounting the catch can and then it'll be 100% ready for fuel system, wiring & ECU.

The oil drain was next to impossible to fit and had to be machined on an angle with special fittings. The 6boost manifold sits it in a spot with NO ROOM. If I had my time again, I'd pay the extra and run a Hypertune manifold seriously.

Dual map sensor provisions welded on. Intake pipe fab complete & the air filter/catch can will be fully enclosed. A lot of work went into the power steering reservoir & -10AN catch can. The underside was rolled in two planes to the shape of the strut tower, & it also features a pretty complex internal baffle arrangement, a provision has been made to run push lock hose for when I need to drain the can.

4 port mac valve is all hooked up with teflon line goodness.

So in the meantime I'll refit the interior, front bumper & bonnet, & fit superclamps to the intercooler piping.

The next few months will be slog to restore my bank balance so I can spend on a TRP fuel system & Insight ECU package. After that, the likelihood of me spending money on cars, unless something is broken, is close to zero.

Also, I am not looking forward to trying to get my engine and all the shit into my bay either, this is stressing me out looking at the clearances lol

Since the EFR plan came to fruition, over 140 man hours & counting.......

Dan if you haven’t bought your manifold already I think a hypertune manifold will give you more room for plumbing...

No I haven't yet, thanks for the heads up. Was yours 6boost?

Yes 6boost. Not to mention the EGT on the first runner was installed at the wrong angle hitting the cylinder head, and that took them 3 months to fix rather than sending me a new manifold. The 6boost manifold I had for the 3071R...I just got a message from the bloke I sold it too that the wastegate flange cracked off completely. So I think a Hypertune item is a better path.

Appreciate the insite.

I have heard mixed things about 6boost these days.

I present to you the EFR7670 Street Drag S15 SPL (formerly the Rising Sun S15 ?).

Very thankful to the mechanic/engine builder who got the car to this stage....the amount of thinking that went into this build was huge, and his work really is flawless with meticulous attention to detail. I can't imagine how much I would of been charged if the car was at any big name Sydney workshop.

Remainder is interior/bodywork refit, the fuel system, battery relocation cabling, oil catch can push lock drain hose, wiring & ECU.

I'll need to somehow sort a custom cap for the radiator breather tank as the one from Sunline Racing doesn't seal properly.

The size of that turbo has WARP SPEED written all over it ? #TEAMEFR

What power are you expecting from this setup as I've been looking at turbos...

Whatever a reasonable limit is for a stock SR20 bottom end. Don’t forget the gearbox is made from glass so that’s a grenade waiting to explode.

All in it should do somewhere between 400 and 420 kw on E85, on a roller dyno.

Fark, these things are pretty light to

Should be good for some mad skids

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required.
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?
