Just a warning to the SAU Community from a private source. There is an R34 GT-R that's appeared online For Sale, with highly altered km's.

Car has 145,000kms on it when looking at a Japanese listing:

Different car you say? Well take a look at the old pictures that were up on the website for a while, but have been altered some time today.

Guess it's lucky a screen dump was taken before things were changed to tell the true story :merli:

Looks like the wheels/front bar have been altered (if the adjusted pics are even of the actual car).

As the car has come from Auction - if you are enquiring - ask to see the Auction sheet, although it would likely be "unavailable" or some excuse about it not being purchased via Auctions etc.

Buyer beware people.

Good find. They seem to have a lot of R34 GTRs with similar kms ;) A lot of wear on the inside of the chair bolster too on the Japanese auction photos. Conveniently changed to black in AU.

Not surprising really considering who is selling this car.

Unless you can view an auction sheet you are probably safe to assume most imports will have had a "hair cut" these days.

Even then it there is a fair chance it has had one at home before it went to auction.

i rekon there two different cars (at least the photos are). The colour match is to good for the front bar.

The jap photos also have a nismo speedo unit, double din stereo and modified intake piping. The aussie has single din, factory speedo, different exhaust, different wheels, factory option flood lamps, stock front bar, stock airbox/stock piping, stock wheels.

I reckon someones done a swap over on all the parts to their personal MNP GTR. I sure would with a lot of the gear on it.

The bar is quite hard to come by. The rest is easily changed.

So all the aftermarket gear has been taken off and replaced with stock - intake and intercooler piping were switched out, exhaust (originally was a Titanium one) as well.

With the speedo, the Nismo one would be prefered by the owner and the stock one would have 29000km.. which is more attractive to buyers.

Lol, seen this happen numerous times before.

This is why the value of imports in Australia are declining so rapidly...because a bunch of train wrecks always manage to trickle their way into the country through the dealerships (whose main aim is to profit).

Immaculate 1990s performance vehicles (think skyline gtr, supra, silvia etc) in Japan command an absolute premium...and command bugger all when they are in shit condition, which is why dealerships here can make a massive profit as theyll put a rather large markup on them.

I hope someone doesn't buy that particular vehicle, theyll get a few nice suprises later on down the track.

So it sounds like the photo's are of an entirely different car to what will be coming in - because you can clearly see the screen shot of the site prior to editing was using identical pictures to the Auction. The photos are just to "make do" for now, as they've been caught red handed.

Too early to say. Just keep an eye on MNP GTRs coming in to Australia, there won't be many.

Theyd be using pictures of another other car on their site in hope people dont realise which one theyve actually bought from Japan, as they would have realised soon after they put the actual pics up on the website that people might find out they bought a nice train wreck.

Anyway, a MNPIII in Japan is a rarity, and in immaculate condition they command roughly 85k + (iron chef will have a better idea of prices at auction, as i just scan a lot of the dealerships). So to be advertised at their dealership for 59k (with a nice juicy profit + shipping + compliance) etc....you guys can imagine the condition/price they picked it up for in Japan :laugh:

Terry I remember this NUR. It had gold rims on it (with chrome lips) and no interior pics were up on their website or carsales, and they were asking 75/80k for it from memory. I would love to hear what actually happened with this car. This all import crew sound like a bunch of tip rats.....Also, their asking price for this "stock" MP3 v-spec is way overinflated. Even if it was all genuine....

What I think happened with this car is that it came over as it appeared in the japanese pics, and when it was being complianced a whole bunch of stuff came off for the compliance so while they were at it they took the rest of the aftermarket goods off and swapped it all for stock to make the car appear unmolested. Secondly, any half-minded person who has been looking to buy a 34 GTR will know the main tell-tale signs of age/condition to look out for. Bolster wear is dfinitely at the top of the list. Clearly in this instance a simple interior swap has been performed however :I

They have plenty advertised for sale atm to, which I'm sure they all have a similar story as this one.

When searching for mine I wasted a lot of time coming to Sydney from Newcastle to inspect cars, after 3-4 trips I'd had enough and never bothered again.

And I caught them using incorrect photos once before to, they advertised a vspecii with pics of a vsepc, when asked the question they admitted the photos posted weren't of the actually car?... Haha, so, I would say the same has happened here.

That black Nur Michael, had 146,***Kms on it in Japan > Just over 20,***Kms here in Oz.

Yes as well as insisting on Japanese history and auction report, cursory giveaway signs are...

* bolster wear

* carpet wear

* steering wheel wear

* gear knob wear

* scratches under driver's door handle

* windscreen wiper arms ageing

* key scratches on ignition collar

* windscreen mouldings

* scratches on driver's door sill

* plugs should most likely be original on a 30,000Km car

* coil pack looms should be supple and not hard

* wear and tear on front bumper if original

* pedal rubber wear

...and that's before you inspect for rust or damage repair

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.  
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
