  • 2 weeks later...

Went our for a bit of a drive lunch time today and thought I might take a few shots.

Worked out why my other photos were bad due to my phone camera screen was all scratched!, These are a bit better :)

Car was nice and clean untill the front bar filled up with bugs all over it

Yeah it's a legit V-Spec II, build date July, 1994.

VIN and Model number all legit.

Car is located at Carizma International.

thanks for the info.. i contacted them but theyre closed on sundays. You guys seem to be in the know about these models.. ive followed the prices of GTR's for a while now .. this seems to be on the high side but does the VSPECII warrent that?

Yes it does but for more reasons than just the fact that it's a V-Spec 2.

The one thing I have learnt over the last few years is that everybody thinks you can have a great GT-R for under $20K.

You can providing you have relatively low standards.

My definition of a good car and someone else's is totally different.

If I paid $18K for a car (based on what I have seen and believe me I've looked at plenty) I could nearly spend the same again in restoration costs to get it to the level I would be happy with.

Everything costs thousands, not hundreds! In most cases they need paint so unless your happy with a patchwork quilt, you would need to spend about $8K for a quality respray.

Now bare in mind that I am hopeless on mechanicals so I'm up for $100+ per hour in labour so its easy to understand how the spendometre gets out of hand. On the flip side, if I pay top dollar for a nice clean original car (potentially like this one) I'll be in front with a lot less grief.

I bought my V-spec 2 well but will still be $2-$3K over budget. Whilst I can live with that, I actually though I would complete the car $2K under budget so that just typifies how costly it can be to get the end result.

With all that said, if hypothetically I spend $28K all up and I'm 85% happy but a couple more grand will finish it off and I'm REALLY happy what do you do? Pay the money and forget about it. That's what.

What you don't want to do is pay premium money and still have to spend bucket loads on it. You'll be behind the eight ball for ever then.

IMHO......A V-Spec 2 is worth about $3K more in value than the equivalent non-V-Spec car. Factor that in plus the fact that the dealer will have some wriggle room and all of a sudden the deal starts looking pretty good.

If you could buy the car for around $26,000, allow about $2-$3K for general tidy ups and a service and for under $30 you would have a great car.

I've been watching the Japanese auctions for the last 5 months and a grade 4 V-Spec 2 with that mileage + books will sell in Japan for the equivalent of $30K+ all day long. Imagine what a grade 5 will cost you!

If your happy with white (I love white but had to have silver) and the car checks out OK then buy it!

These cars don't come up that often (they only built 1303 VS2's out of nearly 44,000 R32 GT-R's) especially at that price point.

Had I of not bought my car back in February, and had this car been silver, I would have been on a flight down last Friday and probably had in my garage by now as this is the only V-Spec or V-Spec 2 that has been on the market that appears comparable to what my end result will be!

Good luck and keep us all up to date.

Bob.

That's a tidy vspec II! And something that clean you would want it original.. I personally wouldn't pay that much, but that's me. Just needs a stock steering wheel and your done. Good luck and keep us updated

I agree with Bob. As long as a thorough roadworthiness check and 100 point mechanical check comes up good then it's a good buy.

Don't forget that it's in Victoria so they need to rectify any roadworthiness defects before it's sold, at their expense. I ended up having about $5k of work done on mine at the vendor's expense before I picked it up - stuff that wouldn't have been an issue to the vendor if I had bought it in SA.

It's only that high of a price due to the fact it's a V-Spec II.

They do hold some value, they are a rarity amounts the base model R32 GTR's and they are going up in value in Japan, from what I understand or more so, people are willing to a higher price for one.

The Km's on the this car are ok for it's age but getting towards the 100,000 km mark... Having said that, if it drives fine and you service it regularly, it will take you very far.

    • I have done a lot of research before posting here and on gtruk forum. couldn't find anything. I have my gauges all part except the needle itself. the needle has a extremely small hole in the center, but the shaft going to the needle is extremely small and appears to have nothing to index it either. doesn't seem strong enough to simple pry or pull without damaging something. Already tried the old spoon trick on a extra triple meter I have from a gtt, but no luck. the center cap comes off easily but the hole in the meter face plate aren't big enough to get over the needle itself. figured this would be my best place to find someone who might have actually removed theirs. wonder if there is some type of small pin press tool to push the pin in while pulling the needle base off.
    • Ok...its taking me long enough to finally do this.  Feck financial security...heart disease will get me soon enough anyway So welcome to the garage..."Clem" Belsil80 has been running a 370Z in Super TT series. As the road-club car gets upgrades the race car wil get the sloppy seconds
    • Assuming that they will come off without damage at all.... i would have thought just pull straight up off the spindle with a something or other than can reach underneath. Have you searched for youtube vids of people doing similar on R34s or any other Nissan from the same vintage? They should be the same technique, in all likelihhood.
    • Keeping in mind that sandblasting is really aggressive on softer metals like cast alloy, and you can do damage that you might regret. For trash wheels, not a problem. For wheels with value/scarcity issues, etc.... perhaps a less aggressive media is a better choice?
