Hi Shivam, I'm the guy from Perth who approached you & your mate while you were resting up in Apollo bay on Sunday.

Found your build thread you were telling me about - good work! It was nice chatting to you fellas. I'm definitely missing my car after a few months away from home as you could probly gather by the way I chewed your ears off!

Enjoy the car after all the hard work mate. You never know I may meet you again later this year if the SAU Nats are held at Phillip Island!

Wes

Hey mate! I told Al we should have got your name at least, after you had left. Was great chatting with you too, mate. It's a small world indeed.

Yeah would be great to meet you again at the SAU Nats! Bring it on :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Collected some parts over the last few weeks.

Time to get back into doing some events -

Schroth 4 Point Harness, tow Hook and cool Fire Extinguisher mount from DattoP510.

Got the long weekend to work on the car so going to make some big changes to the setup as I've decided to do some events this year.

DECA this month Shivam?

Sure will, mate. Will be a good day at Deca and afterwards! Going to do a Deca then going for a Winton Test N' Tune Day to get some seat time in before I head out for a proper track day. Have to decide what to do tyre wise as the Falken RT615's on the track TE37's, although new tread wise, are now 8 years old! Fine for Deca but that's about it.

I've been busy making a few changes for the coming year or so of events........

Rear cage is back in. Although not as good as a full weld-in, it's a whole lot better than a lot of the Cusco ones i've seen. Well braced for a Jap cage & was an absolute bitch to get in, taking me the whole day.

Seats full back, surprisingly enough, it clears with room to spare. Big plates underneath to bolt it all in. The Mrs isn't overly fond of the change but down the track I'll most likely pull it out again and head towards the full body restoration path.

For the mean time might as well drive and enjoy it for what it was born to do. Events here I come.

When are they ever! :P

Car's looking hot!

Too true.

Thanks mate :)

Got the Schroth harness in today.

Not too sure if mounting the shoulder belts like this is ok with CAMS/AASA as I recall reading something about them requiring plates welded with eye bolts. Have to check.

Fire extinguisher in. These mounts make easy work of the job and the end result looks very neat.

Current state of the interior - The old suede gear and handbrake boots look a bit out of place now that the Sparco seats are gone. Also have to fix the carbon wrap in the passenger pocket that has started to bubble with spray on adhesive. Will also replace the "Carbon" centre console cover. Some parts to arrive before this weekend.

Almost done with the interior now. The focus will go to the drivetrain and exterior next. No full re-spray just yet as I've got another year or so of events I want to do.

Love Superior Auto Creative stuff. Gets a bit addictive.

Also that pesky run in the carbon wrap has since been fixed. Now, off to watch the GP coverage before the carnage starts.

Too true, Ant!

Nice, how good are their parts? Was considering requesting the carbon seat covers for my birthday later in the year ;)

Yeah, it is addictive. In fact most GTR parts are addictive IMO.

I have the same as well in my car mate ;)

Hi Shivam, Just read the entire thread from start to finish. Amazing work and effort put into this machine. I am currently stock now however, I too am looking to go the same setup as you with the RPM stage 1 and -9 for track use as I believe it is suitable enough for what im going to put the car through. My car came from japan with a cage like yours and will be setup for track days with good response. Thanks for the inspiration to get mine sorted. Keep up the good work and effort in your 32R and i cant wait to see it in the flesh at an event sometime.

You'll be very happy with RPM. They have been fantastic to deal with and i've been very impressed with their level of knowledge of these cars and workmanship (and time management!).

:)

Surprised it's taken till now for someone to mention those buttons. I bought the Sparco R353 steering wheel shortly before the car arrived in 2004. Realised afterwards that it doesn't come with a horn! Doh! That's the Sparco dual horn kit. Was considering replacing that setup as it doesn't suit the car anymore. Was thinking a Sparco R383 or similar but that'll make it the third Sparco steering wheel. Seeing as they're not cheap I thought I'd just hold for a while :)

Oh and there is a possible replacement I've been getting work done on for a while so I'll post that up later :)

IMO get an OEM R32 GTR steering wheel for street and just swap that Sparco wheel on for when its tracked. OEM all the way.

Have a look into Nardi Steering wheels.

I got one.

Always wanted an OEM steering wheel.

Simple / looks clean and does the job.

But I got a Nardi, can't complain, I guess.

    • That's awesome. Fully serviced/full log book history for one of those cars is super rare from what I know. With JDM's like Skyline's, Supras, are quite hard to find one with full log book history. S15's seem to be somewhat of an exception, at least the spec s australian delivered models.
    • Hey all, It's been a bit since I have been able to update.  I pulled the fuel pump, first off it was a "universal" pump and the strainer was very clogged, and it was folded over on itself.  I replaced the fuel pump and all is well....  No more stalling.
    • That's convinced me I'll bump up the G30-660 to 770   Any idea if the difference in boost pressure? Cheers

    • Hey guys so turns out this project is going to be much bigger than I thought haha but I've done some my homework and have done a few panels on my car, but one part I can just not visualise is this. If I do a spot repair and I put filler in a dent for example and sand outside of the repair with 320 grit lets say so the primer can stick as I will only put primer on that repair and the surrounding area and then repaint the whole panel. Don't I need to make sure that I don't put primer on the old clear coat? I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down, it's still shiny. I thought putting paint on clearcoat or primer on clearcoat is a bad idea because it won't stick. So in this scenario it's a bit different to mine but imagine someone doing a spot repair and only painting that small section of repair but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat. What am I missing?
