Hey all

Couple questions

1. Who imports / has track only cars?

2. What makes a car track only? looking at a r32 GTR

3. What are rough prices of them?

Thanks

Why bother importing one? There are enough GTR's sitting around in Aus that are so cheap you can just buy and deregister them. If you want a built up race car - what are you using it for? Sprints, IPRA, tarmac rallies? The best race car is one already built for the purpose you want to use it for.

Not always - it depends on what you want to do with it.

Remember things like Jap cages won't be accepted for most CAMS events that require a log-booked cage so you'll need to get that re-done.

Often your cheapest bet is to find a locally done race car on MY105 as Paul suggested. Initial cost MAY be higher but your final cost will probably be lower. But as a rule race cars are usually cheaper than street cars (at least they are a lot cheaper than building one yourself from a street car).

So if it's just a track day car then an import is fine. But if you ever want to do Targa or something similar you'll be struggling without spending the extra $$$. And it will be a lot easier to sell down the track if it is a track only car that can be used for more than just club sprints.

Every "fruited" GTR race only import I've had come through the doors has been a complete and utter shit box. Yes they have all the good parts but they are always tired and worn out.

Electronics are usually butchered with add on things installed upon add on things

Engine parts are usually old and well used if the car is a cheap one

Gearboxes often crunch and fall apart

Cages are really useless.

Brake upgrades often need seals, rotors and pads

Suspension usually worn out and leaking.

As others have said I'd buy a shell locally and build a good fresh car or buy one done already.

Seen and heard of so many cars that sound great on paper but turn out to be nuggets

Here's the link to my for sale thread:

Can work out a good deal if you're serious, have a lot of other parts to help complete it as well.

hey mate thanks for the offer and it does look good.

but id really like to do it myself. Its as much of a hobby / time killer then it is to actually drive it

Seriously there is so much work in a track car build when started from scratch that basing it on someone elses work is a REALLY GOOD IDEA.

Thanks mate,

And why not here. only becasue it seems cheaper and with more fruit importing one

You'l find these fruits are often rotten bud...

I would definitely recomend to just get a shell locally that you can go check out in person if you want to start from scratch..

And time killer is an understatement! Lol more like time serial killer!

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣
    • You’ll be very upset when you bust that too not to mention the gearing totally sucks. Don’t do it.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
