from my testings, running the same turbo externally gated on turbine housing with stock manifold made less power then the same turbo on aftermarket manifold internally gated, and even lesser against aftermarket manifold externally gated.

Turbine housing has been untouched all times, the manifold is restrictive. So scientific solution would be attaching the external gate to the manifold. But factory manifold is twin log, do them properly requires extra work and skills, (I'm in process of building one at moment) while external gate from turbine housing makes the job easier.

my car with turbo mounted on housing made the same power as Jez with an aftermarket manifold....

so it seems to me it does a perfectly good job munted to the housing..

i have seen similar comparisons with garrett turbos as well

plus its just easier on the housing and doesn't look like balls :)

My preferred spot is off the exhaust housing too...and that way you can mount the gate at a desireable angle as well which always helps..,,

So many prefer the gate off the housing but one still claims the manifold is better...I know who I'd listen to....

Woudn't you have to run a turbo with standard manifold with gate of standard manifold, and then mount it to housing to do a back to

back, to make that call? I like it of the exhaust, because i never have to worry about my stock manifold cracking and redoing it, just replace manifold, and 2nd, on a stagea a ex gate fits a lot better on the exhaust housing room wise

cheers

I've been considering getting s external wastegate welded to my HKS 2535. A tail 38. Who has the skills to do this for me? As I'm far from being a competent welder lol.

I like the idea of off the housing because if the housing is the point of greatest restriction then the gate should work best there and its also further away from the collector,

there might be better scavenging effect with it further away from the collector is my thinking.. :whistling:

Yo yo
In need of some advice! I don't know if should weld my waste off my standard manifold or if I should weld it of my turbo rear housing

You just love showing that porn off, don't you Bob. :P

It's a little 'In your face' for us over the pond though mate, hence why I prefer low mounting and hiding the gate.

Porn is right!

I agree its hell in your face, but the wastegate exit is in line with where the gasses exit the manifold, so not really any other option if you want the best flowpath i suppose.

If i was doing it again it would be my choice. Vband off the housing and leave the stock manifold be.

I remember Corky bell had a couple of pics in Maximum Boost of turbos with the waste gate mount welded to the turbine housing . I think his theory was that if you make it easy for the exhaust gasses to enter the waste gate it will work well . If the gasses have to make a 90 degree exit into the gate like say an integral wastegate system does then the higher the gas speed is the less its inclined to change direction and flow out the valve when its open .

Gate positioning would have something to do with how often you want to change the turbo or its turbine housing too , simpler spannering if its mounted on the manifold .

A .

Those tail manis look awesome. And make it very easy spannering with the v/band clamp as Scotty nm35 said 1 nut and it's off. What more could you want for making life easy. :)

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo :-D

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
