I took my V36 to the local dealer the other week to get a spare key cut/coded, and requested whilst it was there for them to check and update firmware if required. Apparently the local dealer cant touch it because its an import. The key works fine, but the firmware update or even checking the version was a no go.

Its a shame, my car left Japan in 2012, and has a few issue the update appears to fix

no such thing as a "GTR" dedicated dealership here in NZ. This was the official Nissan dealer, they also just so happen to sell and service GTRs (like most ive come across).

Ahhh... that's different from Australia. In Victoria for example, we have many Nissan dealers but only two 'premium' ones (Ferntree Gully and Werribee (I believe)). Only these 'premium' ones sell and service GTRs (being a highly specialised skill set).

From Ferntree Gully Nissan website:

This year we celebrate yet another award winning year as a visionary Nissan Dealer. Once again we have maintained the prestigious Platinum status within the Nissan dealer community along with only a handful of other dealers across Australia.

It sounds strange that you say most Nissan's in NZ sell and service GTRs, it doesn't make sense when it requires specialist skills and there aren't that many GTR's on the road, that seems inefficient. Might be worth double checking. Maybe all dealers can sell GTR's but not all can service, not sure?

So for us in Aus, these premium ones are the ones to go to for new keys for imports and the like given their higher skill set. These were also the dealers that were encouraged by Nissan to become Infiniti dealers.

OK, done the searching for you. It does seem there are special 'certified GTR dealers'.

Find them here - http://www.nissangtr-nz.com/en/web_GTR/buying/buying_dealer.htm

Interesting. Im in Wellington and the dealer isnt listed on that site, but does sell and service the GTR.

http://www.gazley.com/nissan/nissan-range/

They dont seem to have one on the yard to at the moment, but they have sold a couple.

Gazley had no trouble doing my key for me, it was just the firmware they wouldnt do.

In saying that Infiniti isnt in NZ at all either.

They cant do it themselves. Nissan wont give them the file. Its done remotely by their techline/support. Pretty amazing they can hook it up to a laptop and a dude in nsw somewhere upsates and configd it.

So has anyone successfully resolved this in NSW?

Considering a sedan, but this issue is the one thing holding me back at the moment.

Get yourself a 2009+ ... i don't think they have this problem. Mine doesn't at least .

I would highly recommend NOT letting this issue hold you back :) They are amazing cars for the money and you'll only read about the very small % of users on the forum who have an issue like this.

I'm sure the vast majority of users have no problems at all.

yeah i think the revised 2009+ models are fine

i'd say there is a touch of harshness in auto gear shifting and slight lag on manual shifting

but i think that can be resolved with a tune but i'll be trying a grounding kit first

Yeh, I can't say I'm overly impressed with the 7 speed :/

Pretty lazy changes most of the time. It's frustrating because sometimes it shifts really quick so I know it can... its just that 90% of the time it doesn't.

Soooo needs a valve body mod but MV Autos don't do one :(

Good to know thought it was just my wifes 2009 sedan that had a slightly harsh gearbox as the 5speed coupe i drove shifts pretty seamless in comparison...

yeah the infiniti g37 in the US with the 7A/T has had a firmware update to remedy the harsh acceleration and down shifting issues

lots of threads about it on myg37 etc, but even to that extent it's not a full solution and apparently makes the DS mode less 'sporty'

great car still but makes me half guess my decision for the 7A/T 370GT over the 350GT 5A/T i drove before buying my car

I'd rather live with the aggressive nature of the transmission than make any sacrifices to the performance. Since first driving it, I was left with the impression that these cars just want to gallop instead of trot. I wouldn't be regretting choosing the 370 over the 350. Smoothness is for the bedroom, not the road.

For those NZ folks... I'm going to attempt the firmware update in Auckland through a GTR accredited Nissan dealer. I've been living with the low rpm lurch for a while now and isn't too big a deal, yet. Will be interesting to see how it goes - there's a tonne of these around town now so surely i'm not the first to approach them with this.

Hey, that will be awesome Charlie! Thanks for keeping us informed and look forward to it.

I will be very keen for it if it doesn't stop being the beast it is when floored

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
