Actually, I'm speaking with a company in USA.. they produce 220amps ( https://www.dcpowerinc.com/high-output-alternators.html?make=Nissan&model=Quest) I sent them an email and they are currenctly beta-testing one for a RB in a 240sx.

Should be available this winter once they done with testing and said I will be the first one to order one :P

600+ KWs,fuel systems alone takes 32amps,ive already blown 2 secondhand alternators and the brand new one im using is getting very hot!As im an electrician i understand all your electricals should be at least 150% overkill for reliability.Checked out the RH9 mentioned above,sounds the goods,but $1000 once you ship from UK,found a website in Japan that can get one to me for $610,this will be my christmas present.Thanks for the help guys

add fuel pump and audio amp and your in for at least 150.. so if you want a bit of space in case of.. then you need a 180 amp.. Actually I calculated I needed about 200amps. I bet my ignition and throlle will feel snappier once I install the new alt.

If you want Nissan OE the go seems to be later Maximas with all the elec options . I know we got Hitachi 110 a alternators here but the belt tensioner mount is in a different position on the I think front casing . I have a 110a one here gutted for when I get around to needing an alternator , for me 110a replacing 80 should be fine .

I never got around to researching Mitsubishi alternators to see if there's anything better than 80 for an RB25 that's direct fit .

Something to remember with high output alternators is that the rotor is usually considerably heavier so revolving inertia to have to accelerate and decelerate . Note the pulleys get wider for contact area so they don't slip . Also some big late alternators have some wacky decoupling guts type pulleys I think so the alt can run faster than its pulley sort of like the free wheel on a pushbike . Probably makes life easier for the belts and off throttle engine transients .

you can get for under $600 from www.rhdjapan.com cheaper when they run weekend specials

difference between both is just Cosmetic first is Blue & Silver ( blue pulley )

& the second Red & Black ( red Pulley )

got my RH9 within 6 days from them to Country Victoria.

The ones to research are late luxo barges that had a filming studios worth of electronic poser crap . These often have high output alternators to run all this crap at virtually idle for traffic driving .

Unfortunately we didn't get the real Nissan lux sedan , Infinity , like they do in the states . We got fobbed off with the Maxima FWD POS though the real one is available here now .

Also worth researching late four tonne drives because these are often rolling lounge rooms with all the crap as well .

I had a bit more of a sniff into Mitsubishi brand alternators since some Skylines have them and it looks like its easier to have a win with them than later Hitachis - exc maybe late Maxima 110a ones .

So far the highest output one I've found is off a Mitsy 4B11 and it's 12v 130a . Search for 130a Mitsubishi alternator because I can't post the link .

Also things like RX7 Ser 6 7 8 and Pajeros have Mitsy alternators in the 90-110a range .

Be good it their guts went into Skyline Mitsy casings , cheers A .

Can an alternator rewinder/repairer bump up the output of a standard alternator?

Obviously they'd need to change regulator as well but wondering do they add extra windings or something to bump them up?

Yes they can,but only old school auto electricians can do it,and can be quite pricey.Thats what we did years ago,remember turning a 25amp one up to 45amp for a torana,that was hi tech in the day.Much easier now just to buy one.

I fitted one from a 2010 turbo diesel patrol I think...not sure exactly what year it was, but it didn't have the vacuum pump attached to it. I believe it was rated at 130amps also.. Was about $500 brand new from Nissan spare parts. It was not a direct bolt up though, I did have to machine up a linkage so it could still adjust belt tension. Bolted to the block the same but the lug to pick up the slotted adjuster bracket was in a different spot, hence the linkage.

I found another possible in Nissan Muranos , I think they have a Hitachi 110a alternator 2003-2010 and a 130a from 2011 to 2013 ?

BTW can an auto sparky tell me if you have to wire up the 3rd and 4th pins used on later alternators ? I think the engines computer must have some control over charging loads possibly for emissions BS reasons .

hi Brandon - I had the RH9 Alternator installed on my R32 GTR just prior to Christmas.

It was direct bolt on.

However, they did put a new inline fuse in mine. Will find out the ampage and reason in the next day or so.

Cool. Please do. By the way, do you know if the alternator comes with voltage regulator or are they external? I'm wondering if that might be faulty. Any case, I've placed an order for the RH9 alternator, hopefully its all good.

    • Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. Got the seats out (hoping I could find some existing grommets but no such luck). By tapping and measuring etc. I could figure out where I could drill through if needed. But first I borrowed an inspection camera and managed to go through factory holes in the chassis rail and could see that the captive nut was holding steady which is why it could retighten. So it was indeed a stripped section of thread, so I applied downforce by levering the bolt head with a screwdriver and went slowly back and forth until it came out. Camera helped a lot cos I could monitor that the captive nut was holding tight. Now I just have one very seized main subframe nut to tackle 馃槄
    • BOVs do have a purpose, if you ever log pressure before and after the throttle body, you will see a spike pre throttle on lift off from a WOT condition. Enough to bend throttle blades / damage e-throttle motors or simple assist in blowing off cooler pipes. FWIW, the above on really applies to those running at least 2 bar of boost. OP shouldn't have an issue, on the other hand, here are some videos of my shit box over a decade ago with some succulent dose with the airbox on and off. That shit box is unrecognisable these days 馃珷    
    • I've tried all different combinations of BOVs/ no BOV and stock bypass valves over the years, on gear changes the stock bypass valve seems to get the car back on boost quicker because in part the turbos wheel speed isn't being slowed down by reversion, although they have issues holding boost much over the stock setting. Most aftermarket BOVs you can adjust the spring, tighter will make it open later and close sooner, but in my experience it'll cause a bit of flutter at low load/rpm anyway. I've also got some input into this whole no bov causing turbo wear, never had an issue on any on my turbos HOWEVER, I got my R33 GTST with 200k kms on it, with from what I can see still has the original turbo, no lateral shaft play but has about 4-5mm of play in and out which to me seems like a worn thrust bearing from years (100-150k kms?) of turbo flutter running no bov, so maybe there is some truth to it in the long run. But that'll never stop me loving the Stutututu while I have the car.   OP just wants to know if he can run a atmo vented BOV with no major issues and the answer is YES, plenty of people do it, there's no harm in installing it and seeing how it runs before spending $$$ on an aftermarket ecu, last time I bought a Nistune it was $2400 for install and a tune , unsure of todays prices but you get me. Crazy money to spend just to fix the minor inconvenience of stalling that can be overcome by letting the revs come down to near idle before putting the clutch in or a little bit of throttle to avoid it. You're better off leaving the ecu and tune for after a bigger turbo/injectors have been installed to take full advantage of the tune and get your moneys worth.   Let OP have his Whoosh sound without trying to break his bank haha
    • I see you missed the rest of the conversation where they have benefits, but nothing to do with avoiding breaking turbos, which is what the aftermarket BOV made all the fan boys, tuners, and modders believe was the only purpose for them...
    • But they do so for the other reasons to have a compressor bypass. It's in the name.
