Rb26/30 Help

Hey guys,

I've searched and i can't seem to find what i'm after, so i thought i'd ask.

I was looking at buying a RB26DETT to put into my R34 GTT, But after looking around and talking with people. I've been swayed into looking at 26/30 builds. Only downside to this is i have no idea about them, the benefits or what is needed to build one/cost of it all?

If someone could explain the benefits of doing this and rough list of parts/costing. Not chasing huge power at the moment but down the track that will be the goal.

Cheers in advice

Use the NEO head.

NVCS Yo!

Really? From what i've been reading most people go against using the NEO head? All in favor of the 26 :O!

and way better comp comp ratio with stock pistons.

op, you have a lot of reading to figure out what you want.

I know there is alot of research left to do, but i can't seem to find any kind of basic guide/build threads out there i can see that would help me to a point. I'd say i'm aiming for around the 300-350 rwkw mark, being that the egine won't be in the car for awhile i'll have change to change mind and forge internals if i want to go down that path. Just need a push in the right direction to get the ball rolling

Have you tried the search function or Google?

Here is the guide (in the very first pinned thread in the RB30 section):http://stevenwelsh.site.net.au/RB30_DOHC.pdf

and the third pinned thread in the RB30 guide is the RB30/26 guide.

Then at the top of the forced induction section you can see results including what was done for RB30/25 and RB30/26

Why dont you work your original engine for your power goal?

Keeps the car legal, im sure your local police may not be too happy finding out its a RB30 with a 26 head in a GTT.

For the power your chasing its not worth the effort, use what you already have.

Its Tasmania, We don't have defect stations ever ;) I figure i will want more power down the track its just a starting point, unless you can push the same amount of big power out of a 25neo as a 30/26

It doesn't cost a huge amount more to build a 30 as opposed to anything else, it's mainly sourcing the new stuff that's different and the machining that adds up. You end up adding a whole heap of extra stuff as you go.

My engine (which is still not finished) would have cost me $15000 I'd reckon. A lot of that has been upgrades that you would do on any performance build though- new dumps, new clutch, all new genuine hoses, new timing belt tensioners, etc, etc. The list is never ending!

No disrespect intended but I would learn a bit more about your car first before committing to a 30 build. Spend money on upgrades that can be transferred over to the 30 once you build it (turbo, injectors, fuel pump etc). Once you're used to that power then go the next step. Totally my opinion but it's your money!

^ agreed 100%. You always end up spending money here/there.

IMO as others have said, stick with the 2.5ltr for now... Make your 300-350rwkw on it. Put decent suspension, brakes and so on into it and learn how to drive it.

While in the process of learning how to drive it with 300-350rwkw, build that 3ltr bottom end while you wait for it to pop (which will likely come eventually). All the engine ancillary parts will transfer with regard to injectors/ECU and so on if you think and plan ahead.

The ONLY thing would be to buy say a GT3076 for now so that it is not too laggy, once you have a 3ltr then put a larger turbo on there. You're only talking ~$1000 extra expenditure but if you get 1-2 years outta the 2.5ltr and so on, then you've had 1-2 years of a really bloody decent set-up with great all round performance and good power as opposed to putting a big turbo on first and it being laggy and you end up hating it.

in my 12 years experience, my opinion now days is f**k it.. get a good stock motor and put quality supporting mods on it and quality tuning with e85 and make good strong reliable power.

ive built motor and blown them up, due to the silly little things that can go wrong, so financially im better off running an OEM motor with mods.

my car is proof of that, stock RB30 with 26 head, all supporting mods. 412 rwkw on 22 psi and it gets thrashed...HARD

The only downside to E85 tune would be the lack of places that sell it close by to me. As far as i'm aware the closest place to me is 2-3hours away. So for now anything i do will be 98 pump tune. So you also think i should stick with the 25det neo and just support mods on that? The engine sits standard at the moment with just shy of 160XXX Kms on it.

Yep get a Nistune or Link, bigger turbo, injectors, afm if necessary, fmic, fuel pump, exhaust and a good tune. If you want an RB30 later you can transfer the head and all the other bits.

    • Gday gents, been having a issue for a little while now and have come for some advice. car is a r34 gt-four (awd na sedan), when taking tight corners such as car parks and roundabouts feels as if the diff is locked on both ends, have literally snapped 3 shafts and issues doing my head in. Car has 60k klm so mechanical failure in the diff is unlikely but possible, been to 2 very reputable shops near where I live and both have had no luck. What would be my process of trying to find the cause? not too interested in pulling apart transfer cases just to find nothing, have these cars come out with electronic BS that might cause this? not too mechanically inclined so any information will probably be passed on an expert thanks in advance
    • I realise that perhaps no one will in Japan will see this, but why not try anyway. What are you driving in Japan? I have a (sniff (;_;) ) 2018 Toyota Corolla Sports 1.2L Turbo 6MT. It has a class trailing 116PS and 190Nm power/torque... 😐 Why? Because back in 2018 there was only 1(?) manual transmission car available from Toyota which was the 86 (not including the Mark X GRMN 2015/2019), so when they released this one I had to support them by getting one in the hope that they would continue to release more manual models. As it turns out they released the Supra, Yaris, and GR Corolla all with manual transmissons after that. Mods are RSR Ti2000 Down springs, HKS panel filter, 18x8.5" Weds Sports SA-20R Face F with 215/40R18 Toyota Proxes Sport tyres. Eventually a full exhaust, boost controller sub-con, Blitz turbocharger and aero parts will be added before it gets replaced...
    • It looks proper factory fitted. It's exactly how I would do it. Well done 👍
