18 Jan. I suggested they will be selling Pete a crank trigger to sort out timing scatter......

Yeah Ben, I remember that, maybe it is coming back to bite me,haha

I remain positive and look forward to getting it all done :)

Many people have still had timing scatter issues with the Haltech Platinum Pro ECU and ended up going with a crank trigger kit to resolve the issue. Although expensive in some way, it is practically insurance for your motor at higher power builds when most of the time you want to be pushing the car hard and don't want to risk the timing scatter causing issues with a tightly tuned motor.

There is a really detailed thread on here about the issue somewhere, I'm sure someone can link you or you'll be able to search it :).

And for what it's worth, a brand new CAS would be logical on a build like this if you aren't using a new one and no crank trigger kit.

Sounds like u got the short end of the straw, I hope you get it all sorted out soon.

Shit happens mate, all close to being done, went for a drive today, it is a fun car right now :)

If you have read the thread you know what I am doing is viewed by many as a dud and the HP level is crap. I was never after massive HP.

BUT if I wanted to, when I finish what I am doing I could work the head, different cams, a mad turbo , and an E85 tune = bigger HP top end and stuff my car up for me = :(

How the legality of using an older engine in your car?

I think that's the question.

??

Was that ever discussed when they were taking your money? ?

older engines are fine.

But, the emissions gear must be that of the car or engine, whichever is newer.

Eg, old v8 into new commodore, has to have Commodores emissions gear.

Ls1 into hq, has to have emissions gear from the car Ls1 came from.

Including the restrictor for unleaded petrol in the tank filler neck.

That was the rule a couple of years ago.

Don't know if still current.

I am sure just about anyone could have done a better job building this car than I have, but it is my car and I do not worry about the money being wasted, I am happy the way it is coming together, no problem :)

The car drives "much better" than it did as a 2.6 and once the changes are made it will be a very tough all rounder, quick and a beautiful R34GTR, what else could a bloke want :)

always will drive better.

The 30(or 32 in your case) provides the bottom end so desperately needed for daily driving.

It really does transform the car.

Soon find out Luke, trying to use the best components to keep it quiet and emissions correct and then I am going to have the car engineered when it is all finished, maybe throwing more $ away, but it will let me know what I have to look at changing.

Going to put a CAI pod cover, quality Cat and whatever else is recommended to get it right :/

If the performance suffers, so be it :(

From what I could find out , if you "can" change the DB of your muffler with a flick of a switch or whatever and it goes over the legal 90DB , it is illegal .

I think I have a good exhaust system as it was so much quieter when I had it installed, not sure how the 4" or 3.5" dump and the new 5" Venom Cat will all work in together, so I will wait to put a DB tester on and if possible an emission test before I have an engineer look at it.. Maybe I might have to change the muffler but I will wait before I start dumping parts and replacing them.

When I insured my car I included the modifications

It's going to be louder with a 4"dump mate

Yeah figured that :(

I have a feeling the bloke that had my car gutted the Cat and I am hoping the new one might quieten it down a bit ?

Maybe I will go with the 3.5" and all the way through and see how that goes ?

First I will wait until I get the car back from the repairs :/

Doesn't Racepace make a 'legal' db 4" system? even if it's only close, it's going to be subtle enough

I reckon close may be about the best outcome ?

But when I am ready I will ask whoever is doing it, what should I do ?

I don't aim for legal anymore when it comes to exhaust. A friend of mine swapped back to the standard system in his S15 and only passed by 1dB.

bit of a joke really.

Rules I follow:

aim for quiet enough to not arouse police attention while idling at an RBT

Quiet enough to not wake the neighbors as they can report you to EPA using the new app

If you can't chat to your passenger while idling in traffic or cruising at 120 it's too loud.

Don't drive in the city on Friday or Saturday nights. Don't be so stupid as to cruise through Kings Cross

most importantly:

No. f**king. Cannons.

It is possible to have a quiet system that makes good power. External wastegate vented to atmosphere will help tremendously.

just out of curiosity would a thick walled exhaust pipe be quieter?

    • Yeah I've had too many issues with knock off's on the BMW's. I don't want to do a job twice or more because the parts are shit.
    • I read this and thought "ah! I will do this scissor jack on the tow point thing!" I just use my floor/low profile/costco jack and lift the car up by the tow hook itself, then slide jack stands under. Never thought about using scissor into floor jack combo :p
    • Well, my new WMI system took much longer to finalize. I actually missed my dyno appointment last Friday and lost my 150$ deposit. I'll be going back in the next week or two.  To sum it up. I only kept the AEM tank from my old setup. I replaced the AEM pump with a higher flow/pressure ProMeth 30GPH pump. I also swapped over to a 6AN low pressure feed line to the pump from the tank. There's also a pressure switch you cannot see on the pump high pressure line.    This is feeding 6x 200CC direct port nozzles and 1x 500CC Pre Throttle body nozzle. All fittings are Swagelok, because well why not. I also have a 300PSI pressure sensor up front.    I now have my Haltech ECU controlling everything. I start my pump with a basic relay at 5PSI and deadhead it. I then PWM a 3000CC methanol Injector to control flow starting around 10psi. The pressure switch in the trunk, along with my tank level are safeties before I ever get to 10PSI, and then I use my pressure sensor upfront as a secondary safety to cut the WMI and corrections in case the injector blocks or a line ruptures.  Wish me luck on the dyno!
    • So, I'm back with bad news. There's no jack long enough on this planet that will reach the front subframe. If by some chance there is, it would weigh 200lb's.  I purchased a long reach jack... The damn thing weighted 120lb's and was massive. Didn't even come close, was still short at least a foot. It was a pain, but I brought it back. Next I decided HA! No problem, I'll get an Extra long reach jack. Well, I couldn't lift the box... It must have weighed 160LB's and luckily there was an open box in store. I took measurement and was still nowhere close.  Sadly I've lost hope and have accepted defeat.
    • Thanks for that tip, niZmO_Man. I think the battery is OK. It's quite a new one, but I'll check. Last time I needed a new battery, everything electronic was fine, except that there wasn't enough current to turn over the starter. I decided to order one of the partial AV system translation CDs from Car Audio Workshop in NZ. That might have some effect, or help me diagnose the date problem. 🤞
