hey trident if you don't mind me asking what is your postcode? I imagine you will be getting all the under bonnet mats sent to your place then sending them out individually to each person. At least then people can get a fairly good idea on the interstate postage. I think you can even get quotes on the Australia post website too :)

Wasn't thinking along those line Ty1, was hoping to get the supplier to do this. But If I have to I will.

I'm actually trying to avoid handling deposits and funds etc if I can - will do it if I'm backed into a corner, but not really looking forward to it. So wait and see first.

Latest email from the supplier:

Hi Danny

The best way to go about is for you to take the payments, and just do one transfer to us once it's ready to go.
Then you give us a list with the breakdown of pickup/postage, and a secret code for the guys that are picking them up - so we know they're who they say.
We do need payment in full for something like this at the time of the order, though.

As for postage, that's something we can't really calculate until they've arrived to us via container into Melbourne.
Hard to say how they're being wrapped/supplied from Nissan at this stage, and if they'll require further wrapping once they arrive here.

Regards,

Daniel

How do other group buys work??? Do people take funds??? Feel like I'm being backed into a corner - I have asked the supplier if there is another way?

I can open up a bank account and take funds and pay for all, thats no problem>>>>but:

  • people have to take a leap of faith and trust
  • and as soon as money is involved it gets serious

I might wait for the supplier to get back to me first and see......but [another but] I have a feeling I know what they are going to say.

If they insist on the same method - and for them it makes good business sense to do so - then I will send every person a PM with details.

Kingtube I have to contact each person on the list and confirm that they are still in, and for 16 I would think that the $239 is the price [but I have asked for confirmation on price because the VSpec II ones could be cheaper being smaller].

Once I get a reply from the supplier I will PM everyone. The first PM will be asking if you are still interested. The second PM [based on the response to the first] will be banking and my personal details [trying to give surety] plus the banking details etc.

Ok, thanks for the vote guys......I'll work with that then and guess I will be handling your hard earned cash [well sort of anyway].

I'll begin contacting everyone via PM and see who is still interested etc. then start getting payments [once price is confirmed]. Postage we will handle after the fact sorry.....would like to be more positive on it but we will have to rely on what the supplier says when they know themselves.

I like your optimism that it might be cheaper because its smaller lol :P

    • Selling my TE37SLs since I've switched to smaller wheels.  They're for sale in Japan but it's pretty simple to send them overseas; USA excluded, since JPPost isn't sending there at the moment. They're currently listed on yahoo auction and will be shipped in Japan with the tires if they sell here. • The alloy coolant reservoir has a sight glass, so as long as I can see coolant in the sight glass it's GTG, as for PS, it isn't anything catastrophic if it gets low, and as it hasn't lost a drop since I have owned the car I cannot see it being an issue, even after putting the "big block" 2.5 in....LOL The only time it gets slightly messy is at oil changes, as the oil filter sits above the frame, and I need to use a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off to catch the flow when loosening the filter
    • Good on you for taking on the job, but it is a big one. Even if you have bolt on manifold and turbo, you will need: Post throttle pressure source to boost controller to wastegate (and FPR, and ECU/MAP sensor) Pre throttle pressure source to top of BOV(s) Oil feed - you can take that from the standard port in the middle of the block Oil return to block under the turbo - this is much trickier than it seems to route a decent/wide pipe past the manifold. You really can't use rubber hose because it is way too hot there, and also the oil out of the turbo core is a bit frothy so it needs to have a decent diameter Water feed - you can take that from the standard port in the rear of the block. Water return - mine runs to a T into the heater box return, just make sure you don't create a high point making bleeding hard. All of those lines should use 200 series style teflon braided hose with heat shielding because everything needs to be routed past the manifold. Also a turbo beanie is a really good idea to minimise the chance of the car catching fire (under bonnet lining in particular) You also need to decide a cam cover breathing solution as well, will you vent externally via a catch can (probably illegal) or return to the intake (plumbing required and can oil up everything over time) Keep in mind the intake and exhaust piping in the engine bay will be custom so you either need to be able to fab ally and steel or have someone you can get a car that isn't running to. Get the wideband fitting welded into the dump pipe at the same time. Also, just my opinion, a screamer pipe attracts attention and doesn't add power, I'd plumb it back if you want to be allowed to keep the car on the road. BTW do you know anything about how healthy the motor is, and what power you are targeting? Doubling or tripling the factory power on an unknown motor is a little risky. Also fuel system will need some attention (pumps, high current hanger, direct power and earth feed, injectors etc)
