Hallo,

Yes I have a stupid RB that spits power steering belts when I smash the limiter at 8600rpm, clearly at a RPM Nissan engineers never envisaged a pleb spec RB25 would reach. RB26 motors don't seem to spit belts as often as they run a 4 rib belt, where as a R33 RB25 uses a 3 rib (I moved all my R33 ancillaries onto the R34 RB25 NEO motor).

I know there are options such as deleting the power steering setup altogether or running one of those FPG power steering replacement kits (very sexual) but I'm not keen on either option - mainly due to effort required & cost.

I can't recall when Ross released their power steering idler kit - however it might just be the solution I'm after. It essentially just adds an idler on the power steering bent to stop the silly deflection at high RPM. In theory it seems to make sense and "should" stop power steering belts spitting off when I smash the limiter OR just rev out the car at high RPM.

I'm more so keen on:

  • thoughts, if this will actually solve my problem or just a pretty looking engine ornament (stares virtually at @GTSBoy)
  • actual installs of it, I can't seem to find any installed photos of it on the web
  • Is it actually worth the $370 or so

Thanks everyone!

It doesn't seem to be a popular item, hence I was curious on feedback

Guess I'll order it soon, hopefully have it sorted before All Jap Day in May.

I guess it's one of those things that doesn't happen to everyone but it isn't unheard of either.

Never personally had a problem with any of the 26s doing it but if it ever happens it'll be the first thing I'd fit.

You have a lower chance of the belt exiting off the pump as it's a 4 rib, for whatever reason Nissan decided to go to a 3 rib on the R33 GTS-t, but then back to the 4 rib on the R34 GT-t.

Maybe then decided to use a 3 rib pump to pay homage to R-3-3 LOL...

Let's see if it actually does anything!

Another option is to just decrease my limiter but that also means I would need to grab 5th gear down the straight, not too keen on that.

I like to kiss the limiter in 4th and be ready to coast then ease on the brakes.

Installed, haven't started or run the car yet.

Will do so once I've dropped/changed the oil, spanner/bolt check on everything on it.

Ignore the oil mist, it was from the last event when I ran the car without a seal on the oil cap. I thought the cap was a bit loose, but never really clicked.

The kit looks/feels quite good too, just fitting it with the factory fan & shroud in place was a bit fun. I dabbed a bit of loctite on everything too.

Just do a long smoky burnout on the street. Cheaper and easier than breaking it at track and just as good for testing the idler and the gearbox.

Bonus, if you get it confiscated, then you can stop bitching about it.

soz to break it to you, I'm not a roll racer or drag racer.

I really need to find a new hobby that doesn't involve this car and spending money.

    • Ahhh, I need the whole head unit. I definitely needed to roll back through and review your setup, ha ha! Neat setup they have going on. I just need a full double din head unit. But I want good and responsive. I might have to review what the likes of pioneer have out these days.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
