Diagnosing a misfire. Anyone have experience with these kinds of coils? When i got the car, these were already in here. Wholesale Ignition Coil Pack, 6 Pieces, RB20DET Series 1 R33 for R32 RB25DET RB26DETT 22433-60U01 22433-60U02 not an actual picture, but they look exactly like this. 

Right, so unfortunately there was a time aftermarket coils became cheap and readily available, but many of them are junk, including the common yellow and red ones.  Splitfires (purple) seem to be OEM quality, or go OEM (or OEM from another car, there are lots of kits these days_.

2 screws each in the 4 screw bracket. I think that was because the front and rear brackets are identical.

If you have an aftermarket ECU then 100% as above go R35 coils.

there’s probably a couple of simple questions like:

- What are the other mods?

- when we’re the spark plugs changed?

- what type of spark plug and what gap?

 

Yes ran the red ones in R33 for about 80000km, after my OME ones failed, as they were cheap.

Eventually one failed and then went over to Spitfires and haven't looked back.

Now been in the motor for around 350000km still going

Chucked the red ones in a box somewhere in a box as a sacrifice to the Gods of speed !

Out of interest, why change to a different setup (brackets, plug change etc)? I only run moderate power (up to 400kw) but OEM/splitfires have been fine for me in a couple of cars

For me the cost of R35 coils including bracket was actually cheaper (and easier) than sourcing genuine OEM units. Splitfires seem to be around $700 and the cost of R35 kit was approx $1000 (on special). I assumed that a newer coil would be better for spark and provide headroom for future power increases.

So Duncan is taking the conservative approach, being that for his usage requirements, staying with the original design coils is sufficient. And, if, like him and myself (and my requirements are even lower than D's) you already have good OEM coils or Splitfires then there is no point in paying for an upgrade.

I am of the opinion though that, if I were to suffer coil death on any of my Splitfires, such that I needed to spend ~$700 to replace the lot, then I would definitely just stump up the extra to convert to modern pencil coils and buy headroom (that I might not need) but also just blast the bejeezus out of the mixture every time it sparks, making damn sure that it burns nicely. It's an opportunity to move the design of everything forward a notch, upgrade the coilpack loom to new wires and connectors, etc etc. All the things that you might not do if you just like-for-like replace.

You don't even need aftermarket ECU/Nistune, the factory ECU and R35 coils will not misfire if you're within the bounds of the stock tune. Someone local to me has tried this and he did not have misfires with the stock tune and R35 coils before switching to a Link. He did have a no-start but it was due to horrendous fuel pump wiring and possibly a dead fuel pump.

The ignitors are starting to fail with age as well now and the looms are getting old and brittle as well so it fixes all the problems at the same time 

Thanks guys, i'm getting a misfire and think its those red coils. It's too bad because they look decent, but i might have to shell out the money for the spitfires or the R35s... Now to decide which one to get.. If i got the R35 ones, am i going to have to get the whole kit? The bracket, coil boot covers, and the harness?

Yes you’ll need the full kit

The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.

Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
