Sorry but it is True.

I went for RWC at local Garage to swap rego into my name, Received the all clear inspection report and went to pay at Shopfront.

Sorry Buddy you need a vehicle Identity check. So booked it in and went to Dickson for a straight forward ID check.

Sorry buddy everyone has been TOLD that ALL IMPORTS MUST be INSPECTED at Dickson. That's the law now. Make another appointment you have the wrong sort.

Made the appointment and passed.

All imports need to go through Dickson - no other way.. even if you have the purple plate (Or whatever the colour was). It was around the time when the child safety harnesses had to be installed for each seat, instead of one in the middle. Dickson are not that bad - you get your shopping list and you fix it up, then remove it all again and put your mods on.

Anyone know of a paint repair shop in ACT that is reputable?

I guess it points out the unfortunate thing that buying Andy's car would put you in the same situation he is in currently in VIC.

Best thing to do would be to swap it back to as stock as possible and just get your shopping list.

Thank god that my 34 is completely stock.

My shopping list will be

-Degrees

-Change tires

Yes mate - Rego'd in the ACT for 10years before I bough it with ACT rego still on it.

Changed over to me 2 months ago now.

It was also Imported into the ACT and the Compliance etc was done in the ACT by a very well respected and known engineer.

Not that bodgey bloke :P

Jeremy, how much you willing to spend?

$1,000'ish give or take. No idea on how much touch ups are.

I'd like to get both mirrors repainted and chip on the right side of my front panel. Bonnet will need a look at, but may consider a new vented bonnet.

yeah for that pretty much any painter will do. Fuller brothers in belco did a fantastic job of matching my paint (a bitch of a job) and i'm still pretty happy with it. I would go there again for a standard colour for sure.

In saying that i'll be getting the GTR resprayed @ prestige in hume at some point.

Jez go have a talk to some painters or smash repairs. Have a look at their workshops, see if you can get some idea of quality of work.

When I had my rear quarter panel beaten I also got them to respray front and rear bars. Probably ended up having half the car resprayed. They did an awesome job on my car, no issues matching the paint.

This was at David Hand Smash Repairs in Fyshwick.

I had 4 quotes done. DHSR weren't the cheapest, or the most expensive. But I'm glad they did the work

Mirrors and a chip?

How big is the chip?

If you have plenty of free time atm you could do a lot of the prep and save money.

Also $1000 buys a lot of nice tools............

at a ruff guess I'd say it has the standard graze marks on both mirror housings

bonnet with fades/scaly clear coat and stone chips

What your paying for mainly is the effort in the prep of the bonnet

back to metal, spray putty, rub back, undercoat, rub back, coat, clear and polishing.

If your charging around $80 - $100 an hour for labour plus paint (cheap) it adds up.

Not many DIY people around Mik

Minor works and maintenance is easier to DIY. Were basically lazy when it becomes time consuming. Blame the NOW generation

Is there a reason why you're changing to prestige? Weren't fully happy or cheaper quote at prestige? Belco sounds nice and close if they get the job done.

I was thinking to call about and getting quotes and such. But, from my experience on here, not many people will let just any professional touch their pride and joy - so it's almost safe to say that if Richard went to X you'd be going to a good shop. My paint isn't anything fancy (Just red haha) so I'm hoping it's not going to be that hard of a job.

Mirrors have the clear coat all crumbled and faded (clear coat gone). There is a big chip (under 5c piece size.. probably half a 5c piece) right down to the metal and the bonnet has some fade marks/clear coat starting to peal. I'll get some pics and upload them here given I'll have to do it for a quote. DIY is deffo not my style, pretty much what Richard said haha! I don't mind doing the oil - that's fun. But when it gets to something like this - I'm way out of depth. I also don't have a garage to work on the car as easily.

Prestige is quite a bit more expensive. I'm going to go there because of what i want done. I thought if im going to spend the money for a full respray i may as well get the best to do it.

fingers crossed the 32 will be ready by the weekend with front, rear bars all looking new

keen to put the new steering wheel on and I got some really nice seat covers to preserve the front seats in top condition

windscreen is being replaced tomorrow arvo as well with original (arial in the centre) - im chuffed.

Prestige is about on the mark for higher quality work but you can wait a while :(

for me it's the price of peace of mind and knowing if there is an issue it will be sorted

Although I must say they are not mechanics and farm that work out to others if you've had a big bingle - that may cause issues.

But as far as painting goes I'm real happy with the finished product

I'd check David Hand out as it's likely to cost less and be a good job too

When I was looking around a few people recommended them.

Yeah Jeremy, i was thinking just the mirrors (no big flat areas to stuff up) and a dot with a paintbrush on the chip.

But the bonnett is a whole different ball game.

Totally.

I wouldnt even try myself with your bonnett as its probly going to be too hard to get the flat flat sanding etc....

You need skills for that stuff.

    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
    • Welcome Adam. Car looks great!
    • "With a 1.5-WAY, the LSD is effective only during acceleration."
    • Well it wasn't as easy as I thought.... and it also wasn't in my original manual which I did end up finding. They discuss the process in the Nismo catalogue though and it requires slight machining. Page 145.  NISMO PARTS CATALOGUE 2020
    • I'm an idiot, my intercooler is rated for 1000hp. I had clicked on the wrong product. Knowing the delta P would be nice, but I'm doubtful I'll do it. Now as for an EMAP, that would be great and I'll get around to it eventually but from my findings in my last post, I'm considering a turbo swap now.
