I know it's not a Skyline, but after selling my R32 (3rd one I have owned haha) I decided to try a GD WRX which was definitely not the car for me, So I recently sold that and bought this....

1999 Mitsubishi Evolution VI (6) RS-2

She's basically a stock Grade 4 except for a HKS turbo timer, HKS Titanium exhaust and HKS Hipermax-Pro coilovers.

She arrives early next month!

R33 Vspec with some nice little mods, nothing major and just 85kms.

Wow, i take it that pic is after a detail.... but that looks brand new and in pristine condition! Cleanest one i have seen in a pic. Well done!

Does it drive as good as it looks? And who did you import through if you dont mind me asking! Nice!!

lol, sorry my lazy typing. it's got 85,000kms. yep it does drive very well, very nice interior too.

dizzle, car was bought by Mark Hocking of mytrading.

Nice, i to went through Mark.. glad to see he is still producing the goods!! Awesome car mate, congrats.. u must be rapt!

The first pics of my new baby.

Yep, I know it's auto, but I'm allowed. I'm 30, 2 kids, and drive 80k's a day in sydney traffic :-)

Besides, give's me a reason to winge to the Minister of Finance and Anything to do with Cars, for a GTR to muck around with on weekends.

Congrats on the new toy Bobby, I saw that one come through on the mailing list

Thanks Nick,

Can't wait to get it here. I was tossing up between a V35 and an R33 Series 3 GTR, but the daily driver thing made me go for this.

Seeing Barons GTR above though makes me have second thoughs :-)

Arrghh!!

Can't believe you still take cars to Crystal in Chatswood. Don't get me wrong though - if I wanted more scratches in my paint from dirty old rags that's my number 1 destination.

lol, I don't take the 32 there (and never have since the paint work).... enough said. actually when I'm too lazy to wash the 32 I drive all the way to SCW on broadway!!

they actually did a decent job for me on this car though. I only went there as it was massively filthy (sent on a truck from SA).

Hey beer baron,

first off car looks great...

How were your dealings with mark hocking? have you used his services b4 to import a car? i was curious as in a couple editions of HPI they pretty much say he is the best there is when it comes to importing a car from japan.

Also curious to what the end product cost you to bring over ? if you dont mind listing the total cost to get in up and running in NSW

So now you have a R32 and R33 GTR on a nice cool sunday morning which car gets first choice to hit the street?

T

hey mate, yes i've dealt with mark before and never had any problems. he's been a friend of mine for a couple of years now so of course I wouldn't say any different but having been with him to auctions in japan i know he is good at what he does. no doubt about it.

as for that sunday morning question it's a tough one. yesterday I drove to work and took the lexus. after work I went home and was heading out to dinner with some friends. I thought about the 32, but decided on the 33 instead. it looks a bit less boy racer, and is quieter, and has softer suspension so is much easier to drive around town. but if I was heading up through the hills instead of to crows nest for dinner then I would be in the 32 no doubt. but they are very different cars. my 32 is extensively modified, the 33 is fairly standard.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
