I think they did pretty well with the i30n Fastback. Looks a bit nicer than the hatchback. It has a bit of that Mercedes coupe swoop to it. -
Butterfly valve on exhaust?
soviet_merlin replied to rolibaf45's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Spam bot shenanigans? Same post from 2014: https://www.cumminsforum.com/threads/butterfly-valve-on-exhaust.1342561/ Yeah, it sticks a sneaky link into the quoted post. Though that original post looks like a real person. I hope he reconsidered it since. -

4 seconds 0-100kmh is serious business! I don't think anyone would see that coming standing at the lights next to you -
I can see where you are coming from now. If you have to do daily duties with the Skyline with a kid, or soon to be kids, it is always going to be shit. This is where having things like lane keep assist and collision detection are invaluable. Because kids are distracting and can't and don't want to have to focus on the road at all times. Parking in busy school zones with soccer mums around would be pretty shit as well. I would hate all of that so much. Do you have street parking around you? I'm thinking you need to buy another normal car for daily duties. Your wife can drive the Tiguan and you use the third car for daily duties with the kids. And leave the Skyline purely for enjoyment. And if it all still sucks, go get that BMW

R32 GTR clutch (twin plate va tripple plate)
soviet_merlin replied to timmy94's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yeah, I'd be curious to know what's going on mechanically and why it's different. I do want to clarify what I was saying about the Nismo twin plates though. It's definitely not silent. It's just that in an everyday situation, say in the city with even just a little bit of traffic around, it very much blends into the background. But for example at night when it's quiet it is definitely very noticeable. We came home the other night and my partner got out and went "Is that normal? Is that your clutch?", referring to the clonking and chatter from the clutch. IMO a small price to pay for how nice it is to drive. -
I then also wonder is how it's handled in modern performance cars. Because surely they have to conform to all the current emissions rules.

R32 GTR clutch (twin plate va tripple plate)
soviet_merlin replied to timmy94's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I want to agree with Chris and Neill here and it makes me wonder whether you should give the Nismo Super Coppermix Twin a try. I run it in my wagon and it's fine for daily driving. There's a tiny bit of chatter at idle and low rpm but really not much. Not enough for someone who doesn't pay attention to notice. You almost have to open the door and lean out to hear it. And that's in a grandpa spec car so it's not being masked by a loud exhaust or anything. Huge improvement over the single plate clutch that was in there before. I don't miss the heavy clutch pedal feel one bit. I wonder whether the gearbox matters as well. The R34 GTRs that I have seen tend to sound like a bag of bolts in the dryer at idle. Does it make a difference whether it is the 5 speed or the 6 speed Getrag behind it? -
Are you going to change it? @The Bogan mentioned the racecraft ones at some point and it has been on my list ever since. Someone pulled up next to me at the lights once to tell me that there was something wrong with my car because it smells terrible. Made me wonder whether stepping up the cat would help.

That's A Nice Looking Volvo Mate.......
soviet_merlin replied to Paramour's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
The other day at the shops someone came up and asked what the wagon was. He also asked whether they were quick. Turns out he had stopped next to one at the lights one day in his AMG. Apparently he couldn't keep up though once the lights switched. If it was one of you guys you clearly made an impression -
Looking forward to seeing you drive this in anger over here in Sydney! I bought tickets for the WTAC session on the Saturday. We'll be rooting for you. Didn't even know this was coming up before you mentioned it. https://worldtimeattack.com/

This coming up this weekend! Perfect weather as well. Looking forward to it -
I hear you. Was looking at tyre comparisons at some point and it's such a pain. And even the back to back comparisons that are done are just a bit arbitrary. I have actually been keeping track of what people are saying about their tyre choices on the forums here. To get a bit of an idea of what to get next time around. Funnily enough @GTSBoy described the AD09s as quiet when he first put them on the car. I think in comparison to RS4Ss. You are getting wheel spin on dry roads? That's pretty nuts. 400kw must just hit differently. At this point I'd likely stick with Bridgestone Potenza Sports. Probably not a comparison or helpful though. At 260kw I have no grip issues, even in the wet. And the tyres are super quiet. I think they ship them on pretty powerful cars but they are all modern with proper traction control and all that.

How do you work something like this out? Do you strap a gopro on the car? Genuinely curious

Thank you for posting here as well Tao! I'm not following social media so I very much appreciate it. Though in some ways I'm not sure if it is good that you keep posting these promising results You are the voice of temptation.
