  1. johnny, I will be shocked if the EVC 6 properly tuned is any better than an EVC 3 properly tuned. they both seem to use the same hardware to me. maybe the software has improved enough to make some improvement but I'm a little dubious.
  2. I am 6'2" and have owned: 2 X 32 GTR 1 X 32 GTST 2 X 33 GTR 1 X 34 GTR and I can tell you the 32 GTR is the most comfortable for me. particularly after fitting 34 GTR seats which seem to have the seat base a little lower than the stock 32 GTR seats. only the 32s have height and reach adjustable steering columns. the 33 was the least confortable for me as they have a big factory wheel which cuts down on the knee room and it's not reach adjustable. the 34 is not too bad. tell him DO NOT buy a car with a sunroof. in my 32 GTST which had a sunroof I struggled a little with the stock seats. It was better once I fitted GTR seats but still marginal, and my head touched with a helmet on. Being so tall he will struggle for head room in any skyline. probably the best option is get a 32 GTR or 34 GTR or GTT. if he gets the 32 or 34 T then fit R34 GTR seats, or get custom seats that are mounted low and well back. also get a steering wheel spacer to bring the wheel closer to him, that will give him more knee room behind the sterring wheel. if he's a bit tubby as well as tall he will have even more drama. sadly most sports cars are not a happy place for the ample sized gentleman
  3. Bye dear friend....
  4. so what are you going to do with the cube that was the old car? po mo art? lol.
  5. I use Defi BF oil pressure gauge. very good. since I have the defi BF oil pres, oil temp, boost and fuel pres. they are very useful. You can adjust the warning level for each gauge, and there is a buzzer and light for each warning. and it can record the movement of all gauges. after 2 laps I pull in and hit play. you can tell when you are on the brakes or cornering as the car is off boost, pay close attention to oil pressure in these moments to ensure it didn't drop too much. if all is well go out and enjoy. I also run a big trust oil cooler and the filter mount it comes with has lots of handy points to install the defi sensors. they are a snack to install DIY too if you like.
  6. noice! GTRJason on here has them on his 32 GTR. that thing has some serious power, (well over 400awkw) and dog box etc and the times I've been in it it really pulled up nicely. he has been able to run 17s with them too.
  7. basically what you need to do is get the velo side mounts, and some sliders (cobra ones are good, and well priced). then you need to make a base frame that bolts to the floor of the car and allows you to bolt the sliders to the base frame. then the side mounts to the sliders, then the seat to the side mounts. any reasonably competent welder can make the base frame for you.
  8. make a police report by calling the police assistance line. make sure you stress the fact that he admitted fault. then sadly since you don't have an insurance company to go to bat you will need to either engage a lawyer or DIY. so I would suggest DIY. first go and get one or two quote for the damage. you'll then need to write a letter of demand and send it to the driver (I really hope you took down all his details, licence number, name, address, phone). basically telling him that you have got 2 quotes for the damage caused to your vehicle and you believe he is liable to pay for the repairs. he will then most likely forward that letter on to his insurance company. now, they may do the right thing and pay, or they may see you as an easy target and refuse to pay. if they do that you will have one hell of a fight to get money out of them. at that point you'll need to decide is it worth spending lots of time and lots of stress to try and recover at most a couple of thousand dollars?
  9. well RB26 has 2mm longer stroke. where that 2mm comes from i'm not sure off the top of my head (don't know much about RB25) but something is different...
  10. my opinion is tomei dumps. they are beautiful and everyone I know that has used them has had great results. one or two even went from HKS or HKS copy dumps to the tomei ones and found improvement. they are not the cheapest though.
  11. my advice. spend the money on a top quality oil cooler kit. use good oil (motul chrono is hard to toss) and maybe overfill a little (personally I think 1l is too much, but it's up to you). also get a decent oil pressure guage with warning and recording feature (this way you can start it recording, do 2 laps, come in and play it back and watch to see if and when oil pressure drops it shoul be above about 4 bar for 90% of the lap). my logic is those things will be needed with or without a built motor so doing them no does not cost you anything. I figure if you are running under 300awkw you 'should' be ok. the other guys are right too, given the big labour cost in removing and re-fitting an engine it makes sense to do it along with lots of other gear which really blows out the cost. edit: your mechanic is spot on though, sump baffles are a very good idea in any track driven GTR but the cost is just a little bit prohibitive.
  12. plus if you tell johnny at unique that the beer baron sent you he will give you a further $5 discount if you are interstate, or 1 free bottle of beer if you pick-up with any set of big fk off brakes purchased. and if he doesn't you tell him I'm going to drop his car off the hoist next time I'm over there. plus john is very active in nsw motorsport and is obsessed with brakes and the like, so he can actually give some usefull advice. just for the love of god do not give him any encouragement about his zed...
  13. yes I think unique autosports sell them. and in fact I think the one I have seen came from them. it was very nice. http://www.uniqueautosports.com/pricelists..._gtrstyling.htm
  14. everyone selling cars is always going to say the values are still high and worth every cent they are asking. those looking to buy will always point to all sorts of factors to support their argument that prices are falling. R34 GTRs are a little bit unique at the moment. prices cover a huge spread. both in japan and in aus. you can see R34 GTRs in not so good shape under 3mil yen in japan, right up to 2002 Nurs or Mspec Nurs over 6mil yen. and in aus anywhere from mid-high 40s right up to nearly $100K. that is a massive spread of prices in anyones language especially for a car that was only produced for 3 years. as for my own car, some may think it's too expensive, some may think it's too cheap. but it's hard to judge price of a car without expecting it. things like underbody condition, documentation etc are all important to me and would affect what price I was willing to pay for a car (or if I was will to buy it at all). yes I do have 9 kids to feed and hopefully selling my 34 will make enough money for me to purchase an ex government troop carrier to put all my kids and wives in the one vehicle for our family holiday to newcastle and back. so the moral is please buy my R34, you don't want my kids to grow up deprived of a trip to see nanna do you? do you?
  15. is nice.... I'm not sure about in vic but there are a few perspex places in syd that can knock something up pretty easily. or you could consider the sard surge tanks which mount the pump inside the tank which is a good idea, and looks neat. plus being inside the tank surrounded by fuel it tends to quieten down the pump a bit. edit: I seem to remember paul dirtgarage had a very nice perspex cover for his pumps and surge tank. pretty sure it's his set-up I'm picturing. had neat little holes with rubber grommets for the hoses to pass through.
  16. nah, I don't think they require any special maintenance. obviously if you park your car outside they will fade over time (just like your paint will too). but if your car is garaged and washed regularly you shouldn't have any problems.
  17. I had a dry carbon one on my 33 GTR. not being dry carbon wont affect the life. if anything they will keep their finish longer as they have lots of resin on them. the JJ ones look nice. the only benefit dry carbon has it's is lighter and stronger but looks wise many people prefer the wet carbon look. here are some pics of my car with a dry carbon wing blade. sorry they aren't really good pics of the wing. but it's all I have handy.
  18. take it from someone who has been buying parts of yahoo japan for over 6 years and travels to japan twice a year that japanese people selling stuff on yahoo can be just as dodgey as aussie people selling stuff on ebay. yes there are some genuine bargains out there, but do not take every auction description as gospel, or assume that some ingrained sense of honour will compell a japanese seller to declare a fault with something he's selling. and shock horror, there are actually full on scammers on yahoo too that will take your money and send you nothing. note: I'm not saying these are anything but wonderful. they could be awesome. you'll find out when you get 'em. as I said, there are genuine bargains, but there are plenty of scams too. so beware.
  19. I'm pretty sure I've seen the just jap one. and it looked very, very nice. my only small criticism of it is that as it's not dry carbon (like some of the japanese ones) it is quite heavy. but it's not a big deal really unless you are talking race car. in which case by a dry carbon one, but be prepared to pay a lot more than $450...
  20. faulty batch eh? shame he only told you about the faulty batch after it exploded beneath your left leg. Yes compared to the number of clutches sold there has only been a small number of exploding ones but still, frankly I think 1 is too many and the fact that I know of at least 3 over the last few years tells me something isn't quite right. it sounds like everything should get sorted out though.
  21. GTSTs are in SV D as they are a low volume import. not sold in australia in full volume. it's ironic that 32 GTRs can run in type 2 etc as they were sold here by nissan, but a GTST or silvia is automatically in SV.
  22. yeah I have tossed up the low oil pressure shutdown. and my scare is the same so I went with buzzer and big warning light. it's adjustable so I can set it as needed. having said that I have seen a few set-up in various cars that run a low oil pressure ign circuit cut and they don't seem to be complaining about shut-downs. those cars I have seen just run an override next to the starter button.
  23. fk mate. i'm sorry to hear that. clutch or flywheel explosions are a very scary thing. one happend recently to a friend of mine and he was very lucky. some pieces of shrapnel pierced the floor and through the car roof. all he got was a cut thumb! (this one was an alfa race car and not using a JB clutch). I can name a few such explosions now in skylines and all the ones I know of were running jim berry clutches. I don't know if it's coincidence or not but it is a worry. benm can tell you his story which for all intents and purposes made his car a financial write off. There was another also in sydney a few months prior.
  24. lol, well I got sick of agonising over this and just bought a Linksys WAG160N. We shall see how it goes. thanks for the help all.
  25. perhaps pick up the phone and call them? just a wild idea I had.
