M35 averaged 9.69L/100km in the last week. Lowest was 8.00L/100km between Mildura and Wagga Wagga. That includes 3 days of city driving around Canberra so I'm pretty happy with that. Return trip was a bit thirstier due to head wind, more overtaking and.. urgency.

8L/100K is impressive. You running E10 or something?

on 98 i got 606 out of a tank,

it was a mix of city & highway, the mods i have are high flow turbo(stockish) high flow cat hdi inter-cooler and a k&n high flow panel air filter.ill be doing the same trip this weekend and ill try some 98 and see what i get this time around.

Screw you guys, I'm averaging 14.78L/100kms, according to the app on my phone. Best run was 12.37L/100, worst was 18.07L/00, but I think that included the drag day @ WSID.

Then again, I don't drive for economy.

+1 to this , I enjoy 2nd and 3rd gear too much.

I can understand C34 owners getting upset when M35 owners rub the C34 noses in our glorious 5 speed auto box, more leg room, less cabin noise, better weight distribution, newer technology, better handling, better interior, better ride, more room in the back, better stock power and better fuel economy.......

Most of what you said was true but I gotta say you can keep your "glorious" 5 speed auto gearbox. Its like this :- the VQ25DET is fantastic, but the laggy gearbox will keep you from really enjoying it.

I've owned both C34 and M35 - am back in a S2 C34 now, and my summary is as follows:

The ONE thing wrong with the M35 = drive-by-wire. I'm not sure if the drive-by-wire was the cause of the problem, but the gearbox was laggy as hell, and for me it really hurt the car.

Yes, the M35 is newer, and better in almost every way, except that in a stock for stock comparison, the C34 auto & throttle is WAY more responsive.

When I sold my M35 I stupidly bought a 2007 Ford wagon - what a heap of junk! After learning the hard way, I sold it after 3 weeks and returned to a stagea, but went for a C34 due to the lower price and lower running costs.

Both cars are great to own and drive - the C34 is more responsive and more "raw" (I think you feel more connected with the car), while the M35 is more comfortable and more luxurious (while being actually faster and handling better).

While on the topic of fuel economy, the difference between the two cars isn't that great:

My M35 got ~12L/100km city & 9.5L/100km highway

My C34 gets ~12.5L/100km city & 10.5L/100km highway

The M35 has different gear/diff ratios which helps a lot on the highway (the extra gear does make sense here).

Always get 400-450k's to a tank before the fuel light comes on in our S2 C34 with Neo RB25t. However, last tank we only managed 350k's before fuel light came on.... any ideas why? For the first time ever the Engine warning light came on too.

dead o2 sensor

or dying coilpacks

or boost leak

I'm at nearly 400ks for this current tank and it's getting damn close to fuel light time. I reckon I'll just nick 400 when it comes on. I would expect better for the driving I do (works out to be around 15l/100ks).

Mostly suburb driving. Still haven't figured out what my crappy miss is. Starting to lean towards coil packs. Might try gapping my plugs down and see if that helps a bit.

how do you test the o2 sensor?? i have been getting 350k's per tank for awhile now.

The best way to test them is is go here - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/135194-ntk-nissan-lambda-sensors-o2-sensors/page__p__2513840__hl__sensor__fromsearch__1#entry2513840 - buy a new one and replace it.

    • How dare you sell your unreliable Skyline and buy a reliable, Toyota/Yamaha car with a strong gearbox, torsen LSD and Toyota reliability. At least you won't need to worry about oil pumps, big catch can, oil restrictors, blowing off power steering belts, sheering off 3rd gear, failing ABS relays/pumps, etc.
    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
