Just to clarify once more.

I blew my turbo had shit on both ends out the exhaust and in the intercooler. Front blade is plastic, exhaust fins are ceramic. Both S1 and S2 R33s have ceramic/plastic turbos.

Why I have no ABS in my S2 late 1996 model? I was told they were offered as extras at the time...

No not all 95's came with a airbag but remember that some owners in japan got the airbag option fitted to a car as i have seen a 93 R33 GTST with duel airbags

I stumbled upon another difference between mine and a series 1. The fuel rail on an S1 is held in with 5 bolts while mine only has 3, the series 1 needs all of them to hold it in place and my manifold had the holes pretaped.

Not sure if any mentioned that the s1 has the battery in the boot? and the s2 has the battery in the engine bay...

Supposidly I have a series 1.5 but i can't tell. Looks like a s1 in and out. although the velour seats are completely diffferent from the old looking s1 seats and also the s2 seats.....

nope sorry mate s2 has battery in the boot as s1 did....

if it is a series 1.5 you will not have an ignitor pack at the back of your cam cover - its a small box say 10cm square. the coils handle the different voltage.

IIRC this is in fact a diffreence between sedans and coupes not the two different series. like duncan said, all r33 coupes have the battery in the boot

is it too late to post..

im not 100% on these, so please correct them if they are wrong..

but i think

- the trim has a different pattern? and changes to a more cloth material ( so i am told )

and also,

- the cluster has different positions on some of the warning lights.

**sory if its a repost and i happened to miss it.

i have a 04/03 (complience date) r33, series 1 externally, but it has a series 2 engine... possibly first 1.5? or has my engine been swapped haha? (n i can tell my engine series 2 cos has no ignitor box, 2 plug TB, and different AFM then my mates series1) but how do u tell if engine been changed? cos the engine number aint on the factory tag :S

Q; What is the difference between a series 1 and series 2 R33 Gtst?

A; There are several differences...

* The front end of the series 2 is sharper, slimmer headlights, different front bar (indicators and fog lights are round and located at the bottom of the bar). The bonnet has much sharper ridges.

* The "skyline" panel at the rear of the car is body coloured on the series 2.

* The interior of the series 2 has been updated including different trim, a passenger airbag and the dash facia has been updated.

* Mechanical differences include an updated ECU and a ceramic turbo.

* The series 1 was in production from late '93 through to late '95. The series 2 ran from early '96 through to early/mid '98.

ok.. this means i cant change my s1 bumper in to a 33 gtr.... can i?

theres a list of what was different again on the 98 series 3 models in high porformance imports think it was like the second last issue! more factory options avalible agian on these ,haha

Not sure if this has been metioned but, the series 1 has 5 seat capacity where as 1.5 and up has been lowered to 4. I.E no middle seat in the series 1.5 and greater.

yep. its got the middle one. And on the purple/pink compliance sticker it says 5. Thats my friends one. His one is 1993.

Mine which is 1995, has no middle seat belt and on the purple/pink compliance sticker it says 4.

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).
    • Car is on factory injectors/z32 maf/ q45 throttle body/ z32 ecu with nistune
    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
