hahah im just not using tiptronic at all for the moment till its fixed!!

saw the V35 post of that guys paddle shift. gimme some rice like that too while im installing things :( no really i want it!

CVT paddles , shroud and wheel would be a MUCH better option I think. the one you are talking about was meant for a Z33.

A heads up re high stop light. I failed WOF today because of it and learned from Nissan that there is only a full top panel replacement above the tailgate window. Cost to you sir? $425 NZD. $300 2nd hand. f**k that s@#t. Managed to pass after some messing around and busting into the sealed unit but a precautionary tale should you be in a likewise unhappy situation.

I haev seen the 35s with paddles and a aftermarket wheel. from waht I can tell the assembly is different from behind the wheel forward. feel free to correct me on this. (I pull them down daily but haven't looked closely at them.)

just got back from having the resistors and diode replaced on circuit board and all is sweet again

total cost $40:40 parts/labour

I disagree that the standard setup is wrong or illogical.

I figure that UP = FORWARD and DOWN = BACK. I think the only reason people want it the other way would be to simulate the manual 1st - 2nd shift when acclerating. Is this true?

To me it just makes more sense the way it is, not because either way is easier, but purely because I think it makes sense for the lever to go in the same direction as the gears - ie. up/forward and down/backward.

Maybe the people that want it the other way have come from Ford-land? I'm just curious as to what makes shifting the other way feel any better?

its been explained before, but the 'more logical' (to most of us it seems, not everyone) way would be when youre gearing down, the car is decelerating, inertia pushes you forward, thus its easier to push forward on the gear selector, not go in the opposite direction. check out some high-end race cars and things like WRC cars, they are opposite to the nissan factory configuration.

Actually find that the gears being the other way around (down = accelerate, up = decelerate) comes more naturally as you are pushing the lever in the same direction of G force.

ie, When accelerating, G forces push you backwards into your seat, thus instead of fighting and pushing the lever forward against these forces, I would prefer to pull it back. I do believe that this is the general setup for non-paddle semi-automatics in the racing world (WRC, v8 Supercars etc).

It just feels natural to me, as opposed to having to think about changing with the current directional setup. That is why a rarely use my tiptronic.

LOL....Ford land aye!.....yup because I would never own a Holden! Six of one half a dozen of the other....there both pieces of Shit! :P

pixlel8r as previously stated....it's personal preference! Mine preference is is pull back to shift up.....thats how my old Drag car used to work, so it's habit to me now.

Also I am not sure about the greatness of G force in acceleration with these things but I will tell you....under heavy braking I would much prefer to be pushing forward to shift down than pulling back....again my personal preference.

For those of us who are not changing our brake calipers but wish to upgrade our brake pads & rotors;

Front rotors and pads are the same as 350z touring/V35 Skyline/current Maxima

and

Rear rotors and pads are the same as the X-trail.

The rear pads & rotors for the 350z or v35 will not fit without modification.

Just thought you would like to know.

I may have posted this in the Stagea brakes section but for anyone interested these are the Hawk brake codes for the M35 standard brakes.

Front: HB268F.665

Rear: HB370F.559

This may help when trying to source different pads.

I have done more research into this brake thing.

It appears that the rear rotors for the NM35 ARE the same as the X-trail/350z touring/V35 skyline as they all share the same rear brake package.

(although it does seem that they are different for Dixcel rotors on Import Monster)

Serves me right for listening to a parts manager at Nissan.... jeez, what would they know....

I enquired today also and basically front rotors are same as maxima's but after march 2002 there was a change and rears are same as xtrail's. Here in NZ they are BLOODY expensive working out at about $300 each!

Found some better deals at after markets but basically fronts are not to be found except from Nissan, though the price I was quoted form my local Nissan dealer was higher than the after market guy.

    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
