Well your all thinking - he crashed his car......

haha sorry to disappoint but I'm an idiot in another way,

my car has a C.A.I in the bottom left of my front mount and tonight I was at a wedding reception when it started absolutely pissing down rain....most of you would have already guessed what happens next.....C.A.I + Rain = f**ked engine

my car was parked on the top of a 4 story car park and I didn't particularly want to leave it up the top in that kind of weather (paranoid since my insurance excess is 3000 due to me lowering my yearly premium) :) anyywayyyy i went out and was going down the ramp from the top level to the undercover level bellow when at the bottom of the ramp there was flooding and I didn’t notice since water was falling from every direction of the sky!! and so the front of my car plowed through about 10000000 L of water :D ...and next thing i know my car is coughing and spluttering and then stalls....took me a few minutes to start it up again but the damage was already done...the car idles....but has savage knocking, indicating most probably 1 or 2 bent valves.....:(

Anyway thought I would share my night with you all!!

Chuck any ideas on what else might have happened...anyone have any similar experiences?....:P...I’m taking a wild guess of around 1000 buks to fix??

Anyway give us your thoughts!

if i was you i'd be checking that your coil packs and spark plugs arent flooded with water. just get to the plugs/coil packs and make sure they are as dry as possible before re-assembling it all. you'll need to remove any water from your piping as well as your wet air filter before starting the car up again. also make sure your AFM isnt fcuked too.

Thanx man, will do!

hey its pretty unlikely that you have hudrolocked (how ever you spell it) your motor unless u drove through a half a meter puddle, the water would have to travel through your filter past the afm, the turbo, then intercooler and finally to your engine, and when you motor get enough water in there it bends your conrods, as it been said before in this thread check your electrics and intake piping, a having a couple cylinders missing firing sounds like a very bad knocking.

is it possible that water got into one of my cylinders and isn't allowing the spark plug to fire?? hence why ther is knocking noise??? and if i do have a bent con rod or valve or wtvr would i still be able to start the engine??

bent rod = really bad knocking, you'll hear a really bad rattle coming from the engine. and it will be REALLY rough on idle as well as loads of blue smoke coming out of your exhaust - thats if it actually idles. if you're getting black smoke out of your exhaust then chances are your spark plugs are flooded. do what i said above if its blowing out black smoke and you should be sweet.

As mentioned before, doubt you've bent a valve from driving through a puddle, especially with a cold engine (not that that would matter).

Dry it out it should be fine.

Btw who told you you have rooted the top end from driving through a puddle?

This whole hyrdo lock thing is getting out of control, the car would stop before you sucked in that amount of water, full stop.

The only way I can see that happening is a massive body of water and the car travelling at such a speed that momentum keeps the rears and crank spinning way after the ignition fails.

I had water get into my AFM once. Engine sounded like it was going to grenade, but after all the water dried everything was fine.

Park the car in a garage for a few days let everything dry out. See what happens.

yea but do you know if the water actually got into your engine...like i have water in my cams!! and water in the cylinders!!

anyway

i was up till about 4 this morning taking of my throttle body and intake manifold (to get to a Non-turbo coil pack and spark plug bay is a bitch and a half because the intake goes over the coil pack cover.) anyywayy i took all the coil packs out and spark plugs... (they were black) and turned the engine over a few times...lots of shit spat out as expected...then i put her all back together and started it up but the knock is still there.....

now my question is...when i turned the engine over with all the spark plugs out i didn't hear any tapping or metal on metal noises...does this mean that the pistons arnt hitting any valves?? and that the knocking noise is just one of the cylinders not firing??

damn.. shit situation man

take it to your workshop and get them to take alook at it rather than potentially doing more damage. once you've sorted the electrics as joe suggested any further noise could be fatal

how many inches of water was there?

how many inches of water was there?

8-10 inches - Im guessing tho, because i remember seeing water washed up over the bonnet, meaning that it easily was higher then the front mounts clearance from the ground and when the car stopped i knew in my head exactly what happened...an i freaked so i didn't really go and check.

sorry if this has been covered in recent posts....i just havent read up...

ok

this is what ill do IF....there is water in the engine.....

1.) remove all spark plugs from the head

2.) dont forget to which ingnition lead goes to what plug.,..if in doubt...mark them

3.) if the plugs are fouled, you can either replace them...or if they are good plugs, you can actually heat them on the stove to make it red hot...to get rid of the carbon. (then give it a clean with some steel wool...then it be good as new)

4.) crank the engine to push all water out of the cylinders...id crank it say...10 sec..give it half a minute then crank it 10 sec again.... then repeating it one more time. (this is just a simple measure that your not gonna f**k up your Start motor...cause its not designed for continuous usage like this..it will burn out)

5.) Open your air box, if you have a concealed one... make sure it is dry from water. if it still is waterlogged.....remove all water. im sure if your car pinged and stalled....it got in through her

6.) if it still does it........id change the oil....it may have gotten in there

and will always disrupt the function of the combustion.

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
