What makes the hype?

1.Less than 2 feet IC piping with less than 150 degrees in bends.

Every bend or change in direction of air flow is viewed as potential flow loss. It is estimated at every 90 degrees(or three 30 degree bends)results in 1% flow loss. Compare competitors vs ASTRAY.

EXAMPLE

90+45+45+90+90+45+90+90+90 = 675 Degrees/90 = 7.5% flow loss just on piping

2.No battery relocation = No drilling big holes for intercooler piping

3.Able to keep front bumper support

Removing the front bumper support jeopardizes your engine bay in a front collision.

*NOTE: This 240sx would still be able to compete with an ASTRAY IC system as long as the radiator is unharmed.

4.Is not a V-mount IC

V-mount intercoolers are prone to heat soak. V-mount ICs lose efficiency when IC and piping become same temperature as ambient air. This often happens when car is not moving and engine bay temps heat IC.

5.Intercooler as direct cooling, no interferences from cars body parts.

I am thinking that it isnt the ultimate flow.At high speed the air would bank up against it and rather go around as its an easier path

Yeah he needs to customize the bonnet to funnel the air through... lol...

would be better on the roof but...

I like the theory about how removing the supports when installing a FMIC is somehow more dangerous than mounting an intercooler in the middle of your bonnet and obscuring a good chunk of your forward vision...

Looks stupid, IS stupid.

Looks as stupid as this guy getting around town with a pod filter sticking out from his bonnet on an old shitty Honda.

I shit you not, But there used to be a guy getting around Fairfield in an EXA Turbo with a hole cut in the bonnet and atmo BOV sticking straight out about 10-15 cm....That looked stupid.

I also seen several guys with holes cut in the side of front bar and pod filter partially sticking out.

WTF are these guys thinking ?

More so Cooling will be at its maximum.

A good idea but interesting about what they said about the V-Mount intercoolers are prone to heat soak.

That image is not a V-Mount intercooler, I say it's a Top Mount, V-Mounts are like Front Mounts but on an angle, which is similar shape like a "V".

Designed to avoid damage if the front bar has been smashed off.

I find it hard to justify this intercooler system, as the Japanese have been using Front and V-Mount intercoolers in they D1 Drift Battles and other drift events.

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required. 
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something? 
    • I couldn't agree more. I should have started from the get-go with a NEO or solid bucket conversion. I started looking into converting over to solid lifters yesterday.
