Couldn't agree more. No disrespect to people who had 'old Jeeps' but in general they were $hit. Fiat ownership has brought along European design influences and more importantly European production standards. The fit and finish and general build quality of the Jeeps is spot on. I've never seen a brand go from junk to top quality in such a short period of time. If I wasn't building a house, a shed and a car I'd have one for sure! Driving one as a demo whenever I like is a suitable alternative though!

One point about the Challenger. It may be rated to tow three tonnes but two is more realistic in my experience, particularly where people put those bloody awful tyre racks up high on the trailer. Race car? Heard about aero drag? It's true, take notice.

Mines an auto which has less engine torque than the manual. Some tow more than 2T with the auto no problem but I'm conservative with any recommendations, particularly as some want to tow 4WD bush style.

Towing back from Wollongong to home via the city was a flamin mongrel of a tow!

Picking up new amarok next week, will see how the little 2 litre goes. Before I get flamed for not buying a patrol or cruiser, the wife will end up driving it more than me so It was a compromise.

Daily comfort vs towing practicality. I'm sure it will capable of pulling the axe plus tools.

I wouldn't worry about getting any stick about your purchase unless you bought a falcon.

the patrol is now coming up 400 k and still tows every day. maintainence to date. brake pads and tyres. and, shock horror, i split the top tank on the radiator a couple of months back. a 400 dollar fix.

I reckon I should have recieved warranty for that.

But, Pat Callinan will be proud of you!

Anyone used a 1998 mitsubishi delica 2.8l turbo diesel intercooled for towing?

They are a basically L400 on steroids with 4wd gear using pajero floor/chassis i heard?

Dad has one and tows a ~1000kg caravan with ease he says.

Trailer will have electric brakes.

I would like to try it and see how it goes, otherwise i will have to get something else... but would like to see if anyone had any experiance.

Yep, used one heaps. Tow good, needed a good custom tow bar made though. We towed heaps interstate, was a great distance hauler for two blokes. The guy taking a rest could recline in back with a DVD. We did multiple qld to Tas trips, towing over two tonne each time. Electric braked trailer.

Should tow fine. Probably be thirsty, but should do everything else well. The Territorys have had a good name since they came out, so you should have a good run with it. Just check whether it has / needs a trans cooler, as many modern 4WD's don't, and they suffer when towing / beach driving etc. (I presume it's auto 6 speed)

Yeh that's what I meant - thirsty when towing. Petrol SUV's tend to be that way. Still, for the small amount of time you're likely to spend towing, that shouldn't be a major issue. All good if no trans cooler is needed.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!

    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
