seems pretty laggy, but I guess it doesnt really matter for a circuit only car

really? I wouldn't call it laggy. it reaches 260kw at 5,500rpm and holds it to redline. that's a pretty nice bit of power for a little 2L.

It's coming on hard from 4,500 onwards and is very strong by 5,000. so as long as you can keep it above 4,500rpm it will be hauling ass!

Well after Targa I think it's time to get a gated sump after i ran a bearing the night before the event. I'm also going to rethink the breather setup to stop it blowing oil out of the breathers all the time, and last of all put some cam gears on to improve response.

I gained some motivation today, put the dead engine on the engine stand, and drained the oil out. There more than an acceptible amount of bearing on my magnetec sump plug. But I ran out of motivation when it got time to remove the sump.

Some incar from targa

Nice vids...seems E85 is the way to go :)

I call 1bar @ more than 5000rpm laggy, but thats just me :)

and yeah doesnt make a difference on the circuit as long as its kept over that sweet spot!

Cant have everything in this world, and you dont make 260+rwkws from an RB20 unless you move the power band up over 4,5000rpm!

You so can have everything... You just need to shoe horn a V8 in with twin turbos... :D

So what were you doing the night before the event to spin a bearing and call oil surge issues?

Was at Baskerville raceway. I've now been over the datalogs, and the oil pressure keeps dropping to 0psi under brakes (didn't for targa though)

The lag wouldn't have been a problem if I was able to rev to 8000rpm, but the new engine had issues to prevent that, so I lost 1000rpm off the powerband.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
