Surely PNM35 is different? Different ECU, maybe it is compatible with some more of these tools?

The HKS OB-Link quotes NM35 compatibility, might be PM35 compatible too? Gives you an app you can view on Android.

Well, I've given up on the GoPoint Cable (Scotty was right - it didn't work). The PNM35, even thought it is newer, is still not OBDII compliant :/. The cable didn't even work on a VT Commodore, although it did work on a VZ. I then tried a mates Scangauge and it didn't work on the Stag either.

Oh and on a side note I think I need to brush up on my multimeter skills. I have since checked Pin 16 again and it actually has a constant 12 volts. Also the pin layout of the OBD connector is the same as CAN Bus (http://plxdevices.com/obd/) if that means anything.

Anyway, I have since purchased the ECUDatascan (http://www.ecudatascan.com.au/home.html), which supports Nissan Consult, and it actually works :). I get 21 parameters including water temp, air temp and speed. Interestingly, as this unit has a built in GPS, I was able to display both ECU speed and GPS speed and they are almost the same, whereas the speedo is 10% out. Unfortunately, it doesn't display any fuel mileage parameters, which is what I was really hoping for. I think the ECUDatascan is capable of displaying them, so I'm guessing the OBD port doesn't support these PIDs, unless someone knows otherwise.

To get fuel consumption, maybe it would be easier to retrofit the factory display and computer :rolleyes:. It was fairly easy retrofitting the trip computer from a Skyline Silhouette into my R31 wagon. In the meantime I will just continue using Road Trip (manual entry) on my iPhone.

Otherwise it seems like a good unit. It can display graphs, digital or analogue gauges, check engine codes and can even do track times. There is also a cable available which allows it to plug into the early Skylines and I assume C34 Stageas. Here is a pic of the unit.

I own a Hr 31 and I willl say now that a LOT of stuff has changed over the years. whilst the earlier cars are a LOT easier to retrofit things to - the newer ones aren't.

to get the screen you need to have a different cluster, all the wiring and the electronics. without the cluster none of it works.

NDS will do pretty much anything. short of having a proper scan tool (launch diagun for me) thats the next best thing.

I purchased a little gadget from trademe.co.nz recently and it's great. It's a Bully Dog GT (Gauge Tuner). Plugs into the OBD port and is preloaded (memory card) with info to allow it to work with Infiniti/Nissan. I have to thank KiwiRS4T (Bob) for discovering this and mentioning it in another thread. I actually thought iamhe77 (Cam) was going to buy it, but the auction closed with no bids. So after it was relisted and some online research, I purchased it. Cam, if you want to know anything about it, just give me a yell. The website www.bullydog.com has some good info as well.

It shows a number of PIDs, DTCs, fuel economy :banana: , performance tests and it can even do some minor tuning, although I haven't checked this out yet. The economy info is quaint with a score and tips. Although the screen is very small, it is very clear and easy to read. It isn't a touch screen but the buttons on the sides are capacitive touch so very easy to use.

I'm not sure if it will work on a series I but am happy to try if anyone wants to drop by. I'm fairly certain it would work on a V35.

So that's 3 devices you have tried. You weren't joking about wanting a fuel economy display, lol.

What are you doing with the old ECUdatascan?

Thread resurrection - has anyone found a cheap alternative in all the current options?

Perhaps this at moderate cost ($175)? Mentions JOBD, KWP2000, and "Vehicle coverage for Nissan ( 1996 to 2014 )" with Stagea in the list

I tried Hob Drive with a cheapo bluetooth but it didnt work. Which one did you get?

Great - i've ordered that one.
The only time i have any sort of issue connecting is when im in my driveway at home and my android stereo tries to connect to my home wifi instead of the vlink. Its not really an issue, as it automatically connects while im driving away but yeah just be aware that can happen.

      Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.

      I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.

      No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.

      Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!

      You think its the AFM? I know its a common issues on R32s. I find it coincidental how this issue raised right after cleaning the fuel system. As everything except the fuel system was fine before. I tried running it with the IACV unplugged but did not notice a difference and still stalled. However, the RPM gauge is not in the cluster right now, so I will need to connect the laptop again and use Nistune to check the RPM. I will check this weekend.
