The "how do I get this old rubber hose off" thread reminded me about this idea.....so here it is, the cool tool thread.

What are the odd/unusual/invaluable tools you use!

Here is the opening item....

What: Hose Pliers

For: Saving your knuckles! Gets most hoses off, and after 20 years they can be damn hard to budge! Vacuum hoses, coolant hoses, breather hoses you name it.

From: Got mine from the tool guy that came to the show n shine....probably need to find a specialist tools shop

what: circlip pliers

for: getting the circlip that holds your gudgeon pins in, to get your pistons off your rods (without one id imagine the circlip would fly into the mystical place in your garage where things go missing for no reason).

from: most major auto stores, ebay, or in my case - mates tool box.

cost: $10 to $30.

What : deburing tool

For: removing burs from edges - mostly useful for metalworking - clear out burs on insides of pipes when cut

From : boltshops,toolshop and jaycar

What : wire stripper /cutter

For : quick stripping of wire ends : these things are Awesome as they make wiring up anything so much faster than a blade or pair of side cutters - zero wire penetration.

Ratchet spanners! 'cause using an ordinary ring spanner is shit

I bought a 10 pce set (10mm to 19mm) from Blackwoods through work for around $160 around 4 years ago

What: Snap on hose clamp pliers

For: those damn hose clamps that are in stupid place where normal sized hands and/or pliers cant go

From: Snap On, Got it when i was a panel beater 5 or so years ago

Price: about $100 I think but f*k me it was worth it

What: Spanner ends that go on a ratchet

For: Undoing bastard nuts/bolts that a socket wont fit and is too tight / not enough room for a full size spanner to fit onto

From: I didnt buy them, specialty tool shop of some sort as a best guess.

Price: wouldnt have a clue, they dont belong to me

What: 14mm stubby ratchet spanner

For: Top and bottom starter motor bolt. Just enough space to turn them easily. And if the top bolt is too tight for a stubby ratchet to undo loop a piece of rope around the end and pull down - gives you about a meter of leverage.

From: Pretty much any brand

Cost: about $100 for a set depending on brand, you really only need 1 for about $10-15

For: Removing Tie rod ends

Saves alot of pain and time.

umm i cant find any but its pretty simple to use...its got a jaw at the end of it which u place on your hose clamp, then once the jaw is on the clamp you just squeeze the handle and it closes the jaws and loosing the clamp. then the handle has a lock on it so it wont spring back out so you can put the handle down and get both hands in to pull the clamp off

Perfect for changing tyres in the middle of a stage and it not taking 5minutes to get the wheel nuts off.
