Was looking at getting someone to do full exhaust from turbo back. Would I be right in thinking if I put one of these dumps on then the hardest part for them to fabricate would be done?

nup......hardest part is the suction pipe atm!......I'm pretty sure headers will be a motor out job....if we ever do them!

Skirt!

Im pretty sure I could get the manifolds off without removing the engine, but I couldn't get the replacement custom manifold and GT35 back on. Best to drop the engine. Suction pipe is easy mate. :)

I had an issue with the last dump pipe I made, I couldn't remove the nuts on the stock dump, they had been over torqued onto the turbo, the engine will have to be dropped to get a socket onto the nuts in this case.

Lol he is referring to my car.. looks like the mechanic used a breaker bar n loooooooooooong extension n tightened them good(in this case bad).

Scotty... he said he's gonna drop the engine a couple of inches n put your dump on free. im hoping to get it on there by wednesday-ish but hopefully before the end of the week :)

until then i'll just stare at it. :)

Do I need two?.... :)

I can't use the "my turbo will blow" excuse on the Mrs to get an exhaust.... DAMM! :)

LMAO this is the exact excuse i used on my parents, it wasn't believed, then my Turbo actually blew, so they paid for it hahahahahahahahah

Nothing to do with the boooost level? :)

noooo scotty nothing to do with 20psi with a stock turbo.. nothing at all..i remember dad asking what the little T boost thing was.. i made up something along the lines of. i had a split in the bosst line so i have to use that to control it so too much doesnt go through..

got a reply from the mechanic.. he can only do the dump week after next :)

he's doing it for free so i guess ill have to wait

Was only talking about turbo back, so custom dump from here, then new front pipe, hiflo cat and new muffler will do it? And most exhaust places could fabricate?

Actually just went out for a crawl under the thing to check what you and others were refering to - not going near the bits before the turbo.

(If I have confusion I am sure someone will set me straight.)

"Someone" suggested as most of the restriction was in the dump, minor "modifications" of the cat/s and replacing dump would get almost as much benefit as a new 3" exhaust? I wonder how they where going to modify it....said something about a hammer.

Anyway put me down for one and let me know exact $ and when pls.

hehe thanks scott.. best investment i made so far getting that complete zorst up here from dump to muffler, as far as mods go thus far,

dont have to deal with any of this bs :P

hehe i always wanted to ask about the zorst manifold wrapping around as such. nice to know its a bitch of a job if we ever wanna go custom.. but alas screw one bank being turbo.

Have to get my matey onto it. he doesnt work full time at the fabrication shop anymore, so he has to do it in his spare time..

i've told him there is about 7 or so interested in it so hes pretty keen to get it started.

G'day Angus.

How are we looking on numbers now? By my rough count there's at least 10 people interested.

Mate, that's EXACTLY what I wanted to hear. I'll do some dodgy maths now to show how the dump pipe mod will pay for itself (better fuel economy) in X months and with no downside how can she say no???

Any chance of showing how this dump pipe will benefit fuel economy, and reduce costs?

lets say for every 10,000km

Any comments on this

I got this off the Interent

Sound/noise level will vary with the size of the pipe down the whole length of the system. A bigger pipe with a bigger muffler with a bigger tailpipe will make it louder. But if the system only has a larger dump pipe and a stock size pipe after that, it will stay the same and make little or no difference for power too.

Galebanks.com has a tech section with loads of info, even if he doesn't make a system for that truck, his knowledge is unparalleled.

If the standard piping other than the dump pipe remains the same will fuel economy really change?

I am still having trouble understanding with the exhaust gases exiting from the standard piping , though the pictures posted were helpful.

Just trying to work out whats true and trying to learn.....thanks

If you are trying to work out how to reduce fuel consumption with a M35 Stagea you are looking in the wrong direction and the wrong car.

Replacing the stock dump pipes achieves 2 things

1) Removes a restriction by increasing the diameter of the pipe and removes narrow opening at the turbo.

2) Removes a catalitic convertor that is a huge restriction.

Benifits:

1) Improved power in low to mid range. (not dyno tested as too expensive to keep getting a dyno run for each change I have made)

Negatives:

1) Slightly louder at the dump pipe but not an issue.

2) A little more heat transfer to the floor of the car. (I have just rectified this by thermo wrapping the dump pipe)

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Andy

At least 10 people have a dump pipe of some description on their their cars, ALL of them have reported a performance gain. The extra power/torque allows you to use a smaller throttle opening in any given situation (i.e. hills, pulling away from lights) to achieve the same end result.

One word; Bollocks.

Maybe so, but he doesn't have FIRST HAND experience with THIS car. Look at the guys reporting positive results in THIS forum.

Yes; I could be wrong, but I think so far, I'm the only one to fit the dump pipe ONLY; with the standard exhaust.

My opinion; It makes a HUGE difference to the car, responsiveness, reduced throttle opening required, POWER, TORQUE, honestly it's like a different car. Fuel economy, a little, but it's not like you're suddenly going to be getting 6l per 100km. This car weighs around 1700kg (minimum) not a Prius by any means.

The best thing you could do is; look at the forum, trust the guys who have done the mod, read their feedback, follow their lead. First hand experience form the guys on this forum is worth it's weight in gold.

Cheers, Dale

EDIT, bah! Andy beat me.

Can you see the pattern forming?

The stagea exhaust seems pretty atypical - in most exhausts the dump would definitely not be a significant restriction. what samuri says stands true in the majority of cases however based on several pieces of anecdotal evidence and the pretty pictures of a big hole becoming a really little hole (ie, the stock dump and 1st cat on the last page) i'm more than happy to accept that a better flowing aftermarket dump is going to make a discernible difference.

Andy and Dale are right on the money here Graham.

Couldn't agree more.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
