Nah no realy benefit, remote turbo set-ups are usually done due to spacing constraints.

Ends up being pretty laggy, but makes similar powar. Also they dont usually need intercoolers cos the piping is soo long, the air looses all its heat on the way back to the motor.

Exactly what I was thinking.

The turbo housing should also act as an intercooler as the outside air is blowing onto it.

Instant cooling...

+ this setup seems quite popular in the USA.

Im still not a believer of such setups.

One dude in FI has something similar ATM ("STS" thread)... But with ALL that extra pipe work, there MUST be some delay & lag on that set-up over conventional stuff.

Also add in the extra weight, weight balance all that pipe would come into etc etc.

I think the fact they all usually do it with resonable cube V8's kinda negates it a bit - but you can hear from the video how long the turbos take to get on song

Yeah not exactly responsive, especially for such small turbos.

doesn't matter on that setup though as he's got high comp Lexus V8 power... the turbos would just give more torque/power and fatten out the midrange and top end... he's only running 5psi if I heard correctly

Yeah i agree with that, still would be much better with a "real" turbo setup though, If it were mine I would just leave it Aspirated.

V160 Conversion wouldn't be too hard they are just a Fat version of an IS250 and bell housings are avaliable to suit the UZ motor

an advantage though, epic turbo spool noise coming out the exhaust as it doesn't have to pass through any mufflers after the turbo.

I have been thinking about doing this to my 5ltr NC fairlane for those exact reasons.

80% of the energy the turbo uses comes from exhaust heat

how hot is your manifold ? vs how hot is the exhaust gas at the tip ? you do the math

how does the turbo use heat? the turbo uses exhaust gas flow. sure the exhaust gas has less density when it is hotter, therefore being a larger volume, but if you take this into account with exhaust size and turbo size you could balance things out a bit. plus there is the advantge of the fact that a byproduct of the turbo is heat, which then reduces power, so having it further away reduces the power loss through hotter intake temps and restrictive intercoolers.

not goin to argue how a turbo works . go read a book instead of the internet

on another note of someone came to me and had lots of money and wanted this id be happy to do it and he is obvoiusly happy with it

there was a huge debate on this on NS a while back. short answer, no.

-increased intercooler piping thus more lag.

-increased risk of turbo damage.

-decreased life span of the turbo. whenever it rains the turbo will be sprayed with water. since the inside of the exhaust hosing will be around 900c yet the outside is being sprayed with cool water, the great temperature difference is likely to cause cracking.

-cheaper, easier and more common to do with the correct way.

    • So I'll put filler past the repair area a bit to make sure I don't miss anything. Then I'll block it until it's almost level, put the guidecoat, then keep blocking until it's gone. Then it's still wavy.  In regards to hitting the panel, I saw this video might give more context - Skip to 0:47 he knocks it down. But yeah I'm sanding until the guidecoat is gone then checking because otherwise my filler is still well above the bodyline. Unless what you're saying is I should put guidecoat around it early, surrounding the filler then stip once it's gone?
    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.
    • Stop looking at the garage floor, and turn the radio up a bit louder if there's any strange noises...
    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
