So what is the general consensus of the equivalent GT3071/76 in BW flavour? Any comparisons to show if the BW is worth looking at for this power range (260-300kw) on a 2.5L ?

At the moment I think most people are basing their opinion on the HP rating. The B frame options all meet and exceed the said garrett items on paper, yet the largest of the B has proved itself equal to a 35R for now.

I think these turbos are still at the pioneer stage where everyone would rather buy a cheap OR proven item than risk one of these. This would be a good time for BW or Fullrace to step in and do some application based tests. The single turbo GTR that they have could be swapped out for anything B frame plus and retuned to show the realistic potential for each unit, very much hypergear style.

I am days away from my proposed purchase date and could still be swayed, if there were more results. I just dont have the cash to be the said pioneer myself.

Have a play with their matchbot software, that'll let you know which of the EFRs will suit your needs. It looks confusing but watch the tutorials at the bottom of the page.

I know there is 6258 on a stock SR20 motor that dyno'd at 340 to 360whp (from memory) on the crappy U.S. west coast 91 octane fuel and the owner was praising the linear torque curve. I'm not sure if that dyno plot is online anywhere or not...

The twins on the RB26 work well, and don't "shuffle/surge" like other applications which I personally think is a huge selling factor for larger twins.

(The 6258's are rated at 450HP)

It's not the lack of effort to get these in the right people's hands, it has a EVERYTHING to do with the lack of product. Once the product is more readily available you'll probably get all the information you want/need. (yes, I'm at Full Race)

Why would they surge dont all models have surge slots in the comp housing?

I think it's more of a terminology issue here. MOST turbos (about 2530 and larger) on the RB26 seem to "fight each other" in a shuffle. I have heard many cars that do it slowly and in a whisper even at idle, only to get worse as load increases. The only way once the turbos start this "shuffle" under load is to hope you can drive right thru it or back off the throttle and immediately return to WOT. The 6258's have been proven not to do this... I'm sure you can search and find a lot of info on this phenomenon. It can be quite annoying.

even my 2530s surge at idle. you can hear little choof choof noises as air comes in and out of the pod filters... though they are not bad under load. only surge under load at low rpm/high load situations (2,500 rpm, greater than 50%tps up a hill etc). but the GTRS etc tend to surge right into the midrange which sucks hard.

Yup.. they sound like Darth Vader at idle. It's a very common theme with RB26's and larger twins, and some surge until you hit WOT. The 6258's show no signs of this and they are rated at 450hp.

Next up will be the 6758's to see if they ride the choof choof train to Vaderville, or like their little brothers, speak softly and carry a big stick...

My mechanic has a similar one and loves it. He actually told me to get this exact one 2 years ago and I really wish I had. He is infact looking at getting one since he says it's actually a better one than his due to the something or other being twice the thickness. Sorry but I'm not a techno. I went with the GT35R instead since two buddies told me that that was the best street turbo...blah blah blah. Well the GT35R only lasted not even two years and it can't be rebuilt so that's $2100 wasted when I could have gotten this one for $775 shipped. It spools fairly quickly, has a lower power band which is good for street and track so it's not laggy. I'm running it as a single on my 89 Supra Turbo with 2JZ-GTE. My goal is only 750 RWHP not 800 so it will be fine. Not sure how it will work on a Skyline but it should be awesome if it's anything like on the Supra. If you can get it shipped to Oz from Cali then you have a winner unless you can pick one up there. My mechanic's buddy has one in his Nissan 300Z and paid $1000 so I figure I made off like a bandit. Cheers.

s366 is a BW turbo rebranded by bullseye power with more exhaust housing options ( bw mainly make t4 twinscroll where as BEP have t3 open housings)

It fits. Kinda. The boost control solenoid fouled on the standard manifold, and I couldn't quite clock the comp cover to where I wanted it, so I went out and bought this A'Pexi manifold (unsure) for nice and cheap.

Cover for the bypass valve is a little too close for me to just smash a water line on there, so I'll have to get a little creative. Probably use a banjo of some description.

Injectors for the new setup will likely come along this week, but it'll be a little while before much happens. Completely lost motivation for it at the moment, which was bound to happen eventually.

So now it's time for me to spend all my cash on something else, get drunk, head to the strippers, and do a whole bunch of other non car related shit until I'm motivated again.

Just because it's got a t2 flange does not mean it's a bolt on turbo

I totally agree. There are soo many Bolton Garrett substitute and high flows for SR20s with proven results. The amount $$$$ spent in doing this unique project totally out weight the actual benefit from it unless there is a unique results such as GT3076's performance with 2860R's response.

How ever that makes a great piece of artical to read up on during tea breaks.

All the material I've found seems to suggest just that, 3071 power with response rivaling that of a 2860.

Whether or not that's true... Well, we'll all have to wait it out. Most projects using 6258s seem to be progressing as quickly as mine, at a pace that makes glacial appear swift, so dyno charts are thin on the ground.

For the amount of money I've spent so far, I could have easily gone 3071R on a high mount manifold, and probably be back on the road a month ago.

But where's the fun in that?

While admittedly, I have hit a wall, it happens to anyone that spends long enough sitting in their personal hell garage, drinking beer, and staring at a car in bits, I'm still more than happy I spent the coin on the Borg Warner.

I looked into actual 2860RS' (instead of the high flow I had), 2871s, 2876s, 3071s, T518zs, TD05s, TD06s, RX6s, etc etc etc ad nauseum, I now know more about those than I'll ever have the need to, while the 6258 may not be the best 'bang for buck' for most punters, for my dollar, it was the only way to go.

    • You won't need to do that if your happy to learn to tune it yourself. You 100% do not need to do that. It is not part of the learning process. It's not like driving on track and 'finding the limit by stepping over the limit'. You should not ever accidently blow up an engine and you should have setup the ECU's engine protection to save you from yourself while you are learning anyway. Plenty of us have tuned their own cars, myself included. We still come here for advice/guidance/new ideas etc.  What have you been doing so far to learn how to tune?
    • Put the ECU's MAP line in your mouth. Blow as hard as you can. You should be able to see about 10 kPa, maybe 15 kPa positive pressure. Suck on it. You should be able to generate a decent vacuum to about the same level also. Note that this is only ~2 psi either way. If the MAP is reading -5 psi all the time, ignition on, engine running or not, driving around or not, then it is severely f**ked. Also, you SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT WITHOUT A LOAD REFERENCE. You will break the engine. Badly.
    • Could be correct. Meter might be that far out. Compare against a known 5 ohm 1% resistor.
    • @Murray_Calavera  If I were an expert I wouldn't be in here looking for assistance.  I am extremely computer literate, have above average understanding on how things should be working and how they should tie together.  If I need to go to a professional tuner so be it, but I'd much rather learn and do things myself even if it means looking for some guidance along the way and blowing up a few engines. @GTSBoy  I was hoping it would be as simple as a large vacuum leak somewhere but I'm unable to find anything, all lines seem to be well capped or going where they need to be, and when removed there is vacuum felt on the tube.  It would be odd for the Haltech built in MAP to be faulty, the GTT tune I imported had it enabled from the start, I incorrectly assumed it was reading a signal from the stock MAP, but that doesn't exist.  After running a vacuum hose to the ECU the signal doesn't change more than 0.2 in either direction.   I'll probably upload a video of my settings tomorrow, as it stands I'm able to daily drive, but getting stuttering when giving it gas from idle, so pulling away from lights is a slow process of revving it up and feathering the clutch until its moving, then it will accelerate fine.  It sounds like I need to get to the bottom of the manifold pressure issue, but the ignition timing section is most intimidating to me and will probably let a pro do that part.  Tomorrow I'll try a different vacuum line to T off of, with any luck I selected one that was already bypassed during the DBW swap.  (edit: I went out and did it right now, the line I had chosen did appear to have no vacuum on it, it used to go to the front of the intake, I've now completely blocked that one off at the bracket that holds several vacuum lines by the firewall.  I T'd into the vacuum line that goes from that bracket to the vacuum pump at the front of the car, but no change in the MAP readings).  Using the new vacuum line that has obvious vacuum on the hose, im still only getting readings between -6.0 and -5.2.  I'm wondering why the ECU was detecting -5.3 when nothing was connected to the MAP nipple and ECU MAP selected as the source. @feartherb26  I do have +T in the works but wanted to wait until Spring to start with that swap since this is my good winter AWD vehicle.  When removing the butterfly, did it leave a bunch of holes in the manifold that you needed to plug?  I thought about removing it but assumed it would be a mess.   I notice no difference when capping the vacuum line to it or letting it do its thing.  This whole thing has convinced me to just get a forward facing manifold when the time comes though.
    • Update: tested my spark plugs that are supposed to be 5ohms with a 10% deviation and one gave me a 0 ohms reading and the rest were 3.9ohm<, so one bad and the others on their way out.
