bonus... no finger waving this week!!

golden

Great race today. The new regs even make China exciting Bodes well for the rest of the year.

Jense- Wrong pit box, w.t.f mate? Crew colours aren't even remotely close.

Yeah on neighbours years ago

Google images to the rescue;

pretty sure he was a Big Bother contestant wasnt he?? one of those straight to neighbours kinda cool cats......that cant act...

anyways. GOOO!!! Webber. finally got his car into action. if he'd got out of the croud out the back early on he would have had Vetool and Hamo easily. but it took him half the race to wake up and start driving like we all know he can :)

awesome race overall!! bring on more of that.....instead of Vetool out front and everyone else naively trying to catch him

I'm a big button fan but wtf man?! Wrong pit box, that could have cost him the win!!

Go Webber! Fk off the fact he's the unluckiest man in f1 in many years, had a horrific qualifying day and got 18th, has car issues and traffic and hell, he just overcomes that with brute force, love it! Also should set some of his critics straight. I was so hoping he'd overtake Vettel at the end, would have been out-of-seat cheering!

Lol at above, I also said that this year is gonna be good given how exciting china is haha.

What do people think about the drs? Good/Bad? I've been thinking for a while now that they need a straight back and front wing with minimal body downforce, like back in the old days when you didn't have to be massively faster to pass. Given they can't change all that, the drs seems to work pretty well. It'd be more interesting if the drivers could use it more often, harder for them but the fans would love the exciting racing that would come from it. China has two massive straights and it was only available for the last half of one of them, if it was available earlier Webber would have had a shot at victory and it would have been the best drive in many many years (despite that it still is!). It does make the racing a bit artificial, but the affect of dirty air doesn't exactly keep it pure either.

Pretty sure he wouldn't have had the tyre health for that, certainly not compared to Lewis. I thought McLaren were on for a 1|2 before the last series of stops shook out.

At best you could say he might have been 3rd given how small an amount of time the pitbox infarction cost him realistically; But it's hard to say if Mark wouldn't have passed him anyway.

While I'm a fan of Webche, I think many people are missing the fact that he had used 3 sets of brand new soft tyres, due to his 18th place quali.

instant 1-2 seconds a lap quicker.

+1

It was an awesome drive but he had something the rest didn't. There is also no doubt the reason Hammo won was because he had that 1 set of virgin softs. Just look at the lap times he did on thats set of tyres.

They say that they don't cycle well and that race proved just how accurate that assumption was so I think you will find going forwards that all of the front guys will keep at least 1 set of new softs up their sleeves as this has shown that 1 new set of softs in the race is worth probably a min 3 spots in Quali.

Exactly...if he had qualifed much better lets say top 6 he wouldn't be there...so it was a blessing in disguise for him...

One thing is for sure now...no one can now whinge that webber has an inferior car anymore...the car is capable of the pace...its up to him now...

And as for the interview...funny comments...but don't think it was a smart thing to say...

    • I hadn't thought about the variable power steering assist. Presumably, it will always be the same level of assist as you get in an S14. The R32/3/4 are either helliishly heavy (at low speeds) if the solenoid is not powered at all, or hellishly too light (at high speed) if it is powered all the time. I presume that it is PWM controlled on those cars. I hadn't thought about the S cars not having variable assist. ugh. What crappy plebby cars they must be!
    • Hmm yeah that is a good point. It looks like it'll just bolt in with no real issue besides maybe the bushings being different. My other concern was that 2 pin plug that I assume is used in some way to control the rack solenoid depending on the speed signal from the ecu. The DMAX rack doesn't even have that plug though so, don't think it'll matter. Might just order the rack and see how it goes. Will update this when I figure something out
    • I'd say it's a fair bet that the feed and return fluid lines will be in different enough spots that you would need to come up with a way to cut the originals short and adapt with new hard line adaption or braided teflon hoses or somesuch. But really, you have the car, you have the photos of the DMAX rack - you should be able to go out there and see for yourself whether they're in the same or different spots.
    • I've been doing some looking around and honestly was just considering throwing a new rack at it. I saw that the dmax silvia rack bolts up into the 33 with the silvia bushings but not sure if the high pressure lines will sit in the correct spot. I believe other version of the 33 rack are the same/similar to the racks that can be opened up without as much fuss so I assume the dmax rack would fit but any ideas?
    • I've never played with one, but I would expect that you are correct. That slot looks like it is intended to be used to unscrew the end, and the flats on the body would be better than grabbing it around the round bit with a pipe wrench. So, yeah, probably unscrews. You'll probably have to make a tool to drive in that slot.
